Five Axis bombers attack Malta and are able to destroy the AA, no hits were scored against the bombers. Paratroopers then land on the Island securing it.

Previous Axis Turn:

A German tactical bomber escorted by German fighters attacks a UK Corps south of Mersa Matruh and is intercepted by UK fighters.
UK fighters took 2 damage, and an unknown amount of damage was done to the German fighters, while the TAC bombers took damage from both the interceptors and ground fire (level 2 AA).
The Corps was unhurt, except for a small amount of morale and readiness damage.

A German army shows up south of Sidi Barani.

A German sub with a pip of experience attacks the Warspite west of Santa Cruz and does 3 damage to the battleship.

Yugoslavia joins the Allies.



Allied Turn
Clear in Western Europe, Mud in Russia.
Clear in Egypt and the Med.

A recon/strike of opportunity mission by Commonwealth tactical bombers finds an Italian HQ. It is followed up with a second tactical bomber strike on the Italian HQ.
German fighters intercept (there are 2 squadrons) and the results are as follows:
UK: FTR 5 dmg, Tac#1 3 dmg, Tac#2 1 dmg
GE: FTR#1 4 dmg, FTR#2 3 dmg
IT: HQ 4 dmg

More disturbing is the results of the reconnaissance. In addition to the two German fighters and the previously spotted German army, there are two German panzer corps, along with the artillary and reconnaissance unit.
There are also a total of four Italian armies as well.

Scout planes from HMS Illustrious find a German sub and a Heavy Cruiser (presumably Deutschland) in and north of the Red Sea loop.
Two air strikes against Deutschland do 7 damage to the heavy cruiser, but also reduce the carrier's air wing by 30%.
Warspite then sinks Deutschland, but takes 2 more damage in doing so, bringing her down to 5 strength.
Three destroyers then jump U35 (which is at str 8) and do 4 damage (and 1 back to 2 destroyers) and force a dive.
The sub that attacked Warspite is ignored.

Lancaster bombers again hit the Mons and Loos mines again bringing them down to values 1 & 5. A few bombers were lost in the raids.

Greenland becomes a US protectorate.

Yugoslavia is conquered with Germany taking a single hit to a medium bomber at Belgrade. A single panzer corps attacking across the river does most of the work and takes no damage, with an infantry corps cleaining up.
The Italians take several undefended towns as well.

Greece signs a defensive pact with the Commonwealth.

Axis forces creep into Egypt finding Mersa Matruh abandoned.

More Axis forces make themselves visible on the Soviet border.

The Axis take the Siwa Oasis, destroying the Desert Reconnaissance unit in the process. The recon unit manages to damage an Italian army without getting hurt, but then a panzer corps brings it down to 1, and a second polishes it off.
An Italian army occupies Mersa Matruh and there is a German army just south of them.

Croatia is formed.

Russia jumps to 50% mobilization.

Previous Axis Turn:

Barbarossa starts.
There is a rather light push through the Baltics and it is (temporarily) stopped by a Soviet Army in Kaunas.
Bialystok and Brest Litvosk are cut off. A Soviet HQ and Mech barely survive this turn, but have no chance at escape.
In the south a corps holding Przemysl survives at half strength but is cut off. Lwow and it's defenders are also taken out, by air and ground forces.* Other axis units push through Bessarabia with no resistance.
A Soviet army in Odessa is bombed twice but no land units move next to the city.

The German fleet attacks the Russian navy, sinking the Soviet CL and doing 4 damage to the BB in port (mostly from a German sub). Some damage was done back to the Germans, 2 to a BB (I think), maybe something to a CC,
4 to a DD and 3 to the sub.

Three German tactical bombers, and I believe three German fighters are in Egypt assisting the land forces. Two UK fighters take 8 damage between them, an unknown amount of damage is done to German air units.
A UK corps in a fort is not only destroyed, but the army (also fortified) behind it is attacked as well and reduced to strength 6.

Germany supports the Iraqi rebels.


* I tried the 'build an ENG' for the Soviets for this game. Don't think I'll do that again, unless maybe Germany allows a higher Mobilization level (i.e. Annexes Lithuania).
I'm now wishing I had invested in AA sooner for the Soviets and had been able to build a few more ground units earlier. Keeping the Vistula/San line (i.e. rejecting the friendship treaty) allows for making the taking of Lwow
(and more importantly the freebie units) to be more complicated. However, to do so you need a few units.



Allied Turn
Clear in Europe and in Russia.
clear in the Med.

The Soviet sub does 2 dmg to the Gneisenau battle cruiser, while taking 1 dmg back. Then when attempting to move away runs into a Z-boat (DD) but still gets the better of the exchange 2 dmg to 1 dmg.

The Soviet fighter and tactical bomber near Jelgava escape north.

