The convoy to lautern goes in!

A very good day today!
yet more troops at moulmien -he bombards, I bombard, but I aint coming out of my holes

63 P38 from Thursday island sweep Lea -18 zeros shoot down 7 for 11 lost
39 B17 attack Buna -and 38 tojo shoot down 4 for 2 losses
90 heavies hit Gilli, gilli -its been ages since he bombed PNG

In the home islands yamato and Shokaka rejoin the fleet!

3 ops in place today
a very, very large convoy is moving into Lea -and KB is capping it -I am going to pull out 2 divisions of troops

Convoy into lautern will arrive tomorrow, under a LRCAP from 3 Cvs
Another large convoy approaches shortlands

And 1 div, 4 south sea detachments are loaded, and are headed towards siapan.

I would love to move KB, but it is tied to rabual -my last major fuel depot.

major convoy battle off tokyo -I have 20 tankers left -so each one is very heavily protected.
SS are sunk, asw assets are sunk, its a nasty battle.

Still the enemy lands at moulmien, he pounds it with LBA every day -I am still AV ahead though.
haipong fell.
Vietnam is going fast
traitors did not join the empire!

tabpubs planes attack the lautern convoy
25 zekes , 17 am3 take on 11 brewsters, 11 medium bombers -and shoot down 14 planes for no loss
22 kittyhawks, 11 demon escort 5 avengers, i lose 17 planes to his 7

91 mitchell attack the ships -plus beufighters and B 17s, they hit 9 aks for little loss.
terrible!.
many troops lost, but I will move in fighters tomorrow, the field will be operational!

Allies shock at rahaeng!!! -1 div , 1 tank regiment crossing the river.
It suffers 3000 casos!

My plan is simple -this attack is pretty unco ordinated so far, I will stay and fight on the river.
troops headed to the fronts.
The trick will be to hang on until the last moment, then we begin the long march south I suppose.

In the solomons I am loading a lot of troops, to davao they will go -my reserve for wherever the BIG THRUST will come.

tabpub writes that he was surprised about the bashing today gives him!

Still he unloads a trickle of troops at moulmien, my AV is still bigger than him, I am being careful -tavoy and Vic point are very well garrisoned, no cutting me off.
The battle over lautern is bloody -31 zeke, 8 tony, 8 zeros vs 30 odd fighters -i lose 4 to 20

Then 53 p 38 take on my tojos over buna -I lose 7 to his 13
This is OK -my 2 tojo units actually have nearly 40 70 plus pilots in each unit -so I will stay and fight for a while yet

36 B17 attack, and the tojos took out 8
87 heavies hit Gilli, gilli.

A good day in the air -I lost 23 to his 51 today.
Troops ashore lautern, loading at lea, more approaching siagon

Its very good being able to move troops with out interference like this near the fronts.

lautern op over, I pull out

Lea convoy still loading, as is shortlands
Another shock attack at rahaeg -tabpub cannot seem to get his troops to march together -this attack also suffers 3000 casos.

Shokaka sails south, yamato need s an upgrade -Im going to leave her home for a while longer.

If I can hold the burma front for 1 more week -90000 extra men will become available there.

i am confident still!

The british battleships pound moulmien, casos begin to mount, and his troops keep on coming ashore.
Over 100 fighter bombers hit the place as well.
Heavies hit rahaeg.

He busts barrges today at lunga -ouch.
24 liberators attack Canton, 17 leaker Tonies intercept, shoot down 5 liberators

Then follows the bombing of Kwal, Malelop, Milne bay, Port moresby, rahaeg, Moulmien, lunga, tavoy -its bomb, bomb, bomb.

At least 2 more british divisions landed today, his AV is 1423, to my 1524.
With 9 forts Im going to hang on a bit longer.

Few new orders given today -KB arrives rabual to refuel.

Another day, almost a repeat of yesterday.
A bit of air action over Buna today, I lose 7 tojo.
he sweeps canton with 40 p40, and knocks 2 tony down, and loses 3

He bombards moulmien, and his bombers keep on hitting the usual suspects.

Few orders today again, 1 naval guard, 1st to 5th south sea detachments arrive at siagon, as the 33rd div is already there, they will go to bangkok, another div soon to land at songhlia

troops still unloading at moulmien
he just keeps on bombarding and bombing all around the map -but no real action to report, the convoys keep sailing, the zekes keep flowing, and Shokaka and yamato sail south at last.

really the game is quite dull at the moment -I have a lot of troops that were in the solomons now headed to davao -from there they will go to Burma.
Im beginging to believe that Tabpub has no intention of trying for the PNG coast or the solomons.

Gawd this game is patience testing!

