Zeroes and Oscars on sweeps in late 42. Hmmm, doesn't your opponent have Tojos? Zeroes and Oscars work perfectly well very early on against Hurricanes when the Brit pilots are green but against trained pilots not so much. It's a difference if a 50mph faster Tojo is showing up on a sweep when the pilots are equally skilled.

I think he is flying from Rangoon which would be out of range for Tojos. I think he is afraid to base them closer since he does know I have B-17s in the area.

I was thinking of trying the Japanese again against the AI and maybe doing some of these mods as well but give the AI more than I get. Also, if that switch is still there to replace sunk Allied CVs, CAs, and BBs, turn it on.

Although most of the four piper DDs will drawl . . .

There is a checkbox in the scenario tab labeled "Use Respawn" That will allow American CVs and American and Australian CAs sunk prior to 1944 to be replaced 450 + random days from sinking.

Yes, they should be withdrawn. I had a cat pestering me so things weren't that clear. Plus, I had no coffee, tea, nor beer in me!

Fighter bombers attack
Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Rabaul at 106,125

Weather in hex: Severe storms

Raid detected at 33 NM, estimated altitude 3,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 8 minutes

Allied aircraft
Beaufighter Ic x 16

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
xAKL Higari Maru, Bomb hits 4, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAKL Tateyama Maru, Shell hits 6, Bomb hits 4, heavy fires

Aircraft Attacking:
16 x Beaufighter Ic bombing from 100 feet
Naval Attack: 2 x 250 lb SAP Bomb

I heard sinking sounds later in the turn, so one or both probably sank

And BTW, these FBs were set to 1000 feet. So they drop down to 100 feet, strafe and bomb.
I have to admit that I have rarely used FBs for these missions, mostly I have used them to train fighter pilots.

Fighter bombers and attack bombers more so are ship killers when they bomb from 100ft. IMO better to train pilots in low nav for the fighter and attack bombers than nav for the other mediums. It's just that it takes so long until attack bombers arrive in numbers.

For this game I took an extra size 30 B-25C factory, that will upgrade to a B-25D1 factory, more attack bombers.

The way I am tending to think of it is that 50 - 100 points is a minor mod. At 200 points you are approaching a respectable self made mod.

Ya me and Andy when doing our varients started out at 200 then went to 250 cause we wanted todo more I bet I could have talked him into 300 but at that point your hitting the limit that is like a major mod anymore your getting into a quite big mod.

Not sure about Vanilla but in Babes the first attack bombers "in numbers" show up as the B25D1 and that`s at 20 bombers per month in 1/43. By then I would have already produced several thousand airframes capable of attacking ships as the Japanese.

Not much happening.

SS Grenling who hit a mine at Hakodate sank this turn, I thought she might make it.
She moved 14 turns toward Adak Island, but it was not to be.

Maybe trying to move supply into Tulagi?

Nothing happening

Another question for the Japanese players. Xargun commented that he was short on IJN pilots. Is that a concern and/or problem?

That is a concern. I can only speak for Babes but IIRC it's the same in vanilla, he only gets 150 IJNAF pilots a month but this is going up in 43 to nearly 500 per month.
