relatively quiet day.
I wonder why he keeps bombing Akyab. By now he's just interfering with the Burma rice harvest.

Allied frustration with the shuttle of barges supplying Torokina and Shortlands has reached its peak. Repetitive mining operations failed to interrupt the constant supply trains. Submarines and airplanes have been ineffective, so a more massive attempt was made with BB Indiana and a few cruisers. Some barges were destroyed, but the capital ships came under heavy air attack from Rabaul. BB Indiana did not survive the hecatomb.
On the plus side Goodenough island and Bull retaken.

B25s jump a BB TF just off Rabaul. BB Yamashiro gets hit by 2 bombs, but only damage is to an AA mount; Mutsu also gets hit by 2 1000Kgs, but no effect. SS Shad also torpedoes a tanker in the S. China Sea; TK Nichiei Maru gets torpedoed, and is found to be loaded with oil, which burns merrily.

I am going to start a major reshuffling of the cargo ships in the Pacific. They are dispersed all over the place!. I plan to use the largest (7200 AKs) to do the San Francisco run. The 7000K size ships will do the mid distance regional runs, and the 4000K will shuttle suplies (and sometimes troops) around the front areas. The smaller ships should (hopefully) unload faster at dangerous places.
It will take a while to get things organized though

2/2/43 It appears that the prolonged pounding of Kendari airfield has finally yielded some effects. for the last three days the B17s bombing Kendari encountered no opposition. Today the reformed Carrier Task Force 1 raided Kendari port, scoring a hit on a parked transport. (This was meant as a training exercise for the piolets). Also a cruiser TF from Rabaul bombarded Kiriwina Is airfield, and hauled a$$ around the Rabaul Is.