I have ordered the troops at moulmien to march south - they rest at 46 miles covered -let him attack a couple of times, and when the forts come down we can march to Tavoy -where more size 9 forts, and 2 fresh divisions await.
he attacks canton heavily in the air, and my tonies suffer badly, all the rookies go.
Judys are arriving!, 5 per day!

I reconstitute the tonies at hongkong, lets see how some crack pilots go!

I have made a radical decision.
Its september.
This means even with only light resistance the rabual, Lea line will still be in plave by end of October at tabpub pace -which is very satisfactory.
In a few days Thursday will be size 4, and I will lose the air war over PNG quickly.
For what?
A few malaria bases.
The next line is palua, truk, ponape,, Biak.
This has to be held until mid 44
At this rate it can be, tabpub is oh so slow.
I feel his main thrust is Burma, and this is so dangerous, I need the oil for as long as possible, as I have no reserves.

therefore, what troops that are in the solomons -mainly SNLF, base force troops now, are abandoned to their fate.
The planes pull out, headed to the centre of the map -a reserve of pilots for the new planes mid 44.
KB and the fleet depart for davao as well.

It looks like its the british that will be the main battle for me -tabpub , Ive given you the solomons, they have held you at bay for long enough!

The pounding of moulmien continues, massive strikes today.
The pounding of kwajalien continues as well -not long to go there and I think an invasion must arrive

9 oscars at bangkok fail to slow 9 wellingtons -2 ak hit

His 1st deliberate attack is a 0 to 1 at moulmien -but bad news, it inflicts far more casualties on me than him -this means only 1 thing.
I order the retreat for all units.

Down in the solomons its a slow process of pulling out the air groups and getting them going north and north west.
Token units to remain behind

A division begins unloading at songkhla

Im studying how I will use my air in burma - I need to think how to cover my battlefleet for the battle of tavoy, which the way tabpub plays, will be next.
he loses 2 pts to mines at lunga
6 betties give 2 BBs a fright of kwaj, but miss
the invasion is arriving there -cvls reveal themselves with air strikes

6 alf attack shipping near rennell, corsairs kil 4, but a DD wears 2 bombs.

Im pulling out of moulmien -the damage is too much.

the great re orientation continues of my air power 9power -what a joke)
Oil levels reach les than 300000 for the empire!

How I am going to fuel the fleet at Singapore is a problem I do not want to think about!

as we end the month I think his claims of a massive attack somewhere were a bluff -the nibbling under massive LBA continues

Moulmien is abandoned, the troops struck hard on the road by wave after wave of bombers.

Thursday island size 4 -I am out of there just in time i think -one last convoy into buna with supplies for a long time -if they get in, and i hope the weather is kind.

Thursday island springs into action - a raid against wewak.
66 p38 vs 58 tojo enroute to the north

8 p38 s/d for 31 tojo destroyed -they are wrecked as a fighter force now.
Buna is hammered, a big convoy is terribly hit, 10 AK are going to be lost, and a irreplacable DD
the invasion of Kwajelien begins, 2 marines, another div attack 1 to 1, forts to 8

I check the troop numbers, 1000 soldiers if Im lucky.

My army is into tavoy 9mostly)
troops from the south beginging to arrive in dribs and drabs at siagon, will they be enough?
Tabpub tries a deliberate at rahaeng, and gets a bloody nose -i may be in retreat to the west, here Im decidely staying until thrown out!

The invasion at kwaj so far sees 3 dd, 1de, 3 lst 4 lci burning off the beaches.

I distinctly feel tabpub dislikes amphib assualts, and will be happy to come down the burma way.
The fleet is oh so slow at the moment, still crawling along the PNG north coast, although now some of the air units, especially the betties, are coming into the malaya, burma theatre.
lets see if we can pot a couple of his BBs when they visit tavoy.

computer problems, may be on hold for a while.

an empty moulmien falls today, and so does Kwajelien.
double blows to the empire

paras take an empty Luang Prabang in north west Vietnam, and troops begin marching into the interior of vietnam from hanoi.

Little else to report, Im still moving all my planes and ships half way across the world.
Grrrrrrr

3rd and 4th of the 9th

2 days of posting, as they were almost the same

I tried to get a convoy into Buna -without aircover it was smashed -and I mean smashed.
Thursday island is now a deadly area.

Most of the fleet is at davao, or nearing it
The airforce is still being re deployed -a lot of planes are upgrading to zekes now, and judys as well.
I am going to hide the air until iether tavoy or sabang or vic point is attacked.
Yamato joins mushia today -something to smile about, i give these 2 BBs about 1 month left to live -they will be the main weapon of choice against his BBs -especially the POW.

