Scenario 4 - Fire Cracker FPDA Forces vs. Soviet Union Date/Time: 10th April 1985/ 08:00:00 Zulu Location: South China Sea Duration: 12 Hours Playable Sides: FPDA Forces Brunei has complained to the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) on the infringement of its Economic Exclusion Zone by the Soviet Union, these Forces have also been harassing local shipping outside the Zone as well. Yesterday the Waspada and Seteria, two of Brunei's fast attack craft were sunk with the loss of all hands whilst patrolling their EEZ, their attackers are unknown, but it is believed Vietnamese units were involved. Brunei has requested Military assistance from the FPDA, Malaysia and Singapore have deployed units to the area to assist with the United Kingdom flying in a detachment of Buccaneers from Cyprus. The Australian and New Zealand Government has diverted a Bersama Lima Deployment (TU 544.01.02 and TU 544.01.03 from Singapore to the South China Sea in Response 544.01.01 is already on station in the Brunei EEZ. ORDERS & CONDUCT OF OPERATIONS The mission for Task Group 544.01 is to establish an overt presence in the Northern Sector of Brunei Theater of Operations from 150600Z May85 until further notice, in order to in force the United Nations Security Council Resolution 3786. Intelligence indicates that a number of Soviet and Vietnamese Warships been deployed from the South China Sea towards the TOO, Soviet aircraft are now based in Vietnam who are not actively supporting the Soviet Union. Any Soviet or Vietnamese Warships entering the EEZ/TOO are to be escorted out of the area, if engaged you are to return appropriate fire as required to neutralize targets. The Five Power Defense Arrangements (FPDA) are a number of defense accords established by a number of multi-national agreements between the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore signed in 1971, whereby the five countries are to consult each other in the event or threat or an armed attack on any of these five countries for the purpose of deciding what action should be taken jointly or separately in response. There is no specific commitment to intervene militarily. The Five Powers Defense Arrangements do not refer to exclusive economic zones (EEZ) and the enforcement of a state's EEZ rights is a matter for that state; a state may request the assistance of other states in so doing.