The mines at Essen are bombed as are the ones at Briey. There is confirmation of AA upgrades at the Essen and Dortmund mines. Some Lancaster casualties are encountered at Briey (apparently trees are helpful in shooting down high level bombers).

More AA is ordered for El Alamein and the surrounding fortifications.

Previous Axis Turn:
The German sub has the Soviet battleship pinned in port and does another 3 damage to her.
A German destroyer attacks the Soviet sub and both take a point of damage.
German forces reach Jelgava but don't manage to take the town, whittling the defending corps down to a 2 strength.
The Bialystok pocket is cleaned up, with the elite GAR unit in Godno actually damaging an Panzer corps and a Special Forces corps.
German infantry corps reach Wilno and Baranowicze. The army in Kaunas is bypassed, but not cut off.
Odessa is bombed and then taken, the Germans then are stopped Nikolayev by a corps that is itself reduced to half strength. No other resistance is yet met in the Ukraine.

In Egypt things are almost as bad. After a series of furious air battles, the two hexes west of El Alamein are taken, destroying a UK army and corps.* A German mech unit is also part of Rommel's forces.
In addition UK fighters took a total of 6 damage, while an unknown amount was done to German air units.


* I was hoping to make more of a fight of Egypt, but did not get any luck with any Infantry Weapons breakthrough added to the pretty huge extra commitment (2 GE Armies, 1 Panzer, 1 Mech, 2 FTRs, 2 TAC all added to Rommel's
base group and I presume there is at least 1 extra GE HQ, if not 2 as well). We'll see how long I can hold out.



Allied Turn
Clear in Europe and in Russia.
Sandstorm in Egypt*, clear in the Med.

Strategic bombers go back to hitting the Essen mine. The German AA reduces their effectiveness, but isn't as deadly as the trees.

The Italian armor on the line is counter attacked. It takes 4 damage, while the UK AT unit takes 3 and 7th Armor takes 1.


*The weather always seems to bone me and not my opponents.

Previous Axis Turn:
El Alamein is taken but not before dishing out large numbers of counter hits to both Axis ground forces and air units both in the sky and via ground fire. The Italian armor is down to a 2 strength and retreats.
A German armor moves into El Alamein and attacks the 7th Armor to the south (through a fort side even). 7th Armor takes 7 damage while the German panzer is only down to a 5 strength.
Worse there is a hole in the fort line now as the British engineers have not had time to construct a line behind El Alamein. Only a single fort hex on the road to Alexandria.

The German sub sinks the Soviet battleship in Leningrad port, while taking a point of damage itself. *Hasn't anyone ever herd of sub nets?*
German forces approach and probe Riga, the Soviet army holds strong.
Wilno is also probed and only takes a point of damage, but is threatened to be cut off.
Kaunas is again ignored and Stalin contemplates declaring it a 'Hero city'.
Brest Litovsk is cleaned up, and a German corps assault Baranowicze, which takes damage but holds for now.
German forces advance to the Dnepr and cross it at Kremenchuk and take Poltava.
German and Italian bombers hit Kiev and the army stationed there. Only 1 damage is done to the army but the troops are shaken.
AA guns had been distributed throughout the Soviet empire and managed to not only moderately reduce damage taken from the Luftwaffe but have managed to shoot down Axis planes in noticeable, if modest, numbers.



Allied Turn
Clear in Europe and in Russia.
Sandstorm in Egypt*, clear in the Med.

*Once again my air force is grounded on my turn but not on his.
The USA sends tanks to Egypt, upsetting Turkey.

The Indian corps reaches the gates of Baghdad.
An organized pullback is ordered in Egypt, it is threatening to be turned into a route however.

The Loos mines are hit again, then bomber command switches targets and hits the town of Amiens and finds a bit more success (3 dmg, vs. 2 dmg).

HMS Warspite (str 8) engages RM Pola (CA) in one of the Malta ports. Both take 3 damage.
HMS Ark Royal & Illustrious then launch four air raids against Pola and sink her.
Another Italian heavy cruiser is spotted in port and the German paratroopers apear to be on holiday in Malta.

The Soviet sub does 1 damage to Prinz Eugen (GE CA).

The US allows the UK the use of the port in Providence.

Italians form an expeditionary force for use in Russia.

Status: offline 		Turns out I forgot to move a handful of units last turn.
I wasn't feeling that great, but more importantly kept getting interrupted so was cycling through doing a bit and saving the game. Somewhere along the line I forgot to move them. Shame on me.

