Game ended.
ElvisJonesRambo (Axis) vs. calcwerc (Allies). Allies win.
Hardly fought game played to the end (turn 174). Stalingrad still in German hands in 1944, Italians in Thailand and Borneo(!). But in the end the lines were overstretched and allied economy and manpower prevailed.

I figured, since i like to go all in on airpower with axis it would be a wise move to invest in AA soon. The cost is not too high also to research and distribute on all troops. So it should not hurt too much either way.

In the pacific i like to go slow if China and India are in no danger. I have a bit of a habit to take bad fights with my navy (plagues me especially in WW1 atm), so i would rather go easy than risk it all.

Russia was a close one for a momemt, when i had no reserves. Weather saved me to regroup and strike back a bit.

It worked, that's for sure against my Naval Training exercise which is dependent on Jap Airpower. Germans had even tech with Ground Attacks, so them Russia AA +2 did well.

I salute your key counter-punch. Gutsy move! I saw your line was thin, very thin. Those three T-34's pounched first, had to shore up with replacements and you kept swinging, bought time for Allies.

Compatibility with the "official" tournament... - 1/20/2021 10:19:53 PM

I see the Slitherine tournament system is now out of Beta and is recruiting for players of WaW.

Who knows maybe the tournament system will end up completely replacing the ELO tournaments, that would be fine. However there seems to be a slightly different emphasis between the two (one scenario vs several, flexible schedule vs tight time limits, houseruling encouraged vs not)

In the mean time, any "official" tournament game which is eligible for inclusion in this ELO tournament is very welcome to be included in both. Same conditions for inclusion - must be a 1939 scenario game, both players must be happy for the match to be recorded, house rules are for negotiation between the players, see the first post for all the rules. If listing an official tournament game here please note that's what it is.

I don't think the Slitherine tournament system will replace ELO. Perhaps ELO Tournament is misnamed. It's not really a tournament where in one year you announce that someone won. It's more of a rating system, like chess. Hopefully at some point we will be able to identify opponents who are evenly matched with us using ELO.

I recommend that you change the name from ELO Tournament to ELO Rating or something like that.

The Slytherine tournament sounds fun. And that's what it's supposed to be. But it's not going to identify the best WaW player. We could start our own single elimination tournament with seedings based on ELO ratings. Maybe brackets, like the NCAA basketball tournament. It might take a year to play out, but so what. The final game between two masters (or master vs Cinderella) could be published on an AAR. That would be fun.

Game Started:

smckechnie (Axis) vs LoneRunner (Allies)

House Rules:
1. No diplomacy on majors and Bulgaria
2. No DOW on Russia before 1941

I wonder if we should require the "No DOW on Russia before 1941" house rule anymore. I guess we will see what happens in the tournament.

Games ended.

[LOSS] ElvisJJonesRambo (Allies) lost smckechnie (Axis) ---> Germans control half of England. Chinese worthless. Russia won't be getting any help soon. No point.
[LOSS] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) lost smckechnie (Allies) ---> Really didn't want mirrored game, too many games from Holidays still going. Slow Polish whacked start with Panzers. Naval Training slows Japs.

Thanks for the game's Fafnir

A true learning experience in how to play the game.

I spent most of the game, scratching my head wondering how the hell you manage to do things.

I know how you feel Taff. I recently lost to Marcinos. The entire game I was thinking, OMG how does he do that?

The cool thing is after the game he offered advice on how to improve my play. Wow, now that's a real master. And a nice guy.

When I play against those divine guys, I suddenly recognize that I am playing a simulation of the second world war, while they play chess, which they are simply much better at :)

Those rankings look somewhat correct. JackMack beat me, so probably above. Also guessing, JackMack been playing top level dudes, thus his lower ranking (thus, he should be ranked higher).

Thanks. Come to think of it- I've played and lost to the top four ELO rated players multiple times- Fafnir three times now, Taifun once, HamburgerMeat 2 or 3 times, Cpuncher twice- all losses for me playing the Allies except for the game with Taifun in which I was Axis. Playing mirrored games with HamburgerMeat at right now - we'll see how they go.

Another very good player out there is Sapara - lost to him twice and would consider him in the same league as the top four but I don't think he's played ELO games.

I've interested in an ELO game with someone I haven't played before. I started a game with me playing the Allies- password is riseandfall3r

@Farfin --- Appears your Private Message is turned *Off, was unable to deliver a message.

Was overextended with Panzers in bad weather. Good game, you ambushed lead panzers on consecutive turns. Panzers must have been out of supply < 5 or something to be so brittle. Was only in 1-hex into France

Japs have had winter weather every turn. Weather aggravates me to no end. Not worth playing.

Regards,
-EJR
