Wasn't sure it was going to be accepted by the PBEM crowd to post AI aces without the usual derision so I held off.

I can only speak for myself. Though I only play PBEM now, I played multiple games against the AI, and it was always fun to see how many kills pilots and squadrons could accumulate against the AI's relentless bombing raids. It was one of the most enjoyable aspects of playing the AI.

Here is the Akagi group from my game against Opilot, which is in mid-June 1942. This unit has distinguished itself in several battles, including a "New Guinea Turkey Shoot" in which 30 F4Fs and 50 or so SBDs were downed in one CV battle. In that battle, the group accumulated 18 kills against 0 losses, which was very good for a group that has only 18 planes and had only 9 on CAP that day, with 9 escorting bombers. Unfortunately, the best pilot in the group, who had 10 kills (6 during the New Guinea Turkey Shoot), went MIA on a routine CAP mission: a tragic loss to the empire. The MIA ace is the only pilot that the group has lost since the war began. He was replaced with J. Sasai, as you can see below.

Here are mine as of 4/44. It is hard to keep even these top killers alive. Playing by email using DaBabes. They ubered out the Jack, George, and Frank and I am suffering a lot more losses vs Viberpol. Hellcats are so outclassed that the pilots hardly have a chance to advance on the list.

Now show us yours.

Seriously? Hellcats, who accumulated the best Kill ratio in the Pacific War are totally outclassed? ... I don't know what to say

Don't forget that the IJ players here know how to build better aircraft sooner and attend to their pilot training much more than Japan did in RL.

Oh, I know very well about that bit of mischief - in my PBEM (like most - I assume) my opponent has advanced every important ship and aircraft type by 12 to 8 months... I was facing A6M5 Zekes by 9/42, KI-84's in 1943, etc...

But our F6F Hellcat's still dispatch them very well...and I'm certain P-47's are in his worst dreams nightly

F6F maneuver numbers are weak. Same with corsair's and P-47's. Spitfires are good but short legged....GP

Without trying to sow a great deal of discontent... sigh... I happen to know the games numbers aren't 'cricket'

What does the * mean next to the plane?

Something to the effect that the pilot is currently flying something different than the airframe with which he attained most of the kills he is credited.

Ahh, thanks CB!

Yeah, that combined with superior speed makes a big difference. I find that speed trumps maneuverability though. I can find no fault with my Thunderbolts which still own the sky. No problem with the Lightning either except for the service rating. I am playing DaBabes. In this mod the second generation Hellcat gets a speed boost up to 390 MPH. That might help. But the third generation Corsair drops to below 400 MPH. That can't help.
