This is all that remains in RADM Marushige’s CA Div 1 task force!
DD Oboro must have plucked him from the water after all 3x CA were sunk.
Two of the escorting 9x Fubuki II were sunk.
Five are heavily damaged near Chittagong. One will disband at Chittagong to try and put out moderate fires while the other four will disband at Akyab to try and put out <5 size fires each.
DD Oboro and DD Ushio have moved the furthest from the disaster area but are out of all but AA ammunition.
They will regroup at Rangoon along with the survivors of CL Div 2 to try and cover a general withdrawal of IJN assets from the Bay of Bengal, and drop off RADM Marushige to prepare for the Board of Inquiry.

I can’t remember why I set these Bettys to bombs and not torpedoes, but they still did some good damage with 250kg bombs penetrating.
I think I'd set them back to Naval Search for a turn in case the Allies setup a CAP trap at Calcutta. The Betties flew from Chittagong.

Then the Nells came in from Dacca with torpedoes.
If these CAs can be sunk that will go some way to reducing the debacle of a few days ago, but it is still a trade that the Allies can better afford than the IJN.

55th Div hasn’t reformed yet but the 3x Infantry Regts are moving to Benares-Allahabad.
56th Div has arrived at Gorakhpur by train so will take 3 days to get back into combat mode.

51st and 54th Divs are recovering well at Tezpur and 53rd Div is also close to being fully fit again at Rangpur.
These three Divs will soon move towards Patna with 1st Tank Div, while 55th and 56th Divs will move towards Cawnpore-Lucknow.

If Cawnpore and Lucknow can be captured that will be the limit of the IJA advance in that direction to avoid triggering emergency reinforcements.

1st Sentai pilots are very impressed with their shiny new Ki-84a.
2 planes were ops losses with 3 more damaged and under repair.
The 4 under maintenance are still repairing from the initial issue and should be ready to fly tomorrow.
More good news, no 1st Sentai pilots were KIA or WIA, although a few of them are showing signs of fatigue.

About 4 Franks are being built per day with factories repairing on the way to 6/day, so it will take 7-10 days before 11th Sentai can upgrade to them too.
I'm thinking about throwing some more supply at Frank-A to get production up to 8/day by the end of August.

Based on increasing Allied ship movements being spotted between Noumea and Gaudalcanal recently, a KB operation has been ordered.

TF3 (T/VADM Yamaguchi) is in the green bordered hex.
The usual 9x DD Shiratsuyu escort are upgrading in Japan so the DD escorts now are 1x Akitsuki and 6x Kagero.
KB will move to the red circle with strikes set to range 7 for tomorrow, then the plan is to move to the yellow circle with strikes still set to range 7 for the day after.

That range will maximise Jill/Judy strike packages with A6M5c escorts, and should avoid running into the main force of 108 fighter CAP spotted at Lunga, although some are set to ranged or area CAP.
The main target is the CL/DD/xAP task force that arrived at Lunga today, so the hope is that it takes a day to load or unload then head back towards Noumea the day after.

It would be ideal if KB can hide under a thunderstorm in the red circle then pop up the day after as a surprise.

Unfortunately the first combat report for the night phase shows what looks like the main target CL/DD/xAP task force already moving south, so it must have done a quick "dump and run".
Another task force is spotted within KB strike range though, raising hopes for a morning strike.

No joy on maintaining surprise, with KB showing 9/9 detection.
Disappointing that no strike was launched against the DD spotted here, actually a DMS based on Judy search aircraft reports including a bomb hit.
Also from the sub contact, the CL/DD/xAP task force is already 6 hexes south of Lunga and heading south. It will probably go to Ndeni tomorrow to get under a CAP umbrella.
KB can either move forward and risk contact with other unidentified Allied ships, or aircraft from Lunga/Ndeni/New Caledonia flying naval strikes, or play it safe and withdraw north towards Rabaul.

Allied aircraft – the RAF seems to be focussing on Dacca while the USAAF targets Rangpur. As a result, the Nicks at Dacca aren’t taking as many losses as their brothers trying to defend Rangpur. When NF units need a rest or to replace aircraft, they rotate through Tezpur as it is not being visited by the Allies.

Morning Air attack on 144th Infantry Regiment, at 51,25 , near Allahabad – need to clear the allies that are cutting the railway line from Rangpur to Allahabad before getting some JAAF AF Bns and Tojos up here. Or IGHQ might just withdraw the current land forces so and just leave this as a short term raid, rather than try and turn it into a defensive position in the clear terrain.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Munda at 111,134
Weather in hex: Heavy cloud
Allied aircraft
SB2C-1C Helldiver x 20 – this was a mistake… I had planned to set some George LRCAP but thunderstorms were forecast so I stood down the Georges, but forgot to keep the subchasers at Shortlands. If I had of just gone with Plan A these Helldivers would have been in trouble… oh well, opportunity lost. These Helldivers flew from Lunga and are just a fraction of the total of about 130 Allied bombers spotted there.
Japanese Ships
SC Ch 19, Bomb hits 3, and is sunk
SC Ch 17, Bomb hits 6, and is sunk
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 54,36 (near Jessore) – the Allied stack was spotted withdrawing so the 12th Army stack were ordered to advance one hex. With only two Allied units spotted this deliberate attack was ordered.
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 27806 troops, 334 guns, 175 vehicles, Assault Value = 1005
Defending force 5942 troops, 139 guns, 145 vehicles, Assault Value = 106

