Well, calling it a T-6 is a bit of a simplifcation. Here is a good history of the wirraway.

Good story And it tells us that WitP simulate this aircraft well. So I will send all my Wirraway's to Perth and let them hunt for sharks until upgrades are available

The only thing wirraways are useful for is 100ft attacks on barges and transports. They are useless for everything else. But against barges they are both accurate and quite stirdy.

To bad you cant upgrade them to P39.

Might as well spot your opponent a few dozen points rather than using those pieces of ****.

They are quite possibly the most useless plane in the game. Its a shame you cant upgrade them to Hurricanes or P-39's

Really ? Worse than Buffalos ? I find that hard to believe... I've hard 6 zeros wipe out 15+ Buffalos before...

It must be on the field

If those Buffalos have some experience they can hold out a while.

Of course, the upgrade path should be to Boomerangs.

And thereby hangs an interesting tale.

A couple of years ago a friend and I were in Melbourne (he'd never seen it, and I'd told him it was a hole, compared to Sydney ... he didn't believe me so we went down, and now he agrees and we went down to the RAAF museum where they had a display on the Boomerang.

According to the details it was designed in an incredibly short space of time, c. 2-3 months, IIRC, from Wirraway components, mainly ... which is amazing enough in and of itself.

The *really* strange thing was that it was designed by an Austrian or German refugee (forget whether he was Jewish or merely "political") who was classed as an "enemy alien" and had to report to the local Police Station daily

I doubt anyone can top *that* story of weird aircraft origins

Phil

From reading this - http://www.australianwarbirds.com.au/survivors.htm - it seems like this plane might be better modelled as a Recon or maybe even a Transport plane! Much like the Lysander "fighter bomber" ...

Incidentally, why do we have the different plane types at all? Wouldn't it be better to have a more comprehensive set of missions and doctrines instead? Number of engines and loadouts could still be considered.

After developing such a plane… he came away very good with only reporting to the local police