I'm not sure I'll be able to complete another turn tonight or not, but I did want to take a moment to congratulate my opponent for completely faking me out with his strategy.
I thought for sure that Sea Lion was coming. Then I was late sending additional reinforcements to Egypt, but I suspect I wouldn't have had enough to push the Italians back far enough to make the DAK come in further back. More importantly it made me delay my investment in Infantry weapons 2 by a number of turns. Not that I think that would have stopped what is inevitably going to happen, there are just far too many German units in Egypt to do that, but maybe it would've slowed him down a bit more and/or caused more damage.

I also underestimated my preparedness for Barbarossa. I think I got spoiled with that youtube game I played (even though the Soviets never got involved there or were shown).

Previous Axis Turn:
The fortified hill south of El Alamein is taken, destroying a UK corps. The UK AT unit is attacked and takes 4 damage and forced to retreat.
Both German panzer units are at about half strength and the panzer grenadier currently occupying El Alamein is at 4 strength.

Riga is assaulted, but holds out at a 3 strength.
Kaunas continues to be bypassed as 2 German corps approach Daugavpils.
Minsk is bombed, damaging the army there by 1 and a German army and corps move next to it.
Kiev is heavily bombed, the newly placed AA gun to the east of the city helped but not as much as was hoped. Kiev then falls to German infantry and a panzer grenadier.
An army in Dnepropetrovsk and a corps in Zaporizhia are cut off by two pinching panzer corps.

The German paratroopers in Malta transport and are replaced by an Italian Garrison.

Most of the remaining Italian fleet comes out and engages the two carrier's escort. Warspite (str 5) is sunk after engaging an Italian heavy cruiser (2 dmg?) and battleship (1 dmg?) in the exchange.
An Italian battleship squares off with HMS Malaya (BB), with the Malaya coming out slightly better (5 dmg vs. 6 dmg), disappointing given that the Malaya is at Naval Weapons 1.
HMS Sheffield (CL) took 2 dmg from a sub and did some (1 or 2?) back.


Allied Turn
Clear in Europe and in Russia.
Clear in Egypt, storms in the Med.*

*This time my carriers are grounded, or rather they don't get their search radius as I found a solution to the storms.
HMS Malaya (BB str 5) finds the Italian battleship Andrea Doria (str 4) and reengages her in the storms doing 2 damage while taking 1.
HMS Kent (CA) then sinks the Andrea Doria while taking 1 damage in doing so.
HMS Sheffield (CL str 8) finds an Italian destroyer and does 1 damage to it bringing it to strength 5. (I don't remember if this IT DD attacked me or not).
Next the Polish destroyer finds the Italian sub to the immediate north and hit it for 1 damage, bringing it to strength 5.
HMS Hood (CC) finds RM Trieste (CA, str 7) in the port at Syracuse. Hood takes 1 damage, while Trieste takes 2. Better yet the port is in clear weather as are Sicilian coastal hexes.
HMS Ark Royal cozies up to the nice calm waters of southern Sicily and launches two raids at Trieste with her half strength air wing. Trieste takes 2 damage, and the air wing 1.
HMS Illustrious moves next to Ark Royal and launches her own attacks with her 4 strength air wing.
Illustrious's air wing takes 2 damage and is reduced to a strength of 2 while Trieste takes 2 more damage and is now barely afloat at a strength of 1.
Just as the remaining crew of Trietse breathe a sigh of relief the question arises, "What about that third Battlestar?... I mean carrier."
Arriving from the west HMS Formidable destroys the Trieste and takes 1 damage to her fresh air wing.
HMS Valiant (BB) then goes after the wounded destroyer Sheffield found and does 3 damage, bringing it down to a 2.
HMS Norfolk (CA), also arriving from the west, sinks the destroyer.
The Italian fleet has been reduced to three ships, one of which is a half strength sub.
The Carriers move off the coast to avoid being spotted.

Bomber command hits Calais for 6 damage.

The Commonwealth launch a counterattack at El Alamein against the 4 strength panzer grenadiers.
Artillery only lowers the grenadiers morale and readiness.
A set of tactical bombers reduces them to a strength of 3. In the air combat German fighters, UK fighters and the UK bombers all take 1 damage.
II Corps then attacks the grenadiers and reduces them to a strength of 2.
The lent US Shermans (10th Armor) roll forward and destroy the panzer grenadiers while taking 1 damage themselves. The town is not occupied.
An Italian army is bombed, and this doesn't go quiet as well. German fighters take 1 and the Italian army takes 2, while UK fighters and tac bombers both take 2.

The majority of German fleet is still in the Gulf of Finland pressed up near Leningrad (3 subs, 1 CC, 1 BB & 2 CA).
Riga falls
Kaunas continues to be bypassed and is now cut off.
Daugavpils is nearly cut off and appears that it might be bypassed as well.
The army in Minsk is bombed and then destroyed.
A corps near Kiev is destroyed and the AA gun is pinned and reduced to 5 strength. This includes a German Para drop southeast of Chernigov.
Dnepropetrovsk is heavily bombed and attacked, but holds out for now reduced to 6 strength.
Zaporizhia is bombed (I think) and attacked by a Romanian corps and holds out undamaged, excepting for it's morale and readiness.

