The Kongo's don't disappoint, and it was a good thing I didn't get greedy and bombard with destroyers because the bombardment force tangled with the SAG destroyer group sans Mugford and Raleigh again, plus a new destroyer group.

The bold plan...the belly of the beast...the home of the bomber scourge! Severe storms envelop and cover the Cruiser force, for now.

Iboat reports, a little dated, have the Allied CVs and BB on the West Coast...but we could easily blunder into some battleships or worse here.

Use waypoints to get rid of that extra hex movement.

Use the F6 hot key to turn on hex side terrain - maybe the base cannot be reached from the NW side of the island?

Looks like Port Blair - you can only approach that base from one side of the island.

Daylight arrives, and the bombarding six heavy cruisers haven't made their night bombardment schedule, but there is a hint of smoke to the north, but Task Force 8 gets down to some serious destruction when they launch the Long Lances at unsuspecting merchant ships!

Leaving port, survivors clinging to flotsam and jetsam in the cold waters, Task Force 8 looks to make a retreat from the very large Allied runways that are fully operational. Uh-oh!

The bombardment isn't as effective as hoped, but perhaps a battleship can correct that tonight! The KB pilots are peerless, and the Nicks lost fighting beasts at night.

A battelship and the cruiser SAG bombard Umnak again, everyone escapes the KB moves SW and blunders into a sub that misses. Interesting that the sub was there. No other naval skirmish or aerial escapades to speak about.

Put a little hurt on the B17Es, didn't really destroy and B24 though,...more fun and games over the next two days coming up.

I personally like them. I had one squadron at 5k to protect against low flying AB or TB, and the other group at 20k with the rest of the fighters.

They flew, lost one, and as importantly give you just a bit of numbers...and they can easily shoot down SBDs if the fighters clear the way first.

I will look at the squardrons numbers when I get a chance later today.

I am not sure if they might not fly if the weather is nasty.

But then lo, like a whispered haiku, out of the storms comes the Allies greatest fear...

Yamato!

Kept hidden, patrolling into and out of Builder Island every night, waiting for her chance, and like the wolf she is...she springs.

First thru the destroyer squadron... and then thru a damaged CLAA force...using up precious main gun ammo...

Illuminated briefly by lightning strikes in the harsh seas, the Yamato is more often illuminated in blinding bursts from her main batteries...the Prince of Wales is her target and she relies upon her destroyers weaving, firing, to protect her from enemy destroyers.

and she doesn't disappoint!

Prince of Wales is done for, foundering, sinking as she steams in a lazy slow circle as her steering is gone...

Rejoice! But alas, the Repulse sneaks away in the storm...
