Very nice results! Go Boise! Go Houston! Hit them again Cats!

Edit: Just saw your post about Wake. Again - good to see so early! Do you intend to stay and finish cripples/fleeing ships? Would be nice to see those three CLs go down, even if they are weak ones.

During the predawn darkness the American Deathstar () collides with the IJN's Wake Invasion Fleet...and both task forces evade combat...but it is enough to scare the American Commanders into re-routing to Pearl Harbor -- and that way lies the IJN KB!

Meanwhile, American S-39 follow the Dutch example and score some successes:

Good job Lowpe! Always nice to watch a master at work.

Your aggressive actions will set the tone for the rest of the war. Your opponent will be more cautious, moving slower and committing more cover for his future moves. That's as big a success as the ships that your sinking and the ground troops that you are destroying. Nice work.

Vice Admiral Brown is no Halsey...he lost his nerve after running into the IJN's Wake Invasion fleet at night, and disobeyed orders -- instead he decided to turn tail to Pearl as Guam fell the previous day.

(Have to be more careful with 2 day turns!)

Pilot training

2 Days does not an assumption make when it is as complicated as pilot training. I would like to say that Nimitz is the only thing that changed, but runway service improved, weather changed, fatigue, etc, etc.

Still, it is a marked improvement.

Good shooting there by everyone

That is one of the early allied turns where you know that its going to put doubt in the mind of the Japanese commander.

No CAP on any of the attacked convoys in the Philippines?

Congrats on sinking the Fukko Maru!

Sometimes it seems to take air units a few days of being set to train before they find the training manuals, dust them off and setup the classrooms and “simulators”.

Cruisers and maybe even a CS?

Since you apparently spotted her you should check out the stats on some of those AMCs.

I wondered who else would spot that.

Here is Houston, able to survive a flank speed 2 day run after taking two torpedoes.

Unless Japan starts moving very fast, the focus of the Japanese amphibious phase is going to be on Sumatra and Malaya.

Stole half of Java's supply (over 50K) and it is shipping to Sumatra and Singers. 10K has already arrived.

Sparrow Btln is four days away from Sumatra...There are a lot of troops and supplies from all over the western map headed here.

Dutch PT boats are at Batavia, and will be able to easily make Palembang. Palembang is mined, might be a mistake to mine it so early. Dutch sub minelayers are at sea with mines awaiting opportunities.

I never had luck with mines at Palembang. Maybe because it is a river hex.

When a squadron initially starts training, all the pilots have 0 points accumulated...and they need to earn points to advance in skill or experience -- so there is a lag before you see results.

Generally speaking you can train to 60 skill very quickly, about 30 days. Going from 60 to 70 takes generally 2 more months.

Of great interest is Draper A. A five point jump!

This is what 3 undamaged AS's can do to a submarine in 2 days at a level 1 port with no naval support squads.

Nice work, though I would never attempt a Wake Invasion at this point as Japan.....USN CVs are too close. That's one thing you lose by not doing a PH strike, Wake is easy to cover after PH because KB can just show up and scare everyone off on the way back to Truk

Do you intend to stay and finish cripples/fleeing ships?

Heck no. In fact they are in kind of a bad way right now. They have 10/10 dl on them.

Playing the Allies here early, is a lot like playing Japan late. And sticking around unless you have complete dominance is almost always a ticket to disaster.

Your aggressive actions will set the tone for the rest of the war. Your opponent will be more cautious, moving slower and committing more cover for his future moves. That's as big a success as the ships that your sinking and the ground troops that you are destroying. Nice work.

Whether the attacks were successful or not, that is definitely a goal...buying time.

Still, these are but pinpricks, just smoke and mirror meant to divert attention...the real damage to Japan currently is primarily logistical gaining time at Singers, Palembang, China.

And should Lady Lex or Big E fall victim to the KB...but there is a lot of sea room, and I know when to run. Although oilers are all out of position there exists other options, options that started moving into place on the 9th.