He is just bombing, and bombing so much, its pretty boring -nothing that most japanese players are'nt used to by this stage of the war.

At least I still have a fleet to play with still -no petrol for it mind you, but at least i have something to push about the map

Another day of the usual bombing today
rahaeng
tavoy
Lea
luatern
Lunga
Gilli, gilli
Geting a bit weary of liberators flying from australia sinking transports in the sea north of lea
Oh well.
CA Kumano limping home is hit by 2 torps today -99 syatem -15 flood, 3 fires
might even get her home yet
In Vietnam tabpub is sending troops down the trail from hanoi -not the rail line
I see an opportunity here, 2 divisions are now available in central vietnam, plus engineers and heavy art.
Plus even a few army bombers when the moment is right.

Im still pushing the fleet hard towards singapore, I need a week!!!
have to admit, tabpub sure moves like a glacier -but have you ever tried to stop one coming down the hill

6/9/43

probably the most interesting turn for ages for me
Oh, the usual bombing everywhere

But
a naval bombardment of tavoy, and a heavy raid on vic point
now just a single enemy unit has come down the road towards tavoy, and moulmien appears to be empty???
i will recon same tomorrow

I am gambling -i feel a invasion of vic point is on the cards -and tavoy is going to be bypassed

So today i sent 2 of the 4 divisions there to join the 1 at vic point, and i sent 2 north -plus tanks -im counter attacking back up the road, at the least it might cause tabpub to turn arounfd the army at rangoon
I need 1 week, and then the fleet will be in position to attack a landing
If I get a week, a landing at Vic point or sabang would be the ideal thing for me!

So, its a radical plan for mid 43/late 43 -counter attack!
Troops continue to arrive in the theatre from the south east.
while Im sure tabpub is confident of "singapore before 44", i have other ideas, and Im confident some one is going to get hurt!

This aussie has only just begun to fight!!

tabpub reports he has noticed the greatly reduced air presence in the solomons............
In the java sea one of his ss attacks the CVE task group -cve not spotted though

the bombing in burma and the solomons area continues, and continues
I count my divisions today -nearly 12 full divisions are commited, or being committed to the burma/vietnam front.
Although the solomons are greatly reduced, no base can be taken without a fight -probably a division to 3 needed for each one.
So, lets see what happens when tabpub crawls up the chain -I expect a pretty slow, steady advance..
i have made some rash get supplys into buna/lea runs -expensive in APs and aks -but supply levels will now be good enough to make a fight of PNG .

8/9/43
A really bad day, but I was lucky too.
Multiple SS attacks on my carriers in the java sea, not all spotted, but the jig is up for a surprise attack
At least none were hit.
My air[power is awaiting the ships, and several units that upgraded enroute to zekes.
I was wrong about moulmien -its still heavily occupied, but I stick to the plan.
I must be careful, vic point would be a good place to stop a amphib attack -but a terribly easy place to get cut off in.

And finally, finally, an invasion fleet is headed towards lunga.
In one way Im dissapointed, this is the second game i have slaved and waited for my favorite scenerio -fighting up the chain, only to abandon the islands.
But I have to face facts -losing the solomons will not hurt me economically, losing malaya will destroy me.
Thus the re deployment.
I want to hurt the british fleet, stabalise the front, then turn the fleet around for the defence of the inner ring.
my Cvs are no longer able to operate offensively against his death stars, but against the british fleet, I feel I still have a chance.

I move some forces into the solomons from truk, lets keep tabpub guessing...........

tabpub bombards lunga -his navy returns
a very ineffective bombardment though -and CL honolulu is hit 28 times in return

3 and then 4 sallies attack his Cvs -106 wildcats, 37 hellcats, 9 corsairs CAP.
lets hope he thinks that was a probe

Troops unloading camrah bay, more in malaya.
The CVs were not attacked today, still need a week to get the fleet into position.

In the solomons 100 supa sonias are deploying to the attack -escorted by 40 odd fantastic oscars
should be more than enough to "eliminate the enemy bridghead no later than midday"

i am though pinning a lot of faith on some night attack betties -ss moving in to spot for them now.

there are 3 enemy ss in tokyo bay for heavens sake!!
japan is ringed by the little rats
But i sneak 3 important convoys in to japan today.....

RO 66 has a nightmare day today -4 seperate attacks on it at lunga -20"hits' -and she still lives.

but she spots for me - 4 betty attack during the night -2 lost, and they miss the south dak.
a ss gets a msw, but his air hits 2 of my ss near lunga.
The naval bombardments arrive again at lunga -i expect the troops tomorrow.

