Sorry no, as was shown not long ago Naval search with torpedo loaded planes will not result in hits.

They won't hit with torpedoes but they will hit with bombs which is a lot better than hitting with nothing.

Unfortunately patrol bombing doesn't work well against Uber CAPs.
Losses are horrible and hits are few and doesn't inflict much damage.
Tried this back in time with disappointing results - and my Army bombers were a lot
more experienced then what they're now.

So WitP leaves Japan quite impotent by mid 45...no suicide weapons that work, no special
attack units and not enough coordination between air units to counter Uber CAP by Corsairs.

I have enough reserves for one more prolonged campaign, so let's save the pennies until we
can hit the jackpot.

Yamato is stuck again, still 27 sys damage. Struggling to get the Fuso and Kongo down from 12 and 11 sys.
It is more frustrating that watching paint dry....

I think compared to real life the game made Japan quite POTENT at this time...

Hmm, AFAIK testing some weeks ago showed that TB on ASW do work as torpedos are swapped
to bombs. On naval search torpedos are not swapped and therfore TB hit nothing on NS. Will have to check on the board.

didn´t VSWG say that he saw Nells hitting subs with bombs? I´m one of those who also believes that aircraft with a torp as standard load never hit subs with bombs. At least I can´t remember even one succesful attack from a Betty or Nell on a sub...

Japan may be more potent in defense now than compared to RL - but then again - I've been
able to do a little better than history to make up for it. Offensively Japan is actually less potent
than in 45 RL. In the Iwo and Okinawa campaigns large number of US ships and carriers suffered serious
damage from kamikaze attacks. This I can't replicate and my still sizable LBA can't be brought into action en masse.

Today Andy sent in long range 4E anti ship bombers - and oh boy they could score hits....
Was trying to 'smuggle' troops into Amami without making much fuss about it. Weather has been T-storms all week,
so it's amazing that all these ac managed to attack AM/PM today... As soon as Andy gets a new base
next to Naha it will become all but impossible to bring in further reinforcements.

Provided 60 Shindens and 70 other CAP fighters for the remaining ships today.
The Combined Fleet is also put on alert together with LBA. An enemy intervention will have to get past a number
of obstacles to get to the last transports.

I want 2000+ assault points on Amamai - that means that another 500-1000 can be brought in by air and sea if an invasion
is launched. Still not enough against 8000, but it's an atoll and could cause a lot of enemy casualties.
I'm also reinforcing other potential weak spots, but it's impossible to cover them all I'm afraid.

The major reinforcement effort for Amami has been successful: Up to 1440 AP already
and more to come. Further reinforcements will be sent to Ikutsuki and the Home Islands.
Further reinforcements and supplies to Kadina and Naha will be sent from Amami by single AK
and hundreds of barges. It's too dangerous to send larger TFs to these islands now as Andy
has parked is invulnerable cv's in the atoll he's building from size 0.

I need a mobile reserve and an airborne reserve. The latter I'm planning to create out of
the Mongol Cavalry Divisions. The soldiers (not horses I hope) can be airlifted rapidly and
the units are cheap to release and got high exp by now.

All the way from Java my Emily flying boats are bringing in rebuilt Engineers, paras and other
units. They're first flown to China and from there to their final destination.

Only bases very close to the Home Islands are really eligible for reinforcements as I'm 100% sure
that Andy will bypass the rest and land on my doorstep next time.

More air strikes against Okinawas - Amami is left alone. Up to 1778 AP here now and 44k supplies.
Will try to bring in 75k supplies and then maintain it while sending barges to Naha and Kadina.

Not a lot of meaningful things to do, everything is happening on such a massive scale, both in the air,
on the seas and on the ground.

Almost 2000 AP at Amami by now - Andy is getting more daring but we're still relative safe.
The only annoying thing is B-29s on naval search that score lots of hits.

Checked with the Air Force - we got some 2000 operational fighters and 2000 operational fighter bombers, dive bombers,
torpedo bombers and medium bombers.

Surface Fleet status:

1 carrier
5 battleships (3 operational)
1 CS (not operational)
3 heavy cruisers
4 light cruisers (3 operational)
13 destroyers

The Taiho is now operating as a raider with 1 destroyer escort.
Only a handful of the destroyers are first line fleet destroyers. Most are new low budget types or old
hands only useful as short range escorts. The Yamato can steam at 20 knots, enough for our purposes.
Within a month I hope to gather most units for defensive operations.

The remaining ships will most likely be divided into 1 or 2 Task Forces depending on type of mission:

Battle line:

3 BB
2 CA
2 CL
8 DD

Escort screen:

1 CA
1 CL
4 DD

Raider TF:

1 CV
1 DD

It's heating up but we're still managing reasonably well.
Last troop transports unloading at Amami today - this is such an important base that we really have to make
it a super strong bastion.

Andy still hasn't managed to make Ishieak into a size 1 AF - it really takes time despite all the men
he's put to work. That's perfect. In Nagasaki cadre units are rebuilding and in a few months we will have
a new Army put together from rebuilds.

It's mostly like taunting the bull Fish, every move will be met with a counter move that is 5 times stronger.
We have to use our sparse resources wisely and circle around the bull and know when to step back.
I'm keeping our fleet under a powerful umbrella of Shindens and only send them out when necessary.

10 enemy destroyers came to Amami today, but we kept them away from our transports.
Amami is now up to 2330 AP - we've brought in more than 1500 AP over the last 4 days. If Andy had known this
I'm sure he would have sent 10 carriers and made short process.

My defensive goal is to damage as many enemy ships as possible with as little cost to ourself as possible.
Every ship that has to stay home during the next offensive is a bonus.

