This scenario is a killer for working out your logistical talent.
With 10 airbases to hit and 8 different variants of over 70 different Israeli planes (with different loadouts)
I actually put this off for about 6 months because I knew it was going to be a brutal planner.
I have been plugging away at it for the last week and doing various play testing. I learned that the best results (about 2X over F1 auto target with doctrines enabled) are when you do the following.
1. Setup Assembly points
2. Segregate your planes into AC Strike and Runway Strike packages
3. Set STRIKE missions to Land with Off Axis attack enabled
4. Set Side doctrine for 2 rounds on all soft structures
5. Select the targets to attack in the strike dialog mission planner.

This leaves me with over 20 missions for just the strike portion (10 for AC strike and 10 for Runway strike for each of the targets)
Which on the list is actually 40 missions since each one generates an Escort mission.
My question is there a way to stop the AI generating an Escort mission? I am knee deep in scrolling through the missions to make sure I assign the right craft to the right mission and with this many its easy to make a mistake.
Also there is no way to sort the missions alphabetically when assigning the aircraft on the map by right clicking on them. The interface instead lists the mission in the order you generated them. This leads to a lot of scrolling up and down to find the target and package strike mission.

Glad you like the scenario, it takes alot of time to work your strikes in but you will get there :)

Thanks Con for interesting questions and issues that still need to be answered.

It would be useful to have a filter on the missions.

I have yet to come across escort missions being automatically created for strike missions, though it's still early days for me...

My question though is to do with facility destruction, including building and runways.

I read here that Dimitris stated that facilities cannot be 100% destroyed:

quote:

As we've said repeatedly, open-air facilities cannot be destroyed 100% with conventional weapons.

Which leads to the Hit Hard Hit Fast scenario triggers for points. There is a Trigger for Egyptian Facility Destroyed of type 'Unit is Destroyed'. Now can runways be destroyed or not? Or just damaged, and if latter why isn't that type 'Unit is Damaged'?

Yes... This scenario has been killing me (but I like it), approached it several times recently, tried different strategies, but a score of 2200 is the best I could get so far...

Thanks for the tips on strike missions. One question: do you do anything pro-active to try suppress and eliminate SAMs around some of the airbases? I can't prevent loses around them...

Thanks

Are you coming in very low from the north, on the Mediterranean side? I haven't finished that scenario, but that is what the Israelis did. They deceived the Egyptians for months that they were doing routine training flights and disappearing off radar over the Med.

I had to put the game away for the last 8 months while dealing with RL and pandemic
I never got a passing score since I had to many Israeli AC shot down so I will try a fresh approach.

My plan this time is to make it simple
For my first round back in on this scenario I am going to only launch planes that are armed for ground attack against Egyptian planes (mostly rockets and iron bombs)
Hopefully this will do the following
Decrease the clutter of 20+ strike packages
Reduce the victory loss points of opportunity by having Israeli planes shot down that were previously tasked to destroy runways

As far as I can tell there are no points awarded for damaging runways at best it prevents Egyptian planes from taking off - but I will have CAP available that I will vector to any Egyptian airborne assets and try to rack up more kills that way.
Wish me luck

Well its 2am and after a couple of false starts I achieved a major victory in CMANO # Hit Hard Hit Fast

First a couple of tips that helped
1 Used the editor mode to determine which airbases had the most planes (I assumed the Israelis in real life would have had the same good intelligence). I couldn't get this info from the game setup and briefing
2. I listed all the planes and the ranges so that I could determine which planes would hit each airfield and sequence of take offs.
3. I focused more attacks on the enemy fields with higher number of planes. Anything with less than 30 planes on it I ignored.
4. I used strike land with several major changes to doctrine
4a - no strafing/always follow flight path
4b - changed all the weapons so that the only fired off 2-4 rounds per shooter depending if it was rockets/vs Bombs
4c - changed Targeting doctrine for land soft
4d Setup the attack so that there was always two attacks from different compass points a North/South or East/West axis
4e - moved the waypoints and set the IP/attack waypoint so that the pilots were free to attack without following the flight path from the IP
5 Threw up two waves of CAP over the Sinai 20 mins apart
6. Only attacked Hurghada in the south with one element of Vartours IIA.( I reserved the rest for attacking airfields in the Egyptian delta)
7. Did not send any of the AC up with penetrators - you only lose VP points when they get shot down for no appreciable gain since you cant destroy the runways to get VPs

This scenario has literally consumed a month of my limited gaming time in December. I feel like I actually planned this offensive, I had excel files filled with data on airfields, number of enemy planes, experiments on multiple different attack options, ranges of Israeli different planes etc.

Might have been a bit too complicated but I do have a real sense of satisfaction in completing this scenario.
