Two enemy destroyers hit mines at Amboina. I wonder what they were doing there. The enemy barge convoy supplying Shortlands did not make it tonight.
It would also be of interest to know if the enemy is reinforcing Mytkivina, or (more likely) decreasing his forces on the town

The answer to the Mytkivina question is now clear. Enemy troops are withdrawing from Mytkivina, coming under harrassing fire from allied dive bombers.
Amboina is slowly coming round; the airfield is now functional, although there is still 30% damage in the service areas of the aerodrome. Aircraft will soon be deployed there.
New offenssive operation, in particular operation Dumbstick are planned for the inmediate future.
Heavy reinforcements have arrived to Australia, and preparations are in course to deploy them offenssively, and finally expel the Japanese forces from the SW Pacific.

A sortie by reported cruisers has occurred in the Marshalls. Since what is reported as cruisers is usually a carrier TF, we strongly suspect these are actually carriers trying a show of force. They cannot hurt us in the Marshalls, but we shall keep an eye on them.

This time the recon piolets were right. The cruisers were actually cruisers and 4 battleships including the Musashi, that were paying a courtesy visit to Mili. One of our B25s dropped an egg on one of the Musashi, with just about the same effect as if it had been a chicken
Operation Dumbstick has had it's name changed to Drumstick by some starving intelligence type

In a surprise attack, allied forces have freed Medang in New Guinea. An important base, with large airfields it will serve as a stepping stone for the liberation of the Philippines.
We have been informed that the allied air forces had been bombing Lae for a while, in an effort to deceive the enemy. Indeed there were large enemy forces stationed at Lae, and only a few units at Medang. With scanty air preparation, except for bombing airfields, the allied invasion fleet bypassed Lae, and landed at Medang, where the base fell in three days. Allied engineers are even now repairing the airfields to be ready for the next operation.

The enemy "carrier" force that was suspected to be operating in the vicinity of Medang turned out to be a minelaying force that took to its screws before the invasion fleet. The blind recon pilots had originally reported it as heavy cruisers, which means carriers of course.....

Those plane losses explain why he is only getting handfuls of planes in the air on CAP...ouch!

Actually, if you refer to allies, the only reason why there are so few aircraft on CAP at Akyab is becasue they are on long range Cap. I have gobs of P40s, F4Fs, Hurricanes or Spits, but they don't have the legs to protect Akyab. Due to the very heavy daily bombing of Akyab, runway damage is 99.
Until such time as more P38s can be spared, and additional 4 engine bombers can be tasked to the Burma theater, I cannot attempt to reopen Akyab. Incidentally, and Warspite knows this, until Akyab airfield is operational again, I cannot assume an offensive stance in Burma. That's probably why he spends such resources in plowing up the runway daily.

I am currently using 4E bombers in Burma, intermitently, and ineffectively hitting Rangoon airfield. In the DEIs, they have shut down Kendari AF, and in NG/Solomons, they have been used to shut down Lae and Rabaul AFs.
I also have a B24 wing out of Midway, bombing Wake, withoutr much effect. He moved some Nicks to Wake, so I have been resting the heavies.
There are also some PBY Liberators in the Marshalls, and also in Wake doing harassing bombing runs, more for nuisance effect thatn nything else.

Okay - that makes sense.

So to go back to Sneer's original question, which aircraft have you had the largest losses?

Thanks -
