Listen, don't attack first (might be considered gamey since Japan would have done anything to keep the Soviets out of the war), ignore everything you heard ecxept the warning about Korea. A simple pincer along the rail line can cut the Kwantung army into two pieces (Sentenced to Death Group North and Sentenced to Death Group South). Just choose the places where you make the stands and make sure you got the rear covered (once again I stress the Korea issue - don't let your forces be cut in two). A fighting withdrawal into Korea is something to consider. Andy might get cocky and try a push into China which would be nice because you could use your China Ex. Army divs. Mind that Soviet air force doctrine is tactical, and so are the ranges of thier aircraft. Interdict with impunitiy when chances present themselves (gound troops will regularly venture outside the tiny air umbrella). A disrupted corps means a lot of troops are ineffective. The Vladivostok naval bombardment seems like a solid idea. The only thing is you need BBs for the initial 1 or 2 bombardments due to high-caliber coastal defence battery that need supression. And Rengo Kantai is short on everything these days...
Salute PzB, for this great game and best wishes now that your in Mk1 territory

P.S:
Still expecting you in Croatia...

Harbin and Changchung are definetely 2 death traps, you fight there, you are dead. Your entire army not enough to withstand his might.

Thx for the input guys, appreciate it
The plan is that troops from Harbin and Changchung will reinforce the flanks unless Andy
delivers a head on punch! It will take long enough time to break through both north and south of
Harbin. It would also be possible to cut the enemy spear heads of if they advance too quickly.

Andy will have to destroy our main forts without air support as Shindens will keep them out.
In return hundreds of Japanese LBA will strike back.

Rather quiet. I am resting and upgrading more Shinden units.
The Fleet is repairing and I hope to have some striking power within a few months.

Hope to get to Croatia next summer Honda

Gave our top scoring (living) ace with 23 kills a Shinden..hopefully he will double
his kills (99 exp). Producing 499 Shindens pr month now.

1st Panzer has unloaded 130 tanks and in a few days our armored reserve Corps will be ready.

Another Shinden unit has also upgraded in Kwantung - doing 1 pr day now. Plan is 48 for Harbin and
16 for all other major fortresses - backed up by another 16 fighters. A few major bases will hold 3-400 LBA.

Hoping to have 1 carrier, 3 battleships, 5 cruisers and 19 destroyers ready in a month.
Tomorrow the first radar equipped HA class sub will arrive (thought it was due today?). Afraid there's a bug
that will prevent them from arriving....would have been a waste.

No offensive operations planned against the Reds, but counter-attacks and flanking moves will be conducted.
The Navy will also go into bombardment mode and attempt to disrupt enemy advances along the coast.

I'm not contesting Allied air supremacy on Luzon. Could have done it, but it would have cost all our reserves
and forced us to tap the Home Island reserves. Need them all for the upcoming battles.

Pauk, I've received 6-8 Militia Divisions: Have a look!

Pzb, were these militia units ones that had been destroyed or where they new? Where did they arrive?

I am in Nov 44 and the Allies have landed in Takamatsu. I am trying to plan my defense of the Home Islands but my civilian leaders are not telling me when, where, or if militia will be available to help

I don't think he will advance any further prior to january. The 20K AV worth of troops I have in the HI should be able to hold until then.

I recall someone saying that 20 militia divisions arrive at 1/3 strength. If this is true the HI is secure.

Militia divs appear in early 45 - ca february - if I'm not mistaken.
They were new units, not destroyed ones. Appears understrength with few guns
and 25/25 morale-exp...so don't expect too much from them before they're receive some training

Major events today!
Watched the A2A battle in a brek at work today.
Shindens are amazing - still no more than 30 in action, but they even the score aginst Corsairs.

Continued to upgrade to Shindens in Kwantung - pri 1. Have to get my defenses ready.
What is D-Day for Kwantung again, 16 of August?

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 07/10/45

91 vs 91 A2A losses in this battle!
We can afford it, but I'm surprised Andy is pitting his CAGs against our increasingly
lethal LBA fighters.

All fronts are going active and I need 3-4 hours to process 1 turn...which I don't always have.
In 1945 WitP goes a bit crazy, especially without sufficient house rules

Kwantung

Now got 560 tanks in Kwantung in a Panzer Army
Withdrawing ac from most theaters to at least fight one winning battle.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luzon

Looks like another jump in Luzon with another 100k troops unloading at Manila in a single day
Should be fixed coastal guns in Bataan and Manila. As it was not a single enemy vessel was hit.

Saw the transports yesterday and before I could move a single man from Clark they had landed...
So nice, got 150k troops in Clark, but can't move between my own 'hexes'.
In Luzon we got 350k troops, but not a single man can move because Andy has 'frozen' them all by
ferrying troops all along the coast.

Hexes have to be sub divided..only way to make land combat somewhat realistic

I'm not going to sacrifice my Air Force against enemy LBA in Luzon.
Withdrawing them for battles we still can influence.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Home Islands

In Home Islands I'm more willing to face enemy CAGs. Tokyo has taken a beating, but I've turned of most
of the industries there and Shinden factory is undamaged.

Have halted all HA sub production. They're bugged and does not get any closer than 1 day from completion
All of these 'issues' makes it a hassle to play a times.

I've started a few Battlefront PBEM games - Market garden and Op Crusader.
It is fun to defend in WitP, but in 1945 everything is just chaos and crazy.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 07/12/45

Day Surface Combat

Had to laugh when I saw this one!
WitP is really turning whacko in 45...
Sent a surface TF into Tokyo to disrupt potential enemy bombardment groups.
The 2!! enemy DDs were still present - non of my LBA groups touched them.

Rear Admiral Nishimura in the heavy cruiser Kako (95/86 exp) and 2 light cruisers and 10
destroyers would surely make short process of the poor enemy's forgotten in Tokyo bay

What do we see? Our 'guys' are surprised and the heavy Kako is shot up by 5" guns with another 7!!! of
our destroyers sunk and another heavily damaged before the enemy ships are sunk.

1/3 of our remaining destroyers are gone - but I'm still smiling while shaking my head

This doesn't make much sense to me? If CAP fighters can fly - our own bombers can surely take off as
well. I suggest that only rain and T-storms close a base from launching offensive missions.

regarding the Black widows i can only surmise their quad .50 cal turrets can clobber japanese fighters when they get the bounce in combat. Otherwise they would be dead meat.

As for weather , i've grown to completely ignore it as its way too unpredictable in the effects to have any serious meaning in tactical combat imo.

great game though .. shame about manilla , seems a bit gamey to me .

The Widdow has a normal range of 12 hexes and an extended range of 16 - which allows sweeps from
Marcus Island to Tokyo (14-15 hexes).

It's a heavily armed fighters with a gun rating of 28.
Still, it's speed is 100 mph less than the Shinden. Manouver isn't too hot either.

Should not be possible for a 2 engine night fighter to match superior numbers of much faster and agile fighters
Guess Andy does not complain about this

Andy doesn't play gamey, he's just a monster brute with absolutely no regards regards for losses
I feel that I'm justified to play a ruthless game as Japan, but an Allied player should be more conservative me thinks.
But this is an individual choice...

Today saw the landing of enemy troops in Colombo - with heavy losses.
Manila also fell. Looks like Andy is going after the biggest VP targets.

While Manila is worth 2100 VP, it only has a size 6 AF - same as Aparri.
Clark is still the biggest price, and it will be another few weeks before Andy
will be able to suppress the defenders there. We have 2200 AP, 50 supplies and 7 forts left.
Will take 5000 AP to suppress it...unfortunately Andy has 6000 AP

We have a reserve of 600 AP in Bataan though. So we will continue the fight until the end.

We had 100 bombers in Trimcomalee but only a handful sortied.
All other mainland bases in India were closed in the AM phase...and of course Colombo
was closed in the PM turn. The usual bad luck regarding weather continues.

[...]

Maybe we can thwart the enemy in Colombo?
100 transport ac will attempt to reinforce the garrison.

Isn;t that a bit gamey - flying transports into a "closed" runway? I thought that there must have been a houserule against that exploit?

I assume the ops losses will be bad but in PzB's defence the game allows some really annoying supply flights, so its not an exploit as both players use this to their advantage .

damned Zekes can cause a lot of sys damage ( i.e lost radar , gun emplacements etc) just because they can't penetrate the armour does not mean they died in vain ( from personal experience) .

Andy is flying Coronado's into Colombo with glider troops!

I'm mostly using Emily flying boats to fly troops into Colombo...they don't need a runway.
Transports can also land at damaged airfields. We have no house rules against this.

Well, can only hope the Zekes caused a few sys damage points. Didn't see any serious system damage though.
A direct turret hit causes no visible damage.

Rysyonok - is this the same name as "rys" (lynx) in Russian?

Not much of a fleet left, and what we have is completely inferior to the enemy!
A battle fleet led by the Yamato, Kongo, Yamashiro and Fuso remains - but the latter 2 are
still heavily damaged. The carrier Taiho is being repaired and should be ready for action shortly.
Then there are 3 heavy and 4 light cruisers as well as 16 destroyers and ca 30 subs.
Unfortunately the last sub class Japan receives is bugged and does not arrive (HA class).

Maybe I should use them to protect the Inland Sea and bombard the Soviet bases there?

Moving more air groups to Kwantung and finalizing the defenses.
The 1st Panzer will arrive south of Harbin tomorrow and get some R&R.

Need more firepower and some luck to finish an Essex fleet carrier Fish.
Firepower we have, but Uber CAP and bad luck makes it difficult.

Don't have more than 15 light ships - destroyers left.
There is a score of PC and MSW but little use for them. No enemy subs in sight.

Another happless turn; mostly enormous losses in the air.
We did maul the unescorted sacrificial enemy convoys around Ceylon in return.

Continuing the buildup in Kwantung with more fighter units.
The Shindens are defensive fighters that will prevent enemy ground interdiction.
In return we need Franks to escort our bombers that will smash the Red Air Force.
