The alternating time periods in the vanilla version whereby each side has different weather is not ideal. However I understand that it is possible to change this in the Editor so that both sides use the same time period and have the same weather. Is this a relatively easy mod or a major adjustment.

Making the change itself is very simple. With the campaign open in the Editor, go to:

Campaign -> Edit Turn/Economic Data

and change the turns to simultaneous.

However, you may also want to double the turn lengths as otherwise the game would now have twice as many turns.

Then try it out to see if it works and feels right.

I used to think that having the same weather for each side was fairer but in some ways it's not - whoever goes first in the turn will be certain of the weather that the other player will get. I'm not sure what is worse, that or getting all mud in Russia when your oppenent gets a run of clear (and you need clear!) :)

The weather probabilities probably need to be coupled between turns, like they are between zones, imcreasing the chances that you'll get similar weather to that of your opponent. IOW coupled in time as well as in space.

Thank you for the info. I noticed that in Storm Europe Naval mod turn lengths are seasonal, 14 for Spring and Autumn, 7 for summer and 28 for winter. Would this favour the Russians?

No, because unlike say WitE the advantages the Russians have in winter aren't modeled, and it's much harder to attack in any event, even if the turns weren't almost a month long.

The turns are also not normalized for the winter months, meaning in summer you might get say 500 MPP/turn, so 1000 per month. In the winter you'll average 250 MPP per month, which makes it hard for the Russian to rebuild his forces before the next Axis wave comes breaking onto their front lines. [It also limits the Axis rebuilds of their own forces, including the Elite bonus troops, fwiw]
