Out of dust thou are, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Earth to Earth, Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust.

The futility of all human endeavor, morality, and DEATH. So begins our attack on the Soviet Union.

Tranquility restored & hopefully soon the Air War will get a new patch(or some form of loving soon) I have decided to take up a game once again. I really wanted to wait until the Air patch promised(or some form of loving) gets pushed out but decided what I wanted to do in this next game as the Germans I can manage for awhile without that Air patch promised. I have also moved into my new home thus finally having a bit of free time I can put into the game. I am so glad I am "never" moving again having done so so many times throughout my life and especially while in the United States Marine Corps. With Gary Grisby's WITE has always captivated me & I could not stay away any longer. I have returned.

I hope to try some more of my “NEW” musings while I have been gone in this game with ZOVs. I may or may not explain them up front but will develop them over a few turns. I have no idea if these ideas will pan out but I will try them anyway as I always do in all my games.

The Settings for the game

Server game
1. Normal
2. TB full control
3. NO Air AI
4. Full FOG of WAR
5. Locked HQ
6. Current patch & will update on each new release

House Rule
no para drops more than 3 hexes from front lines

All other rules in the manual are a "GO", even motorization & all the GA you want.

I will be doing the turn on Monday/Tuesday since I am busy until then. I hope I won't bore too many people with my ramblings in this AAR

I probably won't be bored. I'm glad to see you doing another AAR.

But of course, that's just me.

Turn 1

Sheesh, had to re-install the whole game with the patch. I tried the patch on my old version and was acting funky on saves. Now after the reinstall all is working like clockwork :)

House Keeping

TOE's set to 50 across the board for everything checked on formation type at the bottom of the screen shot. HQ's(All types), Airbases, Engineers, and construction workers will all stay at 100% TOE for the time being. Did this in my last game, doing this here again. I will set specific units at specific times to get replacements.

Supply priority set to 2 for everything across the board on the map. I have played my games with priority 2 and really don't have an issue for the last 3 or 4 AAR's. Yes I will set occasionally higher priority when I feel it necessary.

Turn 1

Started game with locked HQ's. I just unlock every unit to "0" & set OKH to a 9 to have all SU's flow up to OKH. Really don't need many if any SU's for the first few turns. At most I use the Flamm Panzers. Everything else will move to OKH for redistribution in later turns.

I am now going to disband some planes(like recon) & Artillery that I am not going to need. Will show that later in the disband section near turn end.

Oh, I have to check if disbanding cost an AP. I don't remember so going to have to save and test it out real quick, grrrrr.

I remember it cost 1ap to Disband an FZ so have to test it out :)

Looks like you can't disband on the 1st turn. Must have been an update or was like that in the first place and never realized it. Either way will check the manual now. Fun fun fun

Why have locked HQs if you can just unlock them?

My opponent wanted locked HQ's I would assume. Matters not to me since I want my SU's at OKH and thus unlock everything for that to happen.

Will wait on the disbands since it also says in the manual it cost AP. Will wait until later turns when I have a surplus of APs (LOL right, Germany never has enough in 41)

(You can disband, just to be clear(there is a range requirement), I am just not going to to conserve AP's until later on land units)

Try to get rid of extra baggage(some SU's) and I end up being stuck with it for the journey. (At least the lady is cute :-)

This game is being started on 1.2.14 version 2 patch from the BETA forums, not the current version 1.2.13 patch here.

When setting up the game HQs can be set differently(one side locked the other one not).

Ah, never paid any attention to it. Thank you for pointing that out :) Don't think it would change anything in all honesty though the 1st turn of the game and Germany.

Yes it doesn't matter for Germany as you can change it anyway on T1. But for Soviets it does.

Yes she is, but that, sadly, isn't allowed any more.

Is it better for a Soviet side to have it locked or unlocked? Most house rules says locked, so this is to prevent additional SU distribution to a HQs that might get trapped in a pockets?

I haven't studied it directly but what are the settings for the Soviets when they get the turn? Would having it unlocked allow some flow to higher HQ's if the unit is trapped but not surrounded? I think unlock would be a better setting but that is just me mind mapping this in my pea brain. Maybe the smart people can chime in on this.

I have no experience playing Soviets in GC, so i have no idea what settings do they have :)

If HQs are not in a pocket - you can transfer units as you want, so it will not make any difference for a Soviet side. Unless people want to keep SU into a HQs to prevent CPP lose that you get when you transfer them.

I convert all on map Bf110-2's bombers to fighters. I also don't forget LG2 this time to retrain from bomber to fighter :). These planes will return after 8 turns of re-training.

I set my fighters to trained pilots only. Rest of my air fleet will be set to normal.

Just like in my last AAR game I am bombing. I don't care about the quantity killed in the initial air onslaught, although by the end I will hit 4,000 +/- 250. I will be keying "only" on the fighter bases that are close to the front line during the bombing. I will be using the closet bombers to bomb with an altitude of 4,000 in the south and most of the center and 7,000 mostly in the north. I will not be flying any escort s other than one mission which will escort JU-87's. Just like I mentioned in my last AAR the AI LOVES to intercept the Dive bombers & thus why I will escort them but will take the chance on the others.

I run the bombing I had set up and got the following results. The results are less than what I got last time in my AAR but will work just fine. I should still get close to 4k where I want to be. Now I will just let the fighters shoot down the un-escorted bombers to get all the kills to raise their skill and morale. Thus why I just went after the fighters just like last AAR

Just like clockwork the AI decides to intercept the JU-87's. Of course I have my fighters as escort since I knew they would most likely commit on them. The lucky Soviet b-tards shot down a 109 though :(. No other bombing runs were intercepted except for this one instance.

Of course I am moving these two very important RAD units to Russia. They will arrive turn 3 & in their place I have sent two normal construction units to Norway.

So have been doing the ground war with my fighter intercepting. I reached over 4K worth of kills so far (photo attached but feel this will be close to max numbers since my fighters are not intercepting any longer). but I have noticed that even though most of my fighters are not fatigued the fighters just won't engage more incoming bombers. What I did notice that after I left the front area that the fighters started to intercept again. I am beginning to think that the fighters are tied to a vicinity area of intercept. Of course this is just theory on my part but I have noticed the pattern. Could be totally out in left field or there is still an issue why intercepts are NOT intercepting when these fighters are well supplied & non-fatigued and Soviet bombers within 2-3 hexes of my fighters base. /shrug. Feel free to comment if you know something I might have missed while I have been away. Thank you much!

**** Note these are NOT the final numbers since I still have a great deal of movement to do. I have exceeded my last AAR numbers in this AAR with VERY low losses to Germany :). (The AAR I am referencing is here post 77 https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=5076862
