Bryansk hangs by a thread, I got mesmerized by this 3D shot, noted bases are apparently not linked as to color of chit, you see here NKVD, plane, they are all red chits but green or gray 3d base, I wonder where the "switches" are that determine those colors? We may never know!!

Time to resolve combat, I hope the arty holds out ... and Bryansk and Leningrad too, Germans are pressing hard on those points, I think I can hold AGC but AGN and AGS are pouring on the gas!!

Soviets at the end of T42:

Bryansk has fallen! and Germans take the bridge which I had hoped to hold.

Leningrad in trouble: Germans only 15 or so kilometers from city proper (factories evacuated).

Here is picture of Central Front zoomed out a bit
a/k/a most of AGC .... not sure if Op Typhoon option chosen yet,

I think Moscow will hold ... not so much Leningrad ("BAH" says Stalin "Is Tsarist city anywho")

AGS, not sure where they are, they were advancing well but Kharkov is still in Soviet pocket,
Sevastapol also, but Rumanians there are nosing into that peninsula I think

Winter, 1942. Soviets move 058 :)
7 January 1942

Storms seem to have abated.
Stalin has sent 7th NKVD Motorized to "bolster" Red Front.
Red Front's goal: Trubchevsk.

Green and Blue Fronts aim for Novgorod-Siverky.

I thought this screenshot was informative: n.b.
how Red, Green, and Blue "fronts" (i.e., armies)
all have the same brown background color on their chits.
This means Red / Green / Blue will all cooperate to some extent.

Note also the delicate arrangement of Red HQs (all w/ their artillery pieces pointed East)
who will "fire for effect" at range, relentlessly,
for at least two combat rounds to soften up the German entrenchments before advancing the forward Red Infantry.

Also, note well how the Soviet units are not subdivided.
But nearly ALL of the Germans are subdivided.

Hey cathar! I hope The Next War Expanded is still in the works ... w/re/to that, I MADE FItE2 CRASH!!! Just like the other!!!!! I recreated it inadvertently :) but ah sure did it :) <pumps fist> YES!! Here i did what happened:

A few moves ago as Leningrad was falling, I thought, "That Baltic Fleet. Its done. But cannot disband." So I decided to run the boats up along Finland coast and suicide them by Finn coastal artillery. And it was working .... I was doing it, unit by naval unit. Scrolling the map. When ... the ... game ..... started ...... herky jerky slow down .... and I was like ..... "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! ITS THE CRASH BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUG !!!!!!!!!!!!"

And show nuff, she tanked. CTD it did. Thankfully it happened at the beginning of the move, I had just started moving units.

So there ya go. Crash from Next War Expanded recreated in FitE2. By doing the same thing: move naval units about, scroll map.

Mr. D opined that he figures it is a leak in "virtual memory" whatever THAT is. EDIT: scratch that Win10, I just checked, it is a pure Win7 machine, air gapped from internet and I use it solely to play TOAW and just one other non-internet game (and me personal works in progress). I transfer PBM and other files for TOAW from laptop via thumb drive :)

Hope to see more Next War! And hope you can use this info to help plug the leak? Maybe forward

info to Ralph? Maybe Bob knows what to do with it. I think maybe I should have a crash log? I forget where to find or what called.

Thanks, that is good info.

Yeah, I need to get off dead center and finish the touching up of TNW-Expanded scenario.

Your info above suggests there may be a bug with naval movement in certain scenarios. How much of a turn-off would NWE-Expanded be without naval forces (events would have to simulate battles at sea) ?

Cheers

While it is fun to have the boats as did Bob in the original, I recall that he also had event ... I think it was Battle of the Atlantic that determines something about NATO reinforcement arrivals, not sure. I never did much w/ the boats in Next War, I think it wouldn't be any great loss to simply take out the boats. That would take out the ability of a user to inadvertently cause the crash from the naval movement. They play a very minor role, and as you say and as Bob demonstrated in the OG version, naval events can be modeled at the strategic level.

Well, I think I'll give a try at making other scenes crash if they have boats. I don't think Larry ever reported any crashes in his Pacific scene that he did AAR on recently. I know he had the crash during our game of NW: Expanded (Beta). I think I'll try to crash the Pacific one, that has lots of naval.

Anyway -- well eager to play NW:Expanded! Love the Next War!

FitE2 is pretty cool, too. Have a great day!
