And end result...... doughnuts

A couple of non- penetrating hits and none of many torps fired strike home.

Sort of used to that result and doesn't really phase me. Sinking his CVs would be the icing on the cake but the critical issue at the moment is getting the IJA into a position where it can inflict maximum damage. Having more success on that front.

And of course to add insult into injury, Zuhio burnt up

This is trending in the right direction as well.

Next week- multiple invasions on both Oz and India.

Messy.......

His CVs are at Wake- will they engage further or retreat back to Pearl.

I am guessing they will break off and replenish, especially after a couple of close shaves.

- Which of course will result in them moving forward and engaging Have the CAP settings right this time just in case.

Lowpe is in the hurt locker here and it is only going to get worse.

I can't see him saving China no matter how skilled he is.

What major LCUs do you have on Malaya to finish that conquest up?

Since you mentioned invasions of both India and Australia, what LCUs are going to those places?

Some of your early conquest looks awful familiar to me Nat.

Thanks Mike, yes I am not very original The Chinese moves are also pretty familiar so I wonder when I start my next trick how that will go down.

I will get back to you reference the LCUs because they are all jumbled up. At the moment only the Imperial Guards and the 38th are headed for India supported by multiple Inf regiments.

All of the other divs are divided between Western Australia and Eastern Australia though I may change my mind again depending on the level of resistance encountered.

Singapore is being ignored for the next few months.

Last couple of days of Dec 41.

I think this landing and subsequent battle caught the Allies by surprise.

Smashed up a Chinese unit and a unit from the Burma Division.

Interesting to see the Chinese unit there. Now off to Rangoon.

Properly ashore now in Oz with minimum resistance.

Port Moresby still holds out but no other issues in this theatre.

Good to see the IJA finally on solid ground and in good order.

Next stop Brisbane (my home town)

And at the same time operations continue in Western Oz.

A bit more resistance here offered by the remnants of the Dutch navy who sortie bravely from Perth.

At the end of the day 2 x Dutch DDs and a IJN AK meet their fate in the cold waters off Geraldton.

Most surface task forces missed each other on this turn so there is a very strong possibility that the Dutch try their luck again on the morrow

*The Allies have lost close to 20 DDs by my reckoning thus far- I am guessing that has to hurt at this early stage of the war???

Battle of Blackwater Bay (Rabaul)

Its been a while since I presided over such a mini disaster.

Lowpe crouched in ambush, massacred a couple of Amphib task forces outside of Rabual. In traditional Japanese fashion when it come to military disasters, distant support was present but no where near where it would actually be useful.

Not too worried about the ships but the 146 Inf Regt was vaporised under a deluge of shell fire, torps and wild fire (?). Lost more shipping and troops in one turn than for the entire war thus far.

Such is life - lovely play by the Allies though.

Shipping losses on day 1

Still the Allies now need to fight their way out and KB is finally close to hand, sinking a couple of the culprits (US DDs) last turn.

I think this clip sums up the massacre quite well- you can see the 146th glowing in green.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxKzT7AzK1c&ab_channel=AdrianFenes

Regardless, in the immortal words of the great Stannis, prepare to land, the Allies have played their little trick and can't play it again.

And besides the Allies will have their own problems shortly.

Approximately one week away before Australian cities start to burn.

Established on the East Coast of OZ in good shape.

Bit more fighting to do on the West Coast but Lowpe has placed the 1st Aus Division in a sticky position in Perth.

It will be fascinating to see whether he can fight his way out of it. It would be good to bag a division this early.

In China, the critical battle of Sian is about to commence.

Not sure how hard Lowpe will fight here. It looked like he was retreating but then halted and reinforced.

Could get a bit messy especially for the Armoured group up North who are charging in first but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Java and Sumatra campaigns have effectively finished bar some final mopping up.

All units involved will be redeployed (50% to Burma/ India vs 50% to Oz)

Critical battle at Rangoon this turn.

Not sure how it will play out but decided to shock attack anyway. Fortune favours the brave.

Update early Jan 42

China- good progress still occurring in Northern China. Managed to catch a large Chinese unit with armour retreating from Sian and gave it a thrashing in open terrain. Will press on and see where Lowpe will create his next line of resistance.

China cont- will also start applying some pressure around Southern China near Changsha and see what reaction I get.

If he overcommits either in the South or North I will try to capitalise on it.

Rangoon will fall in a day or two.

I am surprised at the extent Lowpe is fighting with his ground forces. Usually I don't encounter much resistance as the Allies traditionally run away. Looks like elements of the Burma Army mixed in with the Chinese are trying to hold ground here.

I sense opportunities here if this continues.

Mopping up continues in Sumatra and Malaya.

Singapore looks very strong- will bypass and comeback to it in April/ May 42. The trapped units there aren't going anywhere. Need to maximise my adventures in Oz and India first.

Perth- WA

This is interesting as well. Lowpe has deployed plenty of combat power and looks like he is spoiling for a fight on the ground.

I'm bit underweight here and may have to initially pullback and regroup before hitting him on the flanks.

Again interesting, bold play by the Allies.

One for the audience-Note the American unit here on the map- how did he get that to Oz so quickly and any guesses as to what it might be?????

East Coast Oz.

This is the more traditional defence I am used to encountering. A smattering of some light units withdrawing in reasonable order (aside from the supporting units that have been cut off from the initial landings)

Ashore in good order with bombings of Oz cities to commence in a couple of days.

No issue/ surprises here.

The annoyance of Rabaul soon to be set straight.

The only real place in the first month that has cost me a stack of men and amphip vessels for very little gain.

I got about half of his raiders who caused me so much grief.

Summary- first month

Lost a lot more AKs/ APs than I am used to but the Allies have never stopped fighting which has been very entertaining. Warship losses outside of Zuhio and Kingusa have been non-existent.

Happy to continue to lose the odd AK/ AP to continue to push as hard as possible before the Amphib bonus ends. I am well acquainted to the slaughter of the IJN merchant fleet in 44 and 45, so losing 40 to 50 Aks in a reasonable productive manner is not going to worry me too much.

Which leads me to my key point. I would argue in the first 12 to 18 months the key centre of gravity of the Japanese Empire is not actually KB but the humble IJA infantry man. KB is fragile and can be hit or miss on its anti-shipping missions. Hard to catch decent Allied players with it as well.

However, if you can land these powerful assault divisions deep in Allied territory in early 42 they can run amok.

I can't answer your US unit question because I read both AARs. I will say that I actively follow both and I appreciate the time you take to write this.

Thank you,