In Egypt an Italian army (str 7) moves into El Alamein, while a German Corps (str 7) moves to the south to guard the flank.

Previous Axis Turn:
Another murderous air battle in Egypt occurs over 10th Armor, 9 damage is done to two UK fighter wings and an unknown amount to German planes, but multiple hits were recorded against tactical bombers as well as opposing fighters.
10th Armor then comes under fire from numerous axis ground units. An Italian army takes the brunt of the Sherman's punch, but 10th Armor eventually breaks under the fire of the panzers.
One Panzer unit then moves into the hex and damages the supporting UK artillery (5 dmg).

Elements of the German fleet pull back from around Leningrad. A sub and 2 heavy cruisers are still spotted a little bit west of Narva.
A German corps pushes close to Parnu and a panzer corps reaches the crossroads to Tartu and Pskov.
Kaunas is bombed once and is attacked by a German corps or two. The defenders are still in pretty good shape at 9 strength.
Daugavpils is cut off, and it appears to be the German plan to starve them out.
A heavier attack is made at Polotsk, with the city cut off and the defending army reduced to 4 strength.
A special forces unit reaches Mogilev.
Soviet light tanks in Chernigov are hammered and forced out of the town and retreat (str 3) into the woods to the north west.
The army in Dnepropetrovsk and the nearby corps are cleaned up, with the corps in the woods accounting for itself better than the army did.
A German panzer unit pushes to Rostov and is surprised by the defenders and takes 2 damage.

The Italian battleship attempts to escape and runs into HMS Valiant who sinks her.
Caio Duilio was the last of the Italian battleships (excepting the Roma still under construction) and the Regina Maria is now down to a sub and (I believe) a destroyer.



Allied Turn
Clear in Europe and in Russia.
Clear in Egypt, clear in the Med.

Tactical bomber runs are made against a German HQ spotted east of El Alamein.
The air battles are costly for the commonwealth (5 dmg spread over 2 FTRs and 3 dmg to both bombers, vs. 3 dmg to a GE FTR), but the HQ suffers 4 damage. It's hoped that this will slow the advance some.
A desperate counter attack is made against the forward panzer corps. It is reduced to strength 4 (6 damage), while a UK corps, AT and 7th Armor all take 3 damage.*

Egyptian Nationalists rise up and manage to damage both UK HQs and the AT, maybe another unit or two. This is just salt in the wounds.

Finland joins the Axis.

A U boat raids the Iraq convoy line for 20 MPP


*Not sure if this was terribly wise, but I didn't want a full strength panzer to get a prepared attack bonus, and thought to get a decent hit with the AT; Or maybe I'm just getting overly frustrated.

**I didn't get any luck with important breakthroughs (AA or Infantry Weapons) that would've gone a long way to helping defend Malta (AA lvl 2) and Egypt (INF Weapons 2) and offset my mistakes and getting fooled.
**The same can be said for Russia, though in that case it is a lack of units. Somewhat exacerbated by not wanting to give up highly defensive points when they were strategically compromised.
**I'm still learning with Russia. Against Korut I was whacked by quality, now I'm getting whacked by quantity.

Axis air power continues to hammer away in Egypt, and other units take up the slack for the wounded panzers which retreat.
The UK corps in front of Alexandria is destroyed as is the AT unit.
The cut off, low morale and low supply New Zealanders at the hinge of Quattro depression manage to hold on fighting off some German infantry and a recon unit.

The German navy attempts to shore bombard the armored train on the Finnish border but fails to do any damage.
Kaunas is heavily bombed and then eventually taken after attacks by six infantry corps.
Daugavpils is surrounded by three German corps.
The badly damaged army in Polotsk is destroyed and the town is taken.
German forces move up to Parnu, Pskov, Ostrov and Vitebsk. Additionally they are 1 hex away from Tartu.
The badly damaged Soviet BT-7s (light tanks) near Gomel are destroyed.
Two German corps close within 1 hex of Bryansk.
The infantry corps in Kharkov comes under heavy air attack, followed up by a panzer grenadier and mixed Italian and Romanian forces, but manages to barely hold out at a 2 strength.
The German panzer near Rostov pulls back to Taganrog.

Two Soviet partisan units form in the woods east of the Pripyat marshes. One in the north and one in the south.

The US is alarmed at Germany's success in Egypt (but near minimum gain (8% on a range of 7 - 14%) for this event + random rolls for Allied & Axis end of turn).



Allied Turn
Mud in Western Europe, Clear in the British Isles and in Russia.

