Game #77 [WIN] 1939 ElvisJJonesRambo (ThunderLizard2 = Axis) ---> ELO[WIN] The Turkey Grind. 80% of combat was in the Middle East. Barely turned the tide.

ElvisJJonesRambo resigns games to kidegan, Marcinos1985, taffjones, & Thunderlizard11.

1) Played too many games, have reached terminal velocity.
2) Cookie Cutter has scripted the game. You have no choice but to follow specific methods to win. Makes the majority of Map, Units, etc. obsolete. Cannot handle the "Italian Morale Strategy", regardless of which side I play.
3) Game needs a point system or something.
4) Without a true Reload protection system, don't like competitive games. I make bad moves all the time, one significant bad turn, I've lost the game. I don't want to reload or should just play with reloads. Some of the turns I've seen, make me feel like I'm on an online casino/poker game.
5) Used to enjoy the Pacific Theater, but that's obsolete (see #2)

Need a new drug, any ideas? Thinking about playing more Face 2 Face, Advanced Squad Leader.

Don't be gone too long. PBEM won't be the same.

Check out Shadow Empire. New 4X and pretty interesting so far. Haven't done any PBEMs so don't know how good that is.

Also, check out Order of Battle:WW2 - lots of great WW2 content and a small PBEM community as well.

C19 Comeback Special. Locked down and returned:

Game #78 [WIN] 1939 ElvisJJonesRambo (ThunderLizard2 = Axis) ---> ELO[WIN] Another mega grind against skilled player. TL2 used Diplo for Turkey/Spain/Sweden, decided to ignore & spend on Units/Tech. TL2 had Tanks-5/Jets-5, but had to be less in overall units. Russians barely hung on, after losing Urals & his South/East sweep move. Japan got x3 nuked and surrendered first, in December 1945. Germany had Super Jets + Super Tanks which were the last to lay down their swords at the Rhine. Would have taken me to Summer 1946 to get Berlin. What a grind of a win. Close game.

Game #79 [LOSS] 1939 ElvisJJonesRambo (JM74 = Axis) ---> ELO[LOSS] Held Paris until March 1942. Stupidly, I continued to fight out on Brest. Was able to hold Brest and other port until Yanks showed. Was buying all the time I could for Russia. Germans were filling bodybags full of Americans, Canadian & Brits. The Indians sacrificed in France & Egypt. Then came Japs. I was so focused on France, that Jap overran China, then India. Japs owned have the board. The Reds attacked, attacked, and attacked, with the huge MMPs, but took mega death at Warsaw. Thought I had the game fighting near Warsaw in 1943. Nazis and Italians had few units, and I had air superiority in England. But I spent nothing in Naval. Nazis had experienced units. I had nothing for ground wars. Even had Tank tech advantage in Russia. No balance. Surrendered. There's no short cuts to victory.

Game #80 [WIN] 1939 ElvisJJonesRambo (JM74 = Allies) ---> ELO[WIN] He split our mirrored set. With Axis winning both games, which seems to be rare. Was able to snag port in England with paratroops and never looked back. Russia surrendered in September 1944.

Game #80 [LOSS] 1939 ElvisJJonesRambo (Marcinos1985= Allies) ---> ELO[LOSS] Germans stalled in Norway/Africa/Russia. Got horrible weather in Russia. Rain and Mud. Standard attack, standard defense. Surrendered in June 1942, Germans already being pushed back. Weather is everything who punches first. Luftwaffen took huge Winter damage.

Norway/Africa soaking German MMPs each turn. Germany already broke in 1942.

Japs, bogged in China, the rest, doesn't matter when no momentum in Russia 1942.

Game #81 [LOSS] 1939 ElvisJJonesRambo (TAIFUN = Allies) ---> ELO[LOSS]

Got overextended in Egypt, caused for a lame Barby. Russians held positions, Germans were taking on everyone. The Greeks caused me to resign, after they joined and took Bulgaria. Japs vs Yanks was an exciting battle. Since Germany was bogged down with no momentum, had no choice but to mix it up. He wiped most my carriers, but I took some capital ships with me. Taifun had Royal Navy juiced up + RN Carriers in Pacific.

Game #40 [WIN] 1939 Allied (amandkm = Axis) ---> Germans, were on schedule. His Japanese play, was awful. Gave him 1942 Payback Pearl Harbor as a treat

Game #65 [LOSS] Allies (Cpuncher=Axis) ---> My worst Paris defeat ever. Game was over before it started. Poles turn #1, plus "Operand Opening" on clear weather while I was buying French units and British Tech
Game #66 [LOSS] Axis (Cpuncher=Allied) ---> Tried tricky Paratroop Port grab SeaLion move. Major problem, all Allied ships around England, bad strategy.

