I think this has been asked before but even if I set ground support escort requirement to 100% its still possible to get a ground support AD with no escorts? Im just trying to find better ways to not accidentally run ground support with just bombers that then get chewed up

These divisions are all around 78 exp and above, with 75 morale. Do you have any tips that can reduce these losses?

edit: i noticed that in the supply detail screen that the negative replacement values correspond with an increase in manpower. I'll just get all these "losses" back as replacements then right?

When the player creates a new depot where there is no railyard, or creates a new airfield, often an ENG SU will be assigned to speed construction.

What level HQs are these assignations coming from, and when the job is done does the SU return to the higher HQ?

Should I be moving infantry out of my panzer groups for the sake of mobility? I'm still only in the first few turns but using my panzer groups to make pockets I'm having to leave one or the other out of command range. Any advice would be appreciated!

any that is in range, so that bit is fairly random. The SU returns to its host HQ when it is finished

Thanks - suits me if I don't have to worry about it!

if I recall, you can't breach these limits, they are a hard cap (unlike ground HQs)

in the early turns with the axis I wouldn't worry too much about corps-HQ ranges, for the most part your corps commanders will pass most tests and you will tend to dominate most battles.

an advantage to the infantry in the Pzr Grps is they retain the advantages of being in an assault command for CPP gain etc

Combat delay - is there a chance to attack a hex without generating combat delay? I remember reading in manual and there was something written that >10:1 combat result is needed to not generating any combat delay, but I cannot find it anymore in manual and it does not work. Maybe I am wrong but would be great if someone could write about this

22.2.7 in the manual. Scouting attacks and hasty attack with >10:1 result, without any enemy remaining adjacent to the attacked hex after battle create 0 combat delay.

Turn 1 has exception on the last rule, all 10:1 hasty attacks give 0 delay that turn.

Can support units be committed from a higher-level HQ (i.e. German 11th Army) to subordinates of a lower-level HQ (i.e. German 11th Army, XI Corps) if it is within 5 hexes of the combat?

no, it has to be the direct command for combat support units

Little question on Support-Units and Support-Level:

Starting a scenario, I want to get all SUs into my Corps-HQs. So I set at the beginning Support-Level of all Corps-HQ to 9 and all other HQs to Support-Level 0.

Now I see after 1 or 2 turns, that construction units did not go down into Corps-HQ and even some other SUs stay at the higher level HQs too. Where is my mistake? Support Level is not locked in game options..

Support Level doesn't count for construction units.

quote:

21.5.6
Construction and engineer support units have
permanently assigned support level settings that override
player support level settings, with the exception of
“LOCKED,” which will stop the automatic transfer of any
support units from the “LOCKED” headquarters unit. The
permanent support level settings for construction and
engineer values are as follows:
Headquarters Type Construction Engineer
High Command (Type 1) 0 0
Army Group (Type 2) 16 4
Army (Type 3) 3 3
Corps (Type 4) 2 2

Thanks, have not read that. But what about other SUs like AA-SU which did not move down to Coprs-HQs?

1. I only set the Corps-HQ to support-level 9, all other HQs to 0
2. In the next turn, OKH got about 15 new anti aircraft SUs from down the chain, Artillery and Rockets too

Why didn´t the CUs go down to Corps-HQs, OKH is set to 0?
Why went such a lot SUs up to OKH?

I cannot get into it - very strange. Who can explain it please

..set the support-level

..1 turn later at OKH

Does anyone know what the (max -16) number means? I can't cipher any correlation between that number and any other data. If you hover various airbases you'll get a variety of numbers. I counted the engines at Insterburg and the capacity (i.e. 194 used) agrees with the manual. But this "max" number has me flummoxed.

@Briklebritt

I'm no expert but I have read and tested that in order for SU's to flow down from OKH (once they are there) you need to set the Army Group AND Army HQ's support level to 1 (not zero). If the support level is set to zero then nothing can flow through them. I can't find this info in the manual but I read it either here or on Discord and tested it and I find it is so.

Thanks for this tip - got it! Now it works - I had to set OKW to 0, Armygroup and Army to 1 and Corps HQ to 2-9

Thanks for the quick reply! I was just curious because I haven't played any games at this level. I'm used to concepts of combined arms etc on a squad level, so I was wondering if at the army level I should be working about that. Thanks again for the advice.

As the soviet player I have some tank divisions sitting on 50 (45) morale, and with decent CV. (see below)

Whereas other of my tank divisions are sitting around on 42 (45) morale with poor CV.

They've all been static and not in combat for similar periods so their CPP is 100.

What are the factors at play that mean some get to 50 morale, and some stay lower?

tricky one, the main variables are:

a) leadership dice rolls - so they could be unlucky
b) low supply
c) fatigue

I'm going by 12.1 in this respect

there are others, but they tend to relate to more extreme situations

Really? For my fliegerkorps and luftflotte commands I've definitely gone past 180 and 480 CPs

Can someone confirm it? And if this is the case, is this wad? I thought this behaviour should just be the case if an hq is locked. I often don't want SU in higher hq but I want to have the automatic function. I use support level 0 a lot.

edit: I have found the following in the (really great) manual:
quote:

21.5.6
If you want to minimize the number of support units in a
HQ unit, but still allow automatic transfer through that HQ
unit? Use a setting of ‘0’ so that the only support units the
computer will send to the HQ will be the permanent levels
of construction and engineers

Curious - what happened to the 10,000 Soviet 25mm 72-K AA guns they made late 41 to 45? They is no ground element (an equivalent device exists) for them so they can't be in the game. Was it for play balance?