The Commonwealth manage an orderly withdraw, moving an Egyptian Gar unit into Alexandria for rear guard duty.
The Loos mines in France are targeted again by British Lancaster bombers and take 5 damage.

A Soviet elite garrison transports into Hanko Finland, and attacks a Finnish garrison outside of Turku, doing 1 damage to it.
The Soviet armored train does a point of damage to the Finnish army southwest of Laappeenranta.
The Finnish army is then bombed.
Finnish fighters take 3 damage, Soviet fighters take 2, Soviet bombers take 1 damage as does the Finnish army.
The Russian fighter then flies a recon mission and engages the Finnish fighters once again coming out ahead 1 damage taken to 2 given.
A Russian corps then moves into Finland along the southern coast and does 2 damage to a garrison, while taking 1 back.
Soviet light tanks then attack the army and exchange 1 damage each, while forcing the 2 strength army to retreat.*
A Russian corps moves to cut Petsamo off, and attacks it only to remove a level fortification. It's noted that the garrison there is fully upgraded.


*Really wishing I had an army (or two!) up here in Finland to really put them on the ropes. Of course I wish I had them elsewhere too.

Been having some issues with eye strain and can't spend much additional time looking at computer screens in the evening to do my turn and these reports.
I have a eye doctor appointment tomorrow and I will be getting a new prescription for my progressive lense glasses. Hopefully when they come in it will help.

Status: offline 		Just read a bit here... I really think I should start some strategic bombing in the West pretty soon. (in my game vs Amadeus)

There are plenty of mines waiting to be bombed and reducing them to 0 means 16 or even 20 MPPs less every turn. Sure, German fighters will stay there to defend the mines but I guess it is still worth the effort.

Status: offline 		In this game Germany isn't protecting them with fighter(s). All the mines are just at level 1 AA. He had a fighter early, but then moved it away and, so far, seems to just be accepting the lost mpp.

I'm doing more damage on the Norway convoy with less risk. On the occasions when the strat bombers take a single hit the mpp loss is nearly equal for both sides.

If you're bombing a mine from 10 to 0, the loss is worth 20 + 18 + 16 + 14 + 12 + 10 + 8 + 6 + 4 + 2 = 110 MPP, before the mine has fully recovered.
That`s worth much more than 1 point of reinforcement. It`s also training bomber + HQ.

In my game my bomber was doing 6 damage to a mine over 2 strikes. That went 4 or 5 damage when he put lvl 1 AA on the mine.

FYI, 6 damage to a mine(s) was reported as 24 points of MPP damage.

Previous Axis Turn:
Daugavpils is bombed twice and attacked by multiple German corps, the cut off fortress holds out at strength 6.
A low supply German corps and panzer attack the Baltic towns of Parnu and Tartu and bounce.
A German army attacks a corps in Vitebsk and does 2 damage to it.
A partisan takes 2 damage from a German corps and retreats further into the woods, the other partisan is destroyed by a panzer grenadier.
Rostov is bombed and attacked by 2 low supply panzers and holds out loosing 3 entrenchment and morale only.
A Finnish corps attacks a Soviet corps on the Gulf of Finland coast and both take a point of damage. Elements of the Kriegsmarine attempt to shell the Soviet corps to little affect (perhaps some morale/readiness damage).
The Finnish ports of Helsinki and Hanko are then guarded and blockaded respectively.

Germany takes out the Egyptian garrison in Alexandria and the cut off out of supply New Zealander corps. The advance creeps forward into Alexandria.



Allied Turn
Mud in Western Europe and the Ukraine, Clear in the British Isles and in Russia.
Clear in Egypt, clear in the Med.

The Loos and Mons mines are bombed for a total of 6 damage (3 each).

A Finnish corps is bombed. Finnish fighters, Soviet fighters, Soviet tactical bomber and the Finnish corps all take 1 damage.
The Soviet armored train then attacks the same corps for 2 damage.
Russian light tanks then move next to that same corps, cutting off Lappeenranta in the process, and do 2 more damage bringing it down to a strength of 4.
The Soviet corps cutting of Petsamo attacks the town and takes a point of damage for the effort.

Other German units make slow advances. A German army shows up next to Rostov and a line of German and Hungarian infantry are spotted near Bryansk and Orel.

An Egyptian garrison absorbs a panzer attack across the Nile and survives to retreat.
The Polish corps north of Cairo takes a point of damage.
German and Italian forces creep forward in Egypt.

Previous Axis Turn:
Rain in Ukraine, Clear in Russia
German bombers sortie in Egypt. They are intercepted by UK fighters, and damage is exchanged between them and the escorts but they fail to hurt any of the bombers. In one case the bomber damaged the interceptor.
Low morale seems to be taking a toll on the Commonwealth pilots. Ground fire on the other hand is damaging the bombers at least.
Axis ground forces then attack north of Cairo and eliminate the other Egyptian garrison as well as the Polish corps. A few counter hits are scored on the attacking units, but nothing significant.
They continue to advance and the town south of Cairo is taken as well.

