Scenario 3 - Unwanted Visitors

NATO vs. Soviet Union

Date/Time: 3th April 1985/ 08:00:00 Zulu
Location: North Atlantic
Duration: 18 Hours
Playable Sides: NATO

Since the sinking of the Golf Class SSB NATO and the Soviet Union are now at war, Frantic talks between both sides have led to nothing with blame been levelled at each other, inside sources in Geneva have said the latest round of peace talks “are not going well.”
A state of War now exists between Soviet Union and NATO. SACLANT has now deployed STANAVFORLANT from the South Western Approaches to a position from which it can both deter and Destroy any Soviet naval movements in the GIUK Gap
A few days ago, the Northern Fleet sortied several Surface units into the GIUK Gap Area to hunt down any NATO units, as mentioned NATO has deployed units to counter this force, NATO assets are limited now, can NATO successfully engage the powerful Soviet units!!

OVERVIEW
COMSTANAVFORLANT embarked in HMS Brilliant has been ordered to detect and destroy Soviet units heading towards the GIUK Gap. The Task Group has been divided into Three Surface Action Groups to counter any threat encountered
The Soviet force composition and Intelligence is sparse at present, but it is believed to at least 5 DDG of unknown types as well as SSN and SSK's. Soviet MRR and possible Strike aircraft based in the Kola Peninsula are expected to make an appearance in support of their Naval counterparts NATO is unable to spare any AWAC's but MRR, Strike and Fighter aircraft from Iceland and Norway are available.

ORDERS & CONDUCT OF OPERATIONS

1. SAG Alpha, Bravo and Charlie to conduct ASuW Operations in Surveillance Area supported by P-3's from Iceland.

2. UNREP Group to remain near Iceland to be covered by CAP.

3. 57th FIS to provide long range CAP and ASuW support as required.

4. 351st ARS KC-135 to provide tanker support to 57th FIS.

5. Norwegian Forces to provide MRR, ASW and Fighter cover as required to intercept and SNAF units in their vicinity.

Scenario 4 - Fire Cracker

FPDA Forces vs. Soviet Union

Date/Time: 10th April 1985/ 08:00:00 Zulu
Location: South China Sea
Duration: 12 Hours
Playable Sides: FPDA Forces

Brunei has complained to the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) on the infringement of its Economic Exclusion Zone by the Soviet Union, these Forces have also been harassing local shipping outside the Zone as well.
Yesterday the Waspada and Seteria, two of Brunei's fast attack craft were sunk with the loss of all hands whilst patrolling their EEZ, their attackers are unknown, but it is believed Vietnamese units were involved.
Brunei has requested Military assistance from the FPDA, Malaysia and Singapore have deployed units to the area to assist with the United Kingdom flying in a detachment of Buccaneers from Cyprus.
The Australian and New Zealand Government has diverted a Bersama Lima Deployment (TU 544.01.02 and TU 544.01.03 from Singapore to the South China Sea in Response 544.01.01 is already on station in the Brunei EEZ.

ORDERS & CONDUCT OF OPERATIONS
The mission for Task Group 544.01 is to establish an overt presence in the Northern Sector of Brunei Theater of Operations from 150600Z May85 until further notice, in order to in force the United Nations Security Council Resolution 3786.
Intelligence indicates that a number of Soviet and Vietnamese Warships been deployed from the South China Sea towards the TOO, Soviet aircraft are now based in Vietnam who are not actively supporting the Soviet Union.
Any Soviet or Vietnamese Warships entering the EEZ/TOO are to be escorted out of the area, if engaged you are to return appropriate fire as required to neutralize targets.
The Five Power Defense Arrangements (FPDA) are a number of defense accords established by a number of multi-national agreements between the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore signed in 1971, whereby the five countries are to consult each other in the event or threat or an armed attack on any of these five countries for the purpose of deciding what action should be taken jointly or separately in response. There is no specific commitment to intervene militarily. The Five Powers Defense Arrangements do not refer to exclusive economic zones (EEZ) and the enforcement of a state's EEZ rights is a matter for that state; a state may request the assistance of other states in so doing.

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting Bersama Lima, 2003 vibes from scenario 4?
Also, what does MRR mean? I'm not familiar with that three-letter acronym.

This is looking good!

BobTank63 - not 100% sure - to an Army guy it is Motor Rifle Regiment but here it is probably Maritime Reconnaissance, perhaps Maritime Radar Reconnaissance (its a guess)

Yeah, I was confused because of the multiple definitions. Maritime Recon seems like a good guess.

Looks like your guess is spot on.

The link is to an interesting article about the RAF Coastal Command from WWII throughout the Cold War, No. 27 Squadron operated Vulcan B2 (MRR) for ASuW surveillance purposes: The Cinderella Service
