For Game Crashes

In case the game won't start or crashes, please be so kind and provide us and/or the Matrix Technical Support with the following information:

1. Locate the error.log at the installation folder \Campaign Series Middle East\logs
2. Briefly describe the problem, attach the error.log file in your post.
3. In order to get comprehensive information about your system specifications, please run DirectX Diagnostic and
proceed as follows.

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file?

1. Click on "START".
2. Click "run".
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK".
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests.
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice.

Windows 10 Users

1.In Windows, select Start + Windows Key
2. Enter dxdiag into the search box on the taskbar
3. Select dxdiag from the results
4. In the tool, select Save All Information for an easily shared format

We do prefer that both, the error.log and DxDiag file(s) be posted as message attachments (.ZIP) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

My Unit Viewer is not working. What can I do?

Make sure the path in settings.txt links to the directory you installed CSME

1. Locate settings.txt in \Campaign Series Middle East\tools\CS_UnitViewer
2. Check if the following points to your installation directory - Middle East=<drive letter>:\<Path where CSME is installed>
3. If you got CSME installed on your D drive, the line would look like: Middle East=D:\Campaign Series Middle East

Windows 10 Support Recommendations

Are you having problems installing CSME 2.00 onto your Windows 10 machine?

Try the following:

1. Uninstall Campaign Series Middle East 1.02
2. Install Campaign Series Middle East 2.00 - We recommend you install the game in C:\Matrix_Games\.. or C:\Games instead of the default C:\Program Files (x86).
3. If it fails to launch, turn off/disable your Anti-Virus Software (problems have been reported with Avast, Webroot Security &
MalwareBytes Anti-virus) and try again.

Are you having problems with scaling on a 4K monitor/TV?

Try the following:

1. Try 1920x1200 resolution
2. Try 3840 on w10 64 bit nvidia with 175% Scaling
3. Try 300% Scaling

Is your Windows 10 performance very slow and the mouse not very responsive?

Try the following:

1. Go to http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/
2. Look for full directory (with older versions, patches...) - http://download.savannah.nongnu.org/releases/wined3d
3. Than look for v1.1.38 / 24-Jun-2013 20:02
4. Download the wined3d.exe
5. Don't run the program! Extract It with 7zip, WinRAR or a similar program
6. Copy ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll into the root folder of your CSME installation

Additionally, start CSME and check if:

Options > Auto Scroll set to OFF
Options > Smooth Scroll set to OFF

How can I activate DirectPlay or DirectDraw on Windows 10?

As DirectPlay and Direct3D/DirectDraw features could be useful to run less recent games and other classics, here are some steps on how to activate them on Windows 10:

Activate DirectPlay:

1. Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time.
2. In the Open box, type Control Panel and click OK.
3. Then, select Programs.
4. Finally, click on Turn Windows Features on or off and turn on the DirectPlay feature in this new window.

Klink, Oberst

There's also the My Serial# under My Pages, at your Member page in Matrix Games site. If you have registered your game, that is.

It's like Jason told, error 486 it's a serial number error.
Or you haven't installed the game using the original game file installer or the issue is related with the lack of admin privileges for running the game.

Sorry to be such a pain here......
Opened a help desk ticket to address the download issue (could not download through the Matrix forum) and the support team sent me a link to the Slitherine site where I was able to successfully download 2.0. However when I attempt to start a game or edit a scenario I get "meengine has stopped working" or the scenario editor has stopped working. This appears to occur on the larger scenarios especially the 8 part Chinese Farm scenarios.
Any thoughts?
Should I spend the additional $50 and order a 2.0 CD?
New W10 machine. This is the only thing I've loaded on the machine.
Thanks

At the immediate point of the error(s), what do the first ~10 lines, also the last ~10 lines, of

logs/engine.log
logs/edit.log
logs/error.log [if it exists]

say?

No need to post the entire log files. Just the heads and the tails will do.

Gary,

I do wonder, what drive/directory did you install the game? Default path or (better in fact) let's say on a non-Windows partition?

Thanks for the help

It looks like your installation is FUBARed. Why would you install the Middle East game into

C:\Matrix Games

This is the Middle East game, one of many games from the publisher Matrix Games.

Wouldn't it make more sense to install to

C:\Matrix Games\Middle East

or perhaps

C:\Games\Matrix Games\Middle East

I suggest you use the Windows Add/Remove a program facility to uninstall the game, then install to a more sensible place.

After that, let's take this up again from there.

Any thoughts?

So (and apart from the question of where you installed the game), you are saying that smaller scenarios load and run fine, it's just the larger scenarios that are causing you problems?

What is the amount of RAM on your system? Would it be fair to say that your new Win10 system is low-end?

Should I spend the additional $50 and order a 2.0 CD?

That will make no difference in your ability to run the game.

Good luck! Hopefully installing to another directory such as C:\Matrix Games\Campaign Series Middle East solves your issues.

Based on your DxDiag post you should have the HW to run the game, easily. Of course, with every setup, Your Mileage May Vary, but let us get to that once you have the install in a new, proper location.

Strange. The problems (meeingine not working, meedit not working) have returned. They appear so far on the Chinese Farm Scenarios 2 thru 8, but Scenario 1 seems fine.

Sorry to hear about your problem resurfacing. I can only confirm all these scenarios work on my install.

We've delivered the 2.01 UPDATE package to Matrix Games, so hopefully it is not too far away, and maybe it would help in these issues you are seeing as well.

Crossroads;
As ever I appreciate your patience and guidance. I may be on to something.
I saved my current download to an external hard drive as I was making extensive changes to the OOB for the 8 part Chinese Farm scenarios. The 8 part series has a single OOB (Chinese.org).
I did a full uninstall on my C Drive and re-downloaded V2.0 to my C Drive C:Matrix Games\Campaign Series Middle East per the previous help you and berto provided. Now every scenario works fine.
I suspect that somehow my changes to the OOB caused scenarios 2 thru 8 to have a problem because of the common OOB. I vaguely remember having an issue with Tillers Campaign series in deleting units in the OOB resulted in scenarios not working.
Anyway, I think I need to be more careful in deleting items in modding the OOB. In the past I would put an "X" in front of the unit rather than deleting in from the OOB as a reminder not to put it on the map.
Not asking you to do anything. Just need to sharpen my skills on creating new OOBs and linking them to scenarios. Thanks again for the help.

I highly recommend becoming familiar with the JSGME tool that is provided in the installation and how it works with modding. I believe it is explained in the manual how to use it. There is also a video that shows you how to turn on and off various mods.

If you do edits to your OOB's, do it as a MOD, then add it when you wish.

No need to have multiple installations of your core game.

Here's a link to an earlier Developer Diary I did for JTCS covering how to mod OoB files, so a different game, but the basics apply here as well.

1. Create the mod directory, 2. Add the OoB files you want to change there, 3. Edit the said files, 4. Activate the mod to see them., 5. Deactivate the mod to go back to stock install.

Unfortunately, the 2.01 UPDATE is not cumulative, so you will need to unistall 1.02, install 2.00 and then use the UPDATE feature to install 2.01