Game #68 [LOSS] Axis (Marcinos1985=Allies) ---> I took England, he took Germany

I have to say, this actually made me chuckle a bit this morning. Well done and especially so as I too remember those early days, and names, quite well. And of course the infamous SC1 Christmas riot back when internet forums were pretty new and decorum was still being figured out.

We are now talking almost 20 years ago... that's a long trip down Strategic Command memory lane

I would like to know more about this so called christmas riot too. Funny i just played a round of SC1 a few dayes ago. But i never was active in PBEM, since i was too young back then and had no internet. Got the game arround 2005 on Christmas i believe.

Message for Elvis: I have been playing your records and i am a big fan. Wanna do a little jam-session on WaW? Elo or not Axis or Allies.

Christmas Riot = a lot of squabbling, smack talk, accusations of members representing someone other than themselves.

Kuniworth was at the center of it and the consensus was he was actually Lucky Zebra.

And just to do justice for Desert Dave(RIP) ie. he was Immer Etwas.

That would be interesting to know the end date of each game. It seems for me that as soon as a strategy derails, one of the two players will quit.

Just depends.

I actually started a thread about "surrender" and when. Can always agree before starting if you want a minimum date to play through whether winning/losing.

Would you like to play a PBEM with me? Preferably with you as Axis, as I'm currently playing against the Allies in another PBEM. But 'no quitting'. Not to the point of one side is mopping up the opposition without sweat, but at least lets have a common agreement and probably not before 44.

I have no doubt you'll win, given your experience. But I'm interested to see how I'll lose. And gain experience from this loss. People quit too hastily and that's not in victory you learn the most, but in defeat …

If you do start a match, I hope you consider developing an AAR. I'm always impressed by EJR's creative play and with both of your great sense of humor, I think an AAR of your match would be an entertaining and informative read.

@Pocus --- Hello, I've got full queue of current games going since the Holidays, so I'd better not start any new. I always overload myself, because I lack patience, when I sit down to play and don't have any turns to play, I'll find whoever is online and start more. I'm a rather hyper person, drinking 4 pots of coffee a day, watching stock market, betting sports, movies, family, music, and of course friends/family. I have surrendered games early when I probably shouldn't have. Against top players, once you're down, it's like being in Chess, down a 2 major pieces. The momentum is critical. I've never read the manual or rules, I'm not into that. Rather live & learn. Opponents will teach with a good ass kicking too. Recently, Taifun ambushed the Japs with the Brits because I delayed Pearl Harbor to Feb 1942. Sucked, was gonna be a good game. But losing the 3-transports for DEI, toast.

@Lonerunner --- Yes, I've played a ton of games. Due to C19, I decided to overdose on games, keep my brain outta the world. I had pretty much quit video/computer games years ago. Played alot of golf, coached some soccer & basketball. Wait, I do play some Advanced Squad Leader with a buddy, if you are familiar with that old hex board classic.

Far as strategies, since I've played so many games, I do mix up my buys. The Japanese Force Pool & Tech is the most interesting. I'm certainly NOT one of the top players. HamburgerMeat, Cpuncher, Marchinos1985 and couple more have kicked my ass. They have scripted moves, know every hex, combat chart, & don't let off the gas. My game goes into La-La land, I lose focus on going for the win. Looking at my record, I've played tons of games against ThundarLizard2, we have had some fun, long games. Our skillset is about the same, think our record is 50/50. This game is like Chess, Poker, or Golf. If you play with better players, you will get better. If I play against rookied, I get lazy.

Oh yes, I've invested many wonderful weekends with a group of fellow grognards playing Advanced Squad Leader, drinking beer, eating pizza, and actually finishing a game or two. OMG, I could have earned a law degree interpreting and arguing reams of rules, rule interpretations, rule updates, and house rules. Ahh, those were the days.

Then we graduated to War in the East marathons. Not the computer game. The massive board game, with fragile stacks of counters, that occupied an entire living room for weeks. Before I was married of course.

Sometime when you got an opening, let's try a WaW match.

The game has staying power, very social setting, but we both play to win. Of course, need to be a lawyer and have house rules on Routing, Overruns, by-pass movment, line of sight. In doubt, always roll low :)
