Turn 1

FINAL Air Losses

97 German losses (95 pilots :(

for

3,719 Soviet losses (1,422 Pilot losses)

I know 100% I can further improve these numbers now for future games. When I find time to test will work it out. Until then this is good enough for starting a game now.

I see that you are splitting almost all of your armour into regiments...Will this overload the corps HQs command capacity ? if so...Is that of no big importance at this stage of the campaign in your oppinion ?
Will splitting units into regiments reduce their preparation points for next turn or does it not matter ? will overloaded HQs reduce preparation points ?

You seem to have been withdrawing many of the armoured regiments somewhat at the end of the turn and are actually hugging the surrounded enemy units...Why is that ? Is it to try and keep the pockets as small as possible and not allow the russians to flip as many hexes in their turn...or some other reason ?

I noticed that as well, the large number of broken down Divisions but in Strategygaming Dojos stream on you tube he noted it makes no difference to command capacity as the number of Divisions commanded remains unchanged.

I guess as the Soviet units are isolated with low morale the regiments are well able to contain them in the pocket.

All of my Corps are under limit for Command Points of 12(in assualt mode). The PZ Armies are also under limit of 45 because of Assault mode. I do have Army group Center a bit overloaded at the moment but will rectify that shortly. (By the way it does not cost AP's to change HQ's in WITE2 like in WITE1. You just incur Malice, so pretty easy to keep within Command Point)

I am hugging units with flipped hexes in front of me in most areas. With Soviet reduced MP's provides a decent buffer. Plus it is "always" my way of doing pockets. I always try to give the Soviets as little movement room as possible. The less they move the better. I have been doing that for years. Although I will make large pockets if necessary but you will notice in this AAR I strive to eliminate pockets in one turn. A non moving target is easier to eliminate ;-)

1. It does make a difference on command capacity. As you break a division down it adds another point to that CP. So I either keep them under or transfer to another HQ incurring the malice transfer or leave it and incur the over CP penalty.

2. The Soviets may be low morale and isolated but this is "not" WITE1. Soviets can open a pocket in a heart beat in WITE2 even on Turn 1 if you aren't careful.

You are welcome :)

Well I am "no" expert. Some say that I am really good but I am "far" from being remotely good.

I have learnt by doing & spot reading the manual if I have to to figure something out. It does help the game plays like old WITE1 though ;-)

LOL...hmm something seems off in the combat engine when not a single German is captured in a week of German assault operations...

Is the combat engine only giving up captured soldiers when a unit actually retreats? The big zero in captured for turn 1, is a dead giveaway something isn't right in the combat engine for calculating captured soldiers in combats.

You won't see a lot of captured German soldiers in 1941. If as Soviet you are advancing in 1944, I guarantee you will see a goodly number even if they are not surrounded.

M60---ya it appears they tied captured soldiers to forcing the enemy to retreat....not really a accurate representation of combat. As often squads or platoons are captured by the other side even in an otherwise tactically/operationally successful attack.

For me it depends on who I am playing. I can usually tell a persons play style by the 3rd turn if not before.

What are the different play styles you have encountered? Do they fall into like 2-3 categories or something?

I said in 2016 WITE2 BETA, in so many words, that the Center/South is the new play ground for Germany in 41 WITE2. Leningrad is worth too few VP's to consider with the amount of German resources allocated in my opinion. Unless of course I get an opening and against 821Bobo I have to see. Two bad I didn't go full tilt in BETA until the last two months prior to release, but I have a pretty firm grasp on what needs to be done.

I have a few but wont get into all of them for sure. But I can tell experience level of an opponent by placement of units is the big one.

And finally the Southern pocket held AND the Soviet Southern Front was not released. Hitler does a happy dance.

***Note that I did have some units on refit which would normally have shown up on all the above pictures in blue surrouding the unit. But I always reset that at the beginning of each of my turns***

Informational for German players, if you didn't already know, of what will come from the Soviets bombing your railyards.

Soviet NIGHT bombing of railyards

Soviets bombing at night with multiple different bomber groups are going to do a lot of damage. They will probably knock out the railyard most of the time. Not much you can do about it at night time besides put mass AA in certain key city hexes. Interception at night you won't get enough aircraft in the air to make much of a difference from my play testing. So the Soviets bomb, do massive damage to the railyard and you are stuck to clean up the wreckage. To me the damage seems over the top for night bombing railyards. Especially since there isn't much to counter the Soviets bombing. But I don't know the history of the Soviets doing this well and maybe it is the case. Maybe the experts can chime in but here is the first bombing and the 4th bombing of Riga.