The armored train takes a point of damage and the light tanks take 2.
A second German corps moves next to Tartu and threatens to move around it.
Pskov is attacked and the corps guarding it is reduced to 2 strength.
Vitebsk and Orsha are attacked. Orsha is bombed and an elite (str 11) Soviet fighter intercepts and only takes 1 damage. Missed if the bomber got hit by both fighter and ground fire or just one.
Both towns hold out the corps are reduced to strength 8 and strength 6.
Bryansk is attacked and the army there is reduced to strength 6.
Rostov comes under assault from 2 panzers and an army, and manages to hold out reduced to strength 6. A third panzer is also in the vicinity.

A sub attempts to leave port at St. Nazaire and is surprised by a Motor Torpedo boat. The sub takes 5 damage while the Torpedo boat takes only 1.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Artic, Mud in Finland. Clear in Western Europe and the Ukraine. Rain in Russia.
The Loos and Mons mines are bombed again for 3 damage each.
Monty and 7th Armor evacuate out the port of Suez into the Red Sea.

Soviet light tanks stationed in a fort between Orsha and Vitebsk attack a German corps. Both units take 2 damage.
The 2 strength corps rails out of Pskov while the corps on the road next to it moves in. Reinforcements are then mustard in the emptied forest hex to protect the flank.
On the Finnish front, the Soviet army and armored train pull back a hex.
Light tanks attack the Finnish army, both take 1 damage, brining them down to 7 and 4 respectively.

Large shipments of rifles, machine guns and additional basic equipment start arriving (i.e. INF Weapons 2 upgrades are happening).


Partisans interrupt supply in the same 3 towns as last turn.

Siberians arrive.

Pearl Harbor, and USA prepares for war.

Status: offline 		Going off the report, Germany appears to be making 680 to 690 MPP/turn while Italy is little bit over 100 MPP/turn.

Spain balked and won't be joining the Axis through normal diplomacy baring either a) Two 1% chance successes; or b) A 1% chance with a 10% (2nd roll) chance for an enhanced success.

On the other hand, Germany is way farther into Russia than historical at this time and has the unit counts not to be spread too thin.

The Soviet light tanks in Finland are attacked again, including from the cut off Finnish corps in Lappeenranta. The Lappeenranta corps and the light tanks both take 1 damage. Other attacks don't do damage to either side.
The weather is not bad enough to prevent the Luftwaffe and elements of the Regina Aeornautica from flying and the do so throughout Russia. Minor hits on fighters are scored by Soviet fighters, and against the bombers by ground fire.
The corps in Tartu is weakened to 8.
Pskov falls to a heavy German attack.
Vitebsk holds out while Orsha falls.
Bryansk falls.
Rostov falls after an immense German commitment.

An Egyptian garrison defending the Nile is destroyed. The Palestinian garrison in Port Said is weakened to 3.
The Suez canal and the Suez port are taken.
Cairo comes under heavy air and ground attack. Commonwealth fighters do what they can but morale is low and they almost assuredly take more damage than the dish out.
The Army in Cairo fairs somewhat better dishing out hits to both bombers and ground attackers, but cannot withstand the onslaught of so many units.
The Sinai peninsula is defended by a UK corps and engineers both in recently constructed forts behind the Canal and in front of El Arish.

Germany takes control of Egypt, and Italian morale improves (back to 100%) while the UK morale falls (to 76%)

Franco is impressed with German gains (+6%), but Nazi diplomats fail to convince him join their side.

The USA declares war on Germany.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Artic. Mud in Finland. Mud in Russia. Frozen in Western Europe and the Ukraine.

Now at war, the USA's first action is to unleash a torrent of... diplomats. They arrive in Spain with enough crates of (proverbial) carrots that even Bugs Bunny would be satisfied.
Additionally, in hushed tones but where Spanish embassy workers can overhear there is talk about the 1927 Yankees bats if Franco doesn't care for the Bugs Bunny package.*

Maritime bombers attack the sub in St. Nazaire and do 2 points of damage over 2 strikes, bringing the sub down to a strength of 4.

Bomber command targets the Mons mines in Belgium and the Briey mines in France, they take 3 damage each.

The defenders around Vitebsk pull back.
The Soviet Armored train does 2 damage to the Finnish corps on the coast.
The Finnish corps in Lappeenranta, now at supply 2, is then attacked. A Russian Infantry corps removes a level of entrenchment, but also provides the corps a pip of experience.
It is then bombed, with 1 damage done to Finnish fighters, Soviet fighters and Soviet bombers and nothing (other than a small morale hit) to the Finnish corps.
Soviet level 2 heavy tanks then attack and manage to do 2 damage, bringing the cut off Finnish corps down to a 5 strength.