A quiet but good turn. Allies won't get anymore ships by now, so every ship we sink or cripple
is out of the game without replacements.

Ship yard repairs are veery sloow. Only destroyers are repaired at anything near
a satisfactory rate.

Not a dud, the screenshot depicts the torpedo hit. A dud makes a disappointing puff of smoke.
Also, I have yet to see a CVE suck in a torpedo without secondary damage. I think I may have seen a torpedo hit, penetrate (of course, but just to illustrate it's not a dud) and then do no secondary damage whatsoever back in UV, maybe once or twice, on high durability ships. Anyone?

I know it wasn't the best torp hits - no explosions - but still, sys damage is usually in the range from 10-30 which
isn't enough to display heavy or fire damage.

Andy sent several more destroyers and a light cruiser to intercept our barges and some transports today.
I've dispatched more troops including parts of the Imp division, fortunately they got away except one torpedoed transport.

Enemy B-29s on naval search are veery annoying. They have a tremendous range - and if they only spotted it would be ok - but
they also hit many of the ships they spot, even barges are precision bombed. We got a rule against B-29s on naval attack, and personally I consider naval search as secondary naval attack missions. What do you think guys, should I live with this or kindly ask Andy to use his B-29s for strategic bombing?

I think it is alright.
WitP has no way to simulate the minelaying mayhem that historically occured. I think this is a cheap price to pay so Andy can actually enjoy something comparable, even though it is on a smaller scale...

Well time will tell, what do you think about it people?

B-29s haven't been used for naval search before, it's something new...both in this game and in regards to WWII.

From this link: http://ww2db.com/aircraft_spec.php?aircraft_model_id=B42
I found that

"In WW2, B-29 bombers were used exclusively by the United States Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater.

After the war, B-29 Superfortress bombers remained in service with the newly created United States Air Force through subsequent conflicts such as the Korean War. In that conflict, the changing nature of war reduced the number of strategic targets for B-29 bombers to strike and Soviet fighter innovations (namely, the MiG-15 jet fighter designed specifically to combat B-29 bombers) restricted the usefulness of these bombers. The US Navy also employed four of them, but they were restricted to long range search missions only."

This indicates that only 4 B-29s were used for naval search - and that was after the war if I interpret it correctly.
You could say that using B-29s as naval search bombers would compensate for mine laying bug - but then there should be limits for how many B-29s can be on naval search. Increase the numbers and everything afloat between Luzon and Tokyo will be hit
I'm also having problems seeing how B-29s can hit barges with bombs....

I may add, PzB, that your document is referring to the Korean War, not the WW2 :)

But I seriousely doubt they were used for search missions by the way. The Korean War B-29 were used for search & rescue stuff, with flares, a boat in the bomb bay, etc..., not for naval search (well looking for the DPRK navy would be somethin' )

The article is general history of B-29s. It states that they were only used by the USAAF in WWII and that first after WWII - in the Korean War - 5 examples were used by the USNAAF as search planes! I just left the Korean stuff to keep some context.

I will keep an eye on how many ships are hit by B-29s on search missions in the time to come, if the number becomes to wild I'll consider
talking to Andy. As long as this search bombing doesn't reach completely silly levels I can live with it. Over the last few days I feel that there have been a bit too many hits. Using B-24s may be just as good as using B-29s if you ask me

In fierce surface battles we took on no less than 27 enemy destroyers, 3 anti aircraft cruisers
and 3 super battleships including the Iowa with only 6 destroyers and 4 cruisers!

We lost 1 destroyer to enemy fire, 1 to enemy sub attack after being damaged in battle, as well as 4 crippled
destroyers that will make it back home. Our cruisers are all undamaged. 10 transports, 4 MSW and 4 barges were also sunk
including 2000 troop casualties. Still we have managed to unload 80% of the Elite Imperial Guards Division and more supplies.
Currently there are 2500+ assault points on Amami, including 800 engineers that completely fixed all damaged caused by 70 B-29s today.

In a bloody air attack 75 B-29s escorted by no less than 118 Mustangs came over Amami.
42 Mustangs and 3 B-29s were shot down for the cost of 48 friendly fighters. This is quite a feat! We also shot down 9 Avengers and 4 Helldivers today. Again most of our pilots survived and I was able to rotate units out and assign replacement ac immediately.

Even more amazingly, we sank 6 enemy fleet destroyers (1 by naval air after the battle), damaged 5-6 others and landed hits on a dozen more enemy ships including the Iowa. The brute enemy battle wagons were not able to land any 16" shells on anything except a barge

BONSAI!! This must be the greatest feat in a David vs Goliath battle I've ever seen!
Fighting on friendly turf close to our homeland we are able to inflict more damage to the enemy than we get back
despite the horrible odds.

Now we only got 4 operational destroyers, but it is our cruisers that is our best asset.
Only enemy Cleveland and heavy cruisers are efficient against them, and they are fortunately in short supply.

Results of todays battles!

We can now freely distribute supplies and troops from Amami using barges and air transports.
Enemy action can only inflict relatively little damage while risking serious damage to own major combatants.

Sorry no, as was shown not long ago Naval search with torpedo loaded planes will not result in hits.

This is not completly true. I had a PBY get a hit during Naval Search - just about blew me out of my chair. I do not know how much damage was done.

Oh boy, kind of reminds me of old PzB. Not the one that lost KB off NG. The one before him
I can only imagine how great that felt for you if I got a kick out of it.
Keep up the good work, and no mercy to the enemy. Our fighting spirit will make them plead for peace on the ruins of Capitol Hill! BONSAI!!!
