Hello folks,

so... I try to remake the Dawn Patrol scenario from Harpoon (1.58) just for testing purpose and trying to get warm with the editor. Well... lots of problems here:

- When adding a unit, how can I change it's point of direction and speed? They all face north with 0 knots.
- How can I group units? I mark them but the option is greyed out...
- Is it possible to change the ships name just for the Dawn Patrol scenario after adding it? Because...
- Can't find soviet Nanuchka II's... except of Algerian & Indian ones incl. different names. The Soviet Union has only I's and III's in the database.
- How to add more spawn locations for the Nanuchkas and set a probability-of-spawn percentage to these spawn locations?

Damn I'm such a noob... I thought this would be an easy one.

"Remake these scenarios yourself" they say, "just like that" they say...

Greetings,
Cabal

1) I don't think there is a way to set orientation for mobile units in the editor. You have to place the unit, set a path and speed, then run the game until at the right orientation. Not the greatest of solutions, but its what I have always used.
2) Press G to group units that are selected
3) R brings up the dialog for renaming
4) Nanuchka II's were never used by USSR or Russia. According to Jane's Fighting ships 1998-99, Neil Harvey's Modern Russian Navy 2017, and Wiki, 10 II's were built and exported to Lybia, India, and Algeria. The USSR went from the I's to the III's.
5) There are no "spawn" locations. They have to start somewhere on the seas. In the editor, there is a "% Chance of Appearance" menu setting under the editor menu

Make sure you look at the hotkey list under "Help". Its a gold mine of useful info that is pretty handy.

Quick note and clarification. You can spawn units relatively easily in Lua. But if your having issues with the above, thought you might not be ready for that.

Cabal,

Welcome to the world of scenario designing, I was so daring what harpoon you refer to is it the board game version or one of the harpoon classic or harpoon three PC games?

Ok so here's where I think I might be able to help, in regards to the nanuchuka 1/2/3 issue you have two choices first and easiest is go with the libyian entry in the database for the 2, ask yourself does it really matter if the database entry is for the for the libyian variant? Second option is more work, look up the sensors and weapons of the 2 and make a note of it then add a 1or 3 of the Soviet/Russian version then add and or remove sensors/weapons so that the 1/3 is equipped like a 2.

As for specific spawn points, I dont think you can designate multiple specific points, you can specify a broad area though using the even editor. Set up a trigger , say scenario starts, set a condition, and then define an area and use the teleport action to teleport your ship or group to that area.

Not easy to get your head around I know but persist mate and it will get easier.

Regards

Butch

Hey all... thx for the heads up. But I will give up. I already wasted too much time (which I don't have) to get such a simple scenario (still not) running. It was a scenario from the old Harpoon Classic (v. 1.58E) from the Ultimate Edition. Just a few ships but millions of options to consider.. because they don't even attack each other.. made these two sides hostile, radars on and now they chit chat together, parked besides each other. Nah plz I have enough. :S

When CMNAO came out in 2013, the first thing I did was rebuild Dawn Patrol. Took me an hour, even without some of the newer tools and having done nothing but read the manual. I suspect you haven't read the manual on missions and targets of opportunity. CMO is all about missions. If you don't read up on those and understand some of the basics of ROEs, all is probably lost for you.