18th British Division – hasn’t yet been destroyed yet but has suffered previous retreats. 18th Brit Div is now at about Bn strength.
6th Medium Regiment
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 60,35 (near Tezpur)
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 32996 troops, 354 guns, 154 vehicles, Assault Value = 753, +7 since yesterday, so a net increase which is great news as the “resting” combat teams are recovering well.
Defending force 19464 troops, 249 guns, 175 vehicles, Assault Value = 505, minus 17 since yesterday.
Japanese adjusted assault: 152, minus 68 since yesterday. From now on the 3x combat teams with the highest raw AV will be used in each attack.
Allied adjusted defense: 22, minus 12 since yesterday.
Japanese assault odds: 6 to 1 – same ratio as yesterday.
Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(-), disruption(-), fatigue(-), experience(-), supply(-)
Attacker:
Japanese ground losses: only 3 of the 9 combat teams are attacking each day, so IJA casualties are lower than when all units attack but Allied casualties are also reduced. At least this tactic is letting 2/3rds of the IJA “rest” in between attacks, even though they remain in combat mode to keep digging field forts. IJA disruption and fatigue are still at very low levels so the attackers can keep this up until the Allies surrender or are destroyed. The only (-) missing for the Allies is a morale (-), but that can’t be far off.
355 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 21 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled
Allied ground losses:
168 casualties reported
Squads: 16 destroyed, 0 disabled

Guns lost 3 (3 destroyed, 0 disabled)
Assaulting units:

Defending units:
20th Indian Division
5th Chinese Corps
75th Indian Brigade

This wasn’t a surprise as about 200 allied fighters were spotted at Calcutta yesterday.

The total for the day was a 52 : 32 win for Japan.

The quicker I can replace Tojos with Franks the better.
The George-1s were on LRCAP but didn’t do very well against escorting Corsairs.
That George-1 unit will upgrade to be the first full J1N1-S Irving NF Hikotai, with Irving NFs to start production factory repairs on 1 Aug.
It will take at least a month to upgrade that George-1 unit to NFs.

This is the current plan for the India Expeditionary Army.

An advance on Asansol was risky until the Allies withdrew from the Jungle hex at the centre of this image.
The HQ Korea Army stack will now able to advance into Asansol with a secure right flank, with HQs 1st and 15th Armies able to open up additional hexsides into Asansol to reduce the risk of Korea Army being caught there.

1st Tank Div has been attached to 23rd Army to help capture Patna and clear the railway lines through the clear terrain.

Assuming that Asansol is captured, whether the IJA continue to advance towards the Ranchi-Jamshedpur sector is still uncertain.
Both of those bases now have 20k defenders each and are in Rough or Jungle terrain, so will get decent defensive bonuses.
The further the Korea Army stack advances, the more has to be left behind to keep open the line of communication.
There are still 200k Allied troops in the bases around Calcutta that could concentrate enough force against the 11/12/13 Army defensive line.

I havent been following this AAR from start but may i ask how are you on the offensive in 8/43 ? Did you completely take over China or did allied player screw up massively ?

Good question, though I know the naval losses are very lopsided.....IIRC, the Allies lost all their beginning CVs, so he's still got CV superiority....IJN rules the waves! But more importantly I think:

--He wiped out China
--They have no HR about crossing national borders with restricted units, so all those Kwangtung Army formations are now in India

I think that last point is a big one, and probably why there's usually a HR about that

Ah, that makes sense. In this case allies should have flooded India with troops by now as its quite obvious where all those free troops will go , should be exciting

The Allies have reinforced India with lots of US Divisions so this is very close to the high water mark for Japan in this war.
I might be able to capture Asansol but even that is risky with Allied divs having a firepower advantage now.

Japan will need to go on the defensive soon in India, then start an orderly withdrawal once the Allies start to push.
That’s the plan anyway!
One bad loss on land for Japan and it could deteriorate very quickly, then it will become a race for the rough terrain on the Burma border.

The Allies still have Lexington and Saratoga plus should have a few Essex class CVs and lots of CVL/CVE by now.
I’m expecting them to try something in the Pacific soon too, so the initiative will soon pass to the Allies.

I agree, you don't want to be caught out in the open in that part of India if he has the US Army there. The firepower advantage grows daily. Does he have many US Tank units? He should have Shermans by now, which might as well be King Tigers to the IJA.

I would be looking for an exit from India soon...

For all I know, the 2x US Tank Divs that start on the West Coast and have withdrawal dates could be in India by now!
There are LOTS of allied vehicles spotted in the stacks around Calcutta, so I am wary of Allied tanks.
A recon bombardment of Asansol was just ordered so we will see what is there tomorrow.
Actually I will see it tonight, but I’m about 4-5 days behind on the AAR so I’ll try to catchup again this weekend.

Japanese adjusted assault: 138 – the attack force each day is still made up of 3x thirds of Divisions, each with about 100 raw AV, for about 300 raw AV in each attack. The rest of the combat teams bombard each day. So the adjusted AV from the attacking units is about 40% of max.
Allied adjusted defense: 16 – while the Allied adjusted AV is down to 3.3% of max raw AV due to all the (-)s noted below.
Japanese assault odds: 8 to 1

Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled
