Situation Report

India

I'm getting frustrated by the slow progress of my troops in India - especially compared to the speed Allied troops
march around with! (see map) While my men refuse to leave Jamshedpur, the Allied troops that withdrew from here have now almost reached Benares

I guess Al wants to delay me south of Bombay until he can save them and then withdraw in an orderly fashion towards Dehli. I found the 2nd Oz Division south of Bombay today...hm, there might be a lot of enemy troops around now.
Have to come up with a good plan if I'm going to manage to pull this one off. There are 60 fighters and 90 bombers at Bombay, in less than a week my batttleships will flatten the place! Al might hit Hyderabad tomorrow, moved in more Zeros.

The interdiction above my forward elements south of Lucknow was a success, he will think twice before sending out his Wellingtons again. Need more than Buffalos to escort them.. He needs his best fighters to defend against a large raid against Lucknow proper!

I'm a little worried: suddenly I spotted 2 enemy tf's north of Derby in northern Oz! One made up from transports and apd's, the other of dd's. What is he up to? I've not spotted enemy convoys in the Timor Sea for months. I'm afraid he wants to reinforce India! That could be the reason why it has been so quiet in the South Pacific lately...I've been expecting an all out assault any day now.

Since the cunning Kiwi knows that I got cv's in the area, he would have to bring his own to get through. Curse him sideways if he's up to something nasty! All my cv's in the area are low on fuel and I've dispatched the 2nd Carrier Division to Truk were it will arrive in 2 days. So I'm too weak to stand in his way...3-4 enemy divisions and 5 cv's would be more than enough to save India

A seaplane tender and 2 destroyers will continue to shadow the enemy transports, if he really is trying to move through the area in force - his carriers will demolish them and I'll know for sure!

I got Betties and Zeros at Kendari and I've relocated more bombers to Sumatra and Java. There are now 150 of them in the area, but virtually no fighters. I could move reserves from Truk, hmm.. I'll prepare a devils potion for him if he's really up to what I think he is.

The next turns will be exiting....

Central/Southern Pacific

It's quiet, and this makes me even more suspicious. Today there were no enemy CAP above Lunga and the enemy ships around Tarawa is the only activity I've spotted for more than a week. The strikes from PM continues, but the raids isn't that powerful anymore either.

What do you think guys, is Al going to reinforce India....and if so, what should I do about it?
I don't think I got more than a 50% chance of booting him from the continent as it is, and just a few carriers and divisions would be enough to delay me long enough to reduce that chance to nada Then I would have to start making Tokyo fire proof!

Greetings...
I've also same situation (about moving). My tank regiments entered rangoon hex (which was defended with indian brigade), one was ordered to leave base (NE of the rangoon), everything looks fine - text shows distance 60, travel 0. But, next turn my tank regiment was still in rangoon (text shows distance - none). Is it this situation like you have in Jamshedpur?

I'm not expert for movement, but i suppose that's how movement designed?

Hi Pauk!

Yes, that's about the same problem as I got. First I thought I forgot to move my troops...but I knew I ordered several units to move into Diamond Harbour. Next turn they were all defending and hadn't moved a single mile.

Seems like I have to order them to move one hex at the time? Very frustrating!

I also got other problems: the 'R' button is VASTLY confusing, according to this it is possible to move in all directions
- even when there's no physical railroad line to follow. Each time the AI send my men into the wilderness - or I'm stupid enough to move off the road on my own accord - I end up being stuck for months.

Even more frustrating: the units on the railroad line NW of Dacca take 10-12 days to move on. They only move between 4-6 miles each day - and this is supposed to be railroad?

Movement of troops is too easy in WitP when the railroad works - when you something happens, as it does most of the tine, it becomes horrible slow and unpredictable.

If there is one single aspect that needs patching - this is it!

Situation Report

Good news in western India! It doesn't look like the Allied divisions there can stop my powerful army. Wobbly got a dilemma now, Bombay is a tough nut to crack, but
all the troops that he leave there will have to fight until the end...no way out! My battleships are also getting closer

My units in Jamshedpur are now moving towards Benares and Diamond Harbour. Giving them orders to move one hex at a time worked *blæh*
Also got a base force into Asansol - 33 Oscars and 36 Lilys have been moved in and will strike secondary targets without CAP.

The naval bombers in Sumatra and Java immediately took of and hit 2 Allied transports - the ships are still not home free! Moved my cvl towards a 'ca' - thought
it might be the Warspite...was a damaged transport. I think she's been scuttled!

Been thinking about what that bombardment against Koepang could mean - I've just recently moved in a new recon unit. The last one was bombed to pieces by the
'milk runs' from Northern Oz. I think Al wants to shut my eyes! The only answer to this is to move in more search plane squadrons.

There are some Map graphic errors, which means hexes shown as rail aren´t and some jungle hexes are. Hitting R should show the real raillines.

When i face this kind of problems with LCU movements, i tend to consider them related to the logistical problems of moving thousands of marching men through enemy territories. I know that it's probably a bug, but i live with it imaging how would have felt Halder or any other HQ german leaders when they ordered to 1 or 2 armies to move towards a russian City , just to have from the front lines the answer that those men cannot reach the objective in time because of the roads related problems.

BTW, I'm curious: what's the status of your fleet? I mean...all those CVs and BBs moving around for months in the Bengal Bay...how their sys situation?

I know what you mean Hoepner.... I've learned more about the secrets of the 'R' key now, the AI still shuffles my units around - but I hope to avoid the worst
gridlocks in the future!

The ships are mostly fine: All my carriers except a cve and a cvl got between 2 and 10 sys damage.
The 5 bb's sailing around in the Indian Ocean got between 8 and 14 sys damage. The escorts and cruisers are all fine. I've been rotating the smaller ships
in and out of port. Must say the bigger ships have kept nicely in repair!

Looked at my carrier fleet today: Got 300 carrier ac at Truk and 215 in the Indian Ocean. Also got over 120 trained Vals and Kates in reserve.
Might have to join the two fleets together to be able to take on the US cv's when it becomes necessary.

One fine day they'll all meet in Karachi for sake and corned beef

Both the Kaga and Akagi are now only 1-2 days away from Singapore. They need ca 40 ac replacements - I will mostly use trained reinforcements by dividing and then disbanding
carrier capable Val and Kate Daitais into the carrier air groups. Going to move 3 damaged bb's, 6 cruisers and 8 dd's to Hong Kong and Shanghai - these are my best repair yards.
It's amazing - I've only lost 2 cl's and 10 dd's this far. (+ 2 cv's that is :p) My fleet is still intact! The only sad thing is that the US fleet is also in one piece..At least the RN has all but been eliminated as a force to be reckoned with in the Far East!

Central/South Pacific

Nothing much happening really! Al says that he has now made Tarawa impregnable..he can keep it!
The 2nd Carrier Division has arrived at Truk. There are now 3 cv's, 2 cvl's and 3 cve's here together with 20 cruisers and 60 destroyers.
They can have some R&R before I decide were to send them!

PS! Also note that even though I got 1500 men at Panaji, not a single man was lost to the bombardment.
The base force has turned into a ghost unit....

Will take one when I get the next turn..unfortunately Al is going away for 2 days

Nothing much has really happened in the South/Central Pacific over the last 5 months. I've lost Lunga and Tarawa, but
is strongly dug in on a line stretching from the Marshall Islands and to Rabaul and Lae. Got small garrisons at GG and Buna...

Mostly busy reinforcing Shortland and the Admirality Islands, Kavieng ++ now. The Marianas have also been prepared, still no troops on Guam. Wewak is a size 4 af with 100 aviation support. Hollandia is also being processed..size 3/3 now.

Truk is my 'hub' - here I got my fleet and reserves - will be able to send out 30-40k men in a rapid reaction force as soon as they can be loaded.

Al has built Lunga, but there has been little or no activity here lately. Only my raid against Tarawa managed to stirr some activity. The Allies are also mounting daily attacks from PM - the thorn in my side that makes Rabaul untenable as a forward base.

Been 100% sure that an attack was imminent in this region for some time, but the sudden calm and unexpected spottings of Northern Oz has now made me think that the focus is shifting. Shifting some ac around but otherwise awaiting the situation until I can see what's coming....!

Hi PZB,

As regards performance of the CL Boise in your other game, I wanted to tell you to check the first parts of this AAR:

And congrats on your operations in India ... eagerly awaiting to know how they will progress, and where (if?) your opponent will try to react.

Thx Terminus! The link didn't lead anywere...remember that you have to log out before you can copy and paste a link that others can use.

It will be very difficult to eliminate the Allies in India - but I will give it my best try. A plan to unload 2 divisions at Karachi is forming up... This depends on whether Al intends/manages to reinforce India, and on whether he tries to create a forward defensive line - which I think he will. Pulling back to a single city would effectively mean the end of India - so this is exactly what I'll try to force him to do! *chuckle*

Oh, sorry ... I didn't realize that

The link lead to this:
Code Purple Intercepts - Scen 2 PBEM AAR (by Cap Mandrake)
which currently resides on page 2 of the AAR lists.

The adventures of the CL Boise are described in detail on the first page of the AAR - I don't copy/paste them here, because they contain a lot of images and I don't want to waste bandwidth. But it's an interesting read

Seems like the Boise is a charmed ship! Unfortunately I lost her...enemy cv's got within 4 hexes after she had engaged another 2 ca's and gotten away without aditional damage. Only 1 more hex and she would have been out of torpedo range and made it..quite sad.

Excellent AAR that Code Purple btw Must take more time to prep the AAR than the turns.

Not so! Right click on the ID # in the lower right corner of the post you want to link, select "properties", highlight, copy, and paste the "Address (URL)" into the "URL*" window of the "link" popup.

(OT, I know, sorry)

Situation Report

Nothing much to report - progess in India is slow, but my army is moving slowly forwards. I have to combine my scattered battlegroups before the final push against the enemy in the north. I got ca 300000 men to deploy for the final push! Al will have to concentrate all his forces in one base to stop me, and that's exactly what I'm going to exploit. Divide and conquer!

I've ordered my battleships to move at full speed into Bombay and bomard. Ah..just remembered that I didn't look into the 'escorts bombard' setting : - o Hope it's set to off!

It's annoying that my Betties in Sumatra and Java doesn't launch against the Allied transports a mere 12-14 hexes west of their bases. I've got spotters in the area, but still no strikes.

An enemy recon flight flew over Rabaul today, I'm going to rest my Zeros and prepare for a possible attack here now. Al will become more careful about attacking Lae...I hope.

Situation Map: Strategic Map

Todays map shows an outline of the territory occupied by Japan. Ok, Port Moresby and western New Guinea doesn't really belong to me yet, but this is ca right.

Interesting... What is that lone unit way south of Java? And did you disable the display for subs, or are they just not showing up?

South of Java? Ah, yes I thought you meant west, but north isn't really the top of the map is it!...

That's a seaplane tender + a long range msw escort. It's launching limited strikes against the enemy transports in the area as well as providing an extended naval search option for my land based naval bombers.

They conducted this unsuccsessful attack today: (therefore excluded from the AAR)

Day Air attack on TF at 6,62

Japanese aircraft
F1M2 Pete x 6

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
AK Hatterlock

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x F1M2 Pete attacking at 100 feet
2 x F1M2 Pete attacking at 100 feet

This Tf also got an additional task: If Al is going to send anything up to India - I'm going to spot it. So the AV and msw are 'expendables' - they will pursue as long as they got fuel and then head back to the closest base to refuel and then go out again. I've also moved additional naval bombers into Sumatra and Java, they don't really seem eager to fly - but perhaps if bigger pray approaches....

It's easy to spot ship activity on the map - they're clearly visible as numerous red dots. I got most of my ships in the Central/South Pacific in port.

The subs are the units on a line running roughly east-west of northern Sumatra. Most of them are low on fuel and torpedoes. They've not been successful at intercepting the enemy transports...or anything else for that sake! I've ordered most of them back to Singapore for some R&R, they've been to sea since the beginning of the war. Not many enemies left to stalk off India. There are still 5-6 left of Ceylon and the west coast though.

The large red dot on the Indian West Coast is my battlefleet! There are also numerous convoys around Trimcomalee and Madras + several more in the Bay of New Japan My cv's are just west of the northern tip of Sumatra + in 2 tf's heading down the corridor between Malaya and Sumatra.

Situation Report

India

Looks like Bombay and Diamond Harbour will be mine soon! Hope Al left some fuel for me....
Need to move in a large aviation regiment to Bombay + engineers and AA. Then the bombers will arrive and prepare for the final assault on the kapitalist strongholds in India!
Soon I'll have 5 engineer regiments ready just southern India. The plan is to land 2 divisions and 3 engineer regiments at Bombay after putting a heavy pressure on the enemy in Dehli.
Have to land a recon squad in first, can't afford a failure. Breaking in through the front door will be a doomed enterprise. Nicht kleckern, sondern klotzen as our friend Guderian would say...

Worried that Al might invade Koepang and get a size 4 airfield...the base is not well defended. Impossible to leave anything that close to northern Oz. Nothing much to do about it.
Got 2 divisions worth of combat troops at Truk - that's my strategic reserve!

China

What now? I've driven the Chinese back into 4 bases, well all the troops are kept in only 3 of them.
It would take a gargantuan effort to continue the advance. I'm more in favor of digging in and await the situation. Perhaps we can find an openind if the enemies supply situation gets bad?
The Burma Road is closed!

Central/South Pacific

Nothing much to report really..waiting for the last Junyo cv - will arrive in 44 days.

If you do not plan to attack in China any further, you might launch some strategic bombing against his HI/Resources/Oil/Manpower. Would further complicate his supply situation and give you some additional strategic points
The question would be whether it is worth to have the bombers there, whether he would assign fighters for defense, what to attack, ...

No, he did have a flying CAP over the base.
Didn't include this in the AAR:

Day Air attack on 70th Chinese Corps, at 47,33

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 18
Ki-48 Lily x 20
Ki-49 Helen x 10

Allied aircraft
I-153c x 2
I-16c x 2

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-48 Lily: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
I-153c: 1 damaged

Allied ground losses:
44 casualties reported

Aircraft Attacking:
20 x Ki-48 Lily bombing at 10000 feet
10 x Ki-49 Helen bombing at 10000 feet

So I assume Al forgot to move the remaining fighters out....

I don't think Al can afford to base fighters in China right now, but all of my bombers are busy in India. The remaining ones are held in reserve in the South Pacific.
But it's definetly an idea for the future if the Allies doesn't understand that their only option is a negotiated peace....

Situation Report

India

Today the Kaga and a light carrier arrived at Singapore. The Akagi and another cvl arrives tomorrow.
I've upgraded their air groups with veteran units and they're almost up to full strength.

Al told me that there are 800000 !!!!! supplies in Bombay If I can get my hand on these....That's why we stop bombarding
the place asap! The race towards Dehli is on, I'm sending 2 divisions and engineers into Bombay - the rest will pursue the fleeing Allied
troops.

Within a few days I'll occupy bases worth another 1000 points, which will leave only a mere 1500 point worth of Allied bases in all of India!
I think the Allied troops at Lucknow will start force marching towards Dehli any day now, if not they'll get cut off. If I'm lucky most of them
will try to protect Dehli. This will play straight into my divide and conquer strategy!

All of the Zeros in India will be rested before moving to Bombay and perhpas Lucknow - sweeps will then clear the skies of enemyfighters
before heavy bombing raids commence against the remaining largeAllied af base in Inida - Dehli. It should be possible to first weaken
and then defeat the RAF in the Battle for India. I'm willing to committ strategic reserves to achieve this goal.

China

Most of the bases that could be attacked by the chinese now fields heavy fortifications! I will consider another offensive in a month or two.
Have to think about it...

Central/South Pacific

Moving a heavy AA battery to Shortland together with another construction and base unit. If Al doesn't attack, I will turn it into a fort that will protect
Rabaul from the south. Now A LOT of mines in the area...Rabaul itself got 3500. The bases in the Admirality and Marshall Islands are also expanding and it
will take a major Allied effort to capture them.

I am still rather new at this game so I dont know what people normally do in the game. But if I were playing aginst you I might think about making an attack on you from the North. I would use the Alaskin island to make an attack on Japan. I do not know if this is possible but it look like you have streched a little thin. Wobbly has to see that You are diggin in around the Centeral and South Pacific and that you have large armys in China and India. If I were him I would try to attack Japan istelf becuse it has to be weak. He could do this with his carriers or mybee even an landing party.

I'm sure Wobbly is planning something....an invasion from the Artic North is not a very likely option though. He doesn't have anything like the number of divisions needed to invade Japan in mid 42. The Aleutians takes a long time to build, and bad weather makes sure that most of the air sorties in the region are cancelled or strongly reduced.

He has to do something that got the potential to hurt me - and that fast - preferrably before India falls.

I thought he was going for the Marshallas or the Solomones. Now I think he might try to reinforce India - or even invade Koepang and other locations in the area.
This is one of my weaker areas indeed!

Why are your pete's attacking at 100 ft? I doubt they would be skip bombing so if you give them a bit of altitude you may actually get a hit. Puny but it will be on a transport.

Where are your weakest areas? This is where he will most probably try to divert your Indian focus.

Are the Aleutians subject to any bad-weather rules at all in June? The "cold" rules apply only from December to March, no? Or are you saying that the North Pacific just generally gets worse weather (Thunderstorms etc)?

BBBF - the Pete's are pretty experienced, should be able to skip bomb. Just nuisance raids anyway.
If I spot any major Allied tf's in the area, the alarm will sound. I still don't know were Wobbly got his cv's.

I got most of my forces in India, Burma, China, the Central and South Pacific. The left flank based on DEI doesn't hold a lot of troops, but I have large aviation regiments in key bases.
Kendari is my major stronghold together with Singapore. I actually turned back a convoy heading from Kendari to towards Truk when I spotted Allied ships north of Oz.

Wobbly can cause me trouble in this area, but he would need to ferry a lot of supplies and fuel to northern Oz to strike from here. No major ports to perform repairs in either.
So if he goes for a 'flank attack' - I will counter with carriers from Singapore and Truk together with numberous naval bombers and Zeros based from Palembang and down to Kendari.
A counter invasion fleet will immediately sail from Truk carrying up to 2 div's + support. This should be sufficient to slow his advance to a crawl... I'm NOT going to divert anything from
the Indian campaign before I've either captured Karachi or been decisively halted.

Let the Kiwi come to me, then we'll fight on my home turf...!

Grotius: you would have to check other threads for accurate info on the Aleutians. I think Raver did a number on this in the game against Bananarama...Didn't gain much from it though.
Al would surely surprise me if he came in this way, but I just don't think there's much to achive in this area. I got a lot of troops in Japan, so an invasion is out of the question.
