Have you ascertained if the Shinden production in Harbin is in fact halted?  The Soviet troops there may not be seen as hostile by the program.

This is a bit difficult. I have actually halted quite a few Shinden factories to prioritize production
of other ac types as Mitsubishi engine production is lower than the amount of ac that can be produced each month using Mitsu engines.

When production of frames is higher than the number of engines available I have no idea of knowing were the cuts will be made.
Only by matching number of frames produced with number of available engines is it possible to achieve this. Earlier I produced 160 Topsy frames per month but received almost no one.

Very little control over production in this area and a lot of room for improvements.

Little activity - enemy is rebuilding.
So are we. Number of fighters for protection of Home Islands is slowly increasing back towards 2000.
Will disperse them among the most important bases. If attrition becomes to high they will move further east
out of enemy fighter range.

Continuing to move resources and supplies to the Home Islands - little else to do now but wait.

I went back a pile of pages - but couldn't find what I was looking for - so briefly - how did you stall the Soviets, eh? I figured they would have over run things "to the East" by now!?

They did not stall..........they placed Manchuria basically inactive when PZB got hit by a bug. No airstrikes would launch against the Soviets. It is way back on page 149 where the bug first strikes.

You may want to check that out.

Andy is now moving the Red Army out of Harbin. I've halted offensive actions against Vladivostok as I don't want to take
advantage of the situation.

Nothing but protracted bombings and last ditch defense left in this game now.
Will be 3.5 long long months.

As Allies you just hang on in 41-42 because you know things will get better.
As Japan it's the other way around - things will only get worse.
This makes is so much more demanding to play Japan to the bitter end.

More of the same. Bad weather grounded Amami today, but of course no 4E strikes
LCU strength in Home Islands is now substantial and growing. The evacuated units from all over the Empire + the
defeated garrisons are slowly being rebuilt and adds to the strength.

In India Bombay is bombed and Andy has to take care of some isolated Jap units behind the lines.
Karachi got ca 1100 AV in total and cannot run out of supplies.

LBA strength is approaching 500 ac - got ca 120 Frances in the pools.
Will try to rebuild back to full strength again. Need some offensive fire power.

Lots of B-29 levels Kitakyushu. No way to protect all Home Island bases since CAP only responds to
attack over their own bases instead of bases within their own radius when alerted by radar.

So this is how it will be for 3.5 months. Can't say there's much to look forward to.
Will try to rebuild the AF and pose a counter attack threat to Andy. Especially Amami, 18 CAP fighters
there today and I bet the atoll is crammed with 400 ac. A 500 strong LBA attack would cause some carnage.

As soon as they ramp up the damage of night attacks again, people will switch to night attacks only as they won´t face much Cap or ineffective Cap. IMO it was a good idea to reduce the effects of night bombing. If it gets increased again, then there should be only special sqadrons be allowed to do night attacks.

Anyway in real life, I seriousely doubt you could expect to achieve anything impressive in a night attack with 25 Myrt, actually

Jap night bombers disrupted B-29 bases in the Marianas destroying many and damaging even more ac.
These were minor disruption raids and they did keep the crews awake at night.

I used only high exp Myrts - these are special night fighter/bombers - crew exp avg = 75.
High exp crews should be able to cause a certain minimum of damage and a little disruption.
My 25 FBs only managed to destroy themselves - didn't even create runway craters

It's a complete waste however, unless specialist night fighter/bomber units are improved you may as well not produce them.
The problem is that the ability to cause damage in WitP is either way to high or non existing

Rebuilding continues...1700 fighters and 550 LBA ready for action.
Will try to train some Army units to 50 exp to increase efficiency.

It is possible that Andy will bomb Kyushu to cinders, but not much to do about it really.
If we waste our fighters against enemy land based fighters the rest of the Home Islands will
lay open to attack.

A killer of a turn and despite heavy losses I'm satisfied.
In the long term such battles will be phyrric victories - but for as long as we can afford it it's a point and morale booster

We loose our second best pilot, he goes missing with 30 kills. Our top ace is still active.

As a bonus: Enemy convoy is shattered by our LBA

Wow! Great job. I didn't do a accurate count, but it seems you actually beat him in Air to Air numbers. And that was against his best planes. I was a little dissapointed to see the Corsairs escape. But the Tbolts took it on the chin.

He has a large number of aircraft on Amami. And they all seem to be in escort mode. I wonder what his CAP is like? Can it be that strong? Could you do a daylight airfield raid and catch some of those planes on the ground? Also, doesn't craters on the run way increase the number of his Op losses?

Anyway, those Shindens are something else. The Jap answer to the fighter that shall not be named. (even though I said its name earlier in the post, but I like the idea of a Voldemort fighter.)

I'm not trying to engage enemy LBA fighters - but it is reassuring that we can meet the best on even terms over our own soil.
Enemy CAP over Amami varies between 0 and 150 fighters. Sending in all our LBA would be too dangerous and the gains pitiful.
With 250k enemy troops on the island and just as many supplies any damage would be fixed in 0.0 seconds as well

So we stay on the defensive and each time there is an opening, like yesterday, we sting back!
No openings today - enemy defenses are always at their best after bad days.

An enemy carrier TF is heading east from Luzon again - probably to bring more fighters into the fray.
The little atoll of Ishieak has also finally been increased to AF size 2. That took a long long time

Andy's been busy testing for AE - so no turns in a while.
Of course in the days I was home sick with little to do

Anyway, not much to do in the game.
Loads of enemy bombers all over the place while we husband our slender resources.
Since WitP isn't giving Japan any new toys after VJ Day the game slowly dies out for
the Jap player. Looking at my HA class subs that are sitting stuck in the build queue with
1 day to go that will never arrive because no Jap radar sets are produced....

Otherwise I'm creating a barge shuttle from Karachi to Bombay.
Will transfer as many supplies as possible. Bombay will most likely fall, but it's not worth that
much and the only important thing is to prevent its fall well into 46.

I notice no attacks against the Home Islands. Your last air battle there must have really stung him good.

Andy has a lot of LBA fighters, but it's possible that he need to rotate units and repair damaged ac
before he's ready to strike again - with carrier sweeps.

No turns from Andy since Monday, resent the turn but not heard anything.

Finally a turn, almost 5th wartime Christmas...

Thx Dekwik, but winning is preferable to fighting to the end

Enemy is moving lots of shipping and bombing at will.
Empire is not able to do much more than hang on.

I read that Stalin had ordered an invasion of Hokkaido but this was canceled as the war came to an end.
Uncle Sam was really annoying with himself for signing up Uncle Joe at Jalta

The only Soviet amph landings in the Kuriles cost a lot of casualties as the inexperienced landing troops
splashed ashore. The last kamikaze sortie of the war was reported to take place here on the 20th of August 45
as a Soviet escort destroyer was hit.

Also read that a 3rd nuke would have been delivered before Xmas 45 if the war hadn't ended.
Tokyo would most likely have been targeted.

If Uncle Joe had been able to run wild in this game the situation would have been pretty similar.
Convinced that we could have put up a better and longer lasting defense though, quality of our troops are better
than what the Japs had in Manchukuo in 45.

Me also thinks some big guns have been left out in WitP.
In Manchukuo the Japs built their strongest fortifications around "Hutou" (known as Tigers head) and referred to it as their "Maginot Line". The whole system was almost 5 miles wide and four deep, supported by some of the heaviest artillery in Asia, including 240mm Krupp guns and a 410mm howitzer."

I certainly have't found any 410mm howitzers among my defenses

I also think that it should be possible to build fortified regions and not simply have LCU's build fort levels that
disappear when the units move.