The USA begins to supply shipments to the USSR through Persia.


* The US is only allowed to invest 2 chits in Spain bringing Allied chances to a maximum of 29%. That allows the Axis a 1%/turn chance of getting a hit. It will take 2 Axis normal hits or one large hit to get Spain via normal diplomacy now.

Previous Axis Turn:
Snow in Ukraine. Snow in Russia. Frozen in Finland. Clear in Egypt.

The strength 3 garrison in Port Said is bombed and then taken out by ground forces.
The Engineers in the southern portion of the canal forts comes under attack from the combined axis forces. They make a good accounting for themselves, as do the beat up fighter units attempting to protect them.
In the end they are shattered unable to withstand the onslaught of so many units*
The German recon unit manages to drive through the gap and hit a damaged fighter squadron that fails to retreat/rebase. The fighters are then finished off by German fighters.**

Snow doesn't stop the Germans as they push south of Rostov and eliminate the remnants of the defenders (an Army and a Corps).
German forces are arranged south and west of Orel.
They also start closing in on Smolensk.
Tartu is attacked and the defending corps takes 2 damage.
German and Italian forces advance a hex towards Luga along the roads, a Soviet corps takes a point of damage in the advance.
The Finns launch ineffectual attacks.

The Germans construct the Atlantic Wall

Soviet Winter strikes.


* I really think something should be done about multiple attackers using the same hexside to attack through. I know the Allies (Russia) can do the same once they get to go on the offensive...
* IF they get to go on the offensive, but I'm really struggling with the believability of it.

** I also believe that fighters that fly escort missions shouldn't also get to fly a strike mission on the same turn.

Previous Axis Turn:

Soviet winter, and it's casualties don't stop German attacks, they don't gain much ground but they manage to do more damage to the Russians than they take.
The Finns bounce off the Soviets and provide the light tank unit a pip of experience.
The Lappeenranta corps is reinforced from strength 3 to 4.
The light tanks west of Smolensk don't fair as well and are reduced to 6 strength.
Orel is attacked, the defenders don't take much damage but are in danger of being surrounded.
The Germans spy a Soviet tank formation west of Morozovsk and go all out to kill it. Wave after wave (I think 5 or 6) unescorted bombers, are sent after the tanks only the first squadron was intercepted by Russian fighters.
A German Army also attacks the tanks, and they barely survive at strength 1.

In Egypt the Commonwealth corps and desert artillery unit fair better than expected and both survive at 3 strength.
I believe the German recon moved into Gaza and probably sees O'Conner's HQ just outside of Aqaba.*


* I should've probably checked it's position earlier to make sure it could reach the port. On the other hand I wasn't expecting the fortified line to get blown through in a single turn.

Lappeenranta is attacked again, despite the defending corps dire situation (strength 4, supply 1, morale 4%) it survives as the Soviet Army can't do any damage and the tanks do only 3 (lt. tanks 1, Hvy tanks 2).*
With nowhere else capable of attacking the Soviets address their lines.**


* This is just really sad how ineffective the Soviets are. Both tanks (light & heavy) are at level 2 as is the Army, and all are attached to an HQ.
** It would be nicer if the Soviets could actually use the Siberians against the Germans on the turn the Germans take the Soviet winter hit. Right now it's not really possible to do that.

*I lost my notes (notebook/txt file) halfway through my turn. I'll recreate the highlights, without the color commentary.


Previous Axis Turn:
Mud in Russia, Rain in the Ukraine

The Finnish do 2 damage to the Soviet Armored Train.
The Finnish Corps in Lappeenranta apparently surrendered at the end of the turn.
Germany takes Tartu with the use of 2 Panzer Corps.
The Corps in Parnu holds out at strength 7. The Germans shelled the city with a Rail Gun.
The Light Tanks west of Smolensk are forced to retreat then shattered by air power. Soviet fighters do reasonably well (take 3 damage), with hits to both German fighters and Italian bombers. Bomber units take hits from AA/Ground fire.
A Corps, also west of Smolensk, takes 7 damage and retreats to south of the city.

The Commonwealth Corps and Desert Artillery hold out better than expected, absorbing more attacks and doing more damage back than expected but in the end are destroyed.
O'Conner's HQ is attacked by a German Recon, a Corps and 1 or 2 Tactical bombers and survives at strength 1.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Artic. Mud in Finland. Rain in Russia. Clear in Western Europe and the Ukraine. Clear in the British Isles. Sandstorm in Egypt.

O'Conner flees Aqaba by transport.
A UK Destroyer (lvl 2) finds a sub (lvl 2, exp 2) on the Iraq convoy line near Santa Cruz. Sub takes 2 damage, Destroyer takes 3.
Canadian Maritime Bombers sink a half strength sub in St. Nazaire with 2 attacks. St Nazaire has been reduced to a value of 1 due to Operation Chariot, perhaps reducing it's defensive value and allowing the bombers to do more.
St. Nazaire still belongs to Germany, so Operation Chariot did not knock out it out as a deployment center for subs.
Strategic bombing of Briey mines is intercepted by a German fighter in Frankfurt. Along the way an AA unit in Brussels is spotted.
Over 2 strikes the GE FTR takes 6 dmg (4 on 1st strike including 1 from bombers, 2 on 2nd strike), UK FTR takes 2 dmg (1 on each strike), and 6 damage was done to the mines.

2 Soviet Corps reduce the Petsamo Garrison to 2 strength. The Garrison is at 0 supply and the port is blockaded by a UK light cruiser.
Soviet Light Tanks and an Army do 3 damage to a Finnish Corps while the Light Tanks take 1 back. The 5 strength Finnish Corps retreats.
Parnu is abandoned.

Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Artic. Mud(?) in Finland. Mud or clear in Russia. Clear in the Ukraine.

Finnish Army attacks a Soviet Army, both take 2 damage.
A rear guard Soviet corps in the woods north of Tartu is destroyed.
A corps in Talinn is bombed but only takes morale damage.
The Army in Luga is probed by an attack from a German corps that does no damage to either side (At full entrenchment and with HQ support).
Smolensk falls through the use of heavy air power and numerous attacks.
Morozovsk falls through another use of mass air power and Panzers, a Siberian Corps at 11 str on the road behind the city is brought to 2 strength and retreats east.

The sub near Santa Cruz mangles the Destroyer engaged with her for 5 damage while taking only 2 back. It then gets surprised by another fresh UK destroyer and gets the best of that encounter too doing 2 damage while taking only 1.
Another sub (str 8, lvl 2) tries to slip out of the Spanish port of Vigo and does not fair as well. She is surprised by both a UK and Polish Destroyer takes 5 damage and does only 1.
This sub had been spotted by a CV passing nearby quite a few turns ago and had been quarantine since then.

German Maritime bombers finally show up to defend the Norwegian convoy line. They do 2 damage and force a dive on the UK's 13 strength elite sub.

Palestine and Transjordan fall.


* The Soviets chances of withstanding the Germans are shrinking. Nothing can be done to stop their slow steamrolling any hex they want with massed air power and better quality units.
* Perhaps if I had gotten lucky and got a Tech Breakthrough for Infantry Weapons 1 or 2 (and thus been closer to level 3); And if I had invested the 2nd Chit in AA sooner (say instead of building the 2nd ENG) and/or gotten
* a Tech breakthrough with AA it might've slowed them enough. There is still a ways for him to go, but time is on his side and I don't have enough fighters much less quality fighters to challenge him and the units are too weak
* to stand up to waves of attacks after getting softened up by whatever means (Air, Rocket Artillery, Rail Gun, or even just INF Corps knocking off entrenchment while only occasionally taking a nick of damage for the effort).
* Sure some of the tougher cities with Armies in them cause some hits to occasional Panzers or bombers but it isn't enough. Then the Panzers go and hide behind the Infantry to keep them from being exposed.


Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Mud in Finland. Clear in Russia. Clear in Western Europe and the Ukraine. Clear in the British Isles.

The crippled (str 2) UK destroyer finds her nemesis, U-30 (str 5, 2 exp).
U-35, near Vigo, dives from the first destroyer, is found then takes 2 damage from the other destroyer while doing 1 back. The sub is at 1 strength.
U-30 is then set upon by 2 fresh destroyers, and the strength 8 destroyer. Fails to dive and is sunk doing only 1 damage back to the 8 strength destroyer.

The Loos mines are bombed and fortunate for the bombers the German AA has apparently stayed in Brussels, or moved somewhere else. The AA at the mines have been improved to level 2.
The Loos mines are bombed a second time and brought to 0 value (5 damage overall).

The Soviets take Petsamo in Northern Finland and then grab nearby Kirkenes in Norway.
A Soviet Army and Light Tanks destroy a Finnish Garrison, the Light Tanks take a point of damage in the exchange.
The Armored Train does 1 damage to a Finnish Corps on the coast.

A Russian Corps sneaks out of the Crimea and takes the mines at Melitopol.
Another Soviet Corps sweeps through open territory to the west of the concentrated Axis forces west of Rostov and approaches the outskirts of Stalino.

Allied diplomatic success with Greece moves them towards the Allies +13%