Man, game wise, enjoyment wise, why did i leave rabual???
Oh well, die is cast now.
In burma he pounds rahaeng again -and strikes Vic point
Heavy shipping losses at lea continue.
2 sallies attack his cvs off lunga -76 hellcat, 101 wildcat CAP.
North of Tavoy 4 tank regiments shock his regiment -1 to 1, rats.
light losses though.

Home islands:
I begin to dispatch more planes south
China -more oscars moving west
vietnam- I fill as many bases as I have with 1 unit of crap planes -float, recon, sonia -anything to try to mask when the real stuff moves up.
malaya -half the fleet has arrived at singapore, and sucked it dry of fuel
from all over the empire, a ship here, a ship there, I have scoured the place trying to get fuel to singapore -2 problems, none to be had, and no ships to carry it.

This must be one of the few games I have heard about where in 43 japan is running out of AKs and APs.
I have not built one for ages though.

In the dei its quiet, again its all about getting fuel to singapore, and having the CVs dodge the ss prowling the java sea..

still have adequate forces there.

Solomons
little i can do except prepare for the last act, I will keep trying for a night attack by my betties.

the invasion of lunga begins, so far 2nd marines, americal div
some sniping by me fails -he has 135 hellcats, 135 wildcats on CAP, wonder what percent that is?

Anyway, no intention to take that on.
his landing sees some ships, lcts hit, but my troops are pretty well smashed, will not be a long defence I think .

In burma I see what he is up to

In North Vietnam he took the base Luang pabrang? by paras.
now there are 7 units there- they will obviously link up with the chinese, and attack siagon down through vietnam

I have diverted a 3rd div to the theatre, and another regiment as well.
I think a real chance is opening here, he will be low on supply, and will have no heavy guns.
The tanks I have at tavoy are ordered to retreat -as the fastest units i have -to vietnam they go.

In the solomons the supa sonias move in, i fill lunga field with a few float planes -and trust tabpub will hit Lunga airfield now that the place suddenly sprouts a symbol.
Oil in the home islands actually crawls above 400000 again!

man, this is going to be painful once I lose the DEI oil -what little I recieve that is

tabpub landings at lunga continue
I have a few betties night attack in the gilberts -and miss
A few sallies have a go -just to see what his CAP is today -and its all clouded in -IF onlyI was coming in strength -today would have nbeen a superb surface task force day.
OH well
15 oscars, 18 sonias attack- 30 corsairs shoot all but 3 sonias down -and 1 100lb bomb scratches a bb paint

In Burma 30 sallies attack his troops -the 1st army bombing mission for nearly a year in the east

The float plane, "crap trap" works -big air raids on the new airfield occupied symbols -especially TAN

His CVs in the afternoon hit lunga -lots of planes.

Home islands_
have nearly 75% of remaining tankers here unloading -I hope for about 2 more round trips, then we starve

China
troops on the move

Vietnam
More troops unloading cam rah bay

Burma
He pounds away at Rahaeng, tavoy, vic point
Bomb, bomb, bomb
Lots of ships at rangoon
Im waiting on CVs to come up, and more fuel

DEI
All quiet
Im not as worried now as I was -knowing where his CVs are

Solomons
The sonias quit -the oscars are needed to cover a convoy going to gassmatta

overall, its all still all about moving the wieght of the empire to the north west, cannot confront his death star -I still hope to get the british fleet in my sights.

busy day
tabpub claims it will take 5 days to take lunga, lets see -that will be the 18th then
few casos inflicted as still more troops land at lunga
My betties attack at night majuro -in the gilberts -but miss whatever was there.
A heavy naval bombardment of lunga
27 lillie starfe the field at hanoi -lost 7 to P40s
But the army air force is coming into play now, I hope to drag attention away from his un interupted bombing of my poor troops, time to bomb my poor airfields

Down at lunga he today has a 139 hellcat, 195 wildcat CAP
Is he expecting me to come down and take that on?, over an island that is doomed?
12 sallies die trying though
117h/c, 103 w/c 84 avengers hit lunga

23 mitchells attack hong kong -28 tonie shoot down 5, for 4 lost!
he busts barges -oscars go down trying to protect them near tassafroga
and a terrible SS day near lunga, no less than 4 ss sunk today

little new orders today -100 new fighters leave home islands for the east.

been flying through turns -hard to keep up!

he continues to unload at Lunga, and trys an attack at tassafronga -and fails
Pts hassle barges at tassafronga
Personally i think barges should have a far, far higher air detection level - this is what Pts should be for, to stop them -not sinking DDsand defeating fleets of CAs
Its too easy sinking barges by air -they lay up during the day -hiding.

lost the usual 2-3 Aks today to ss

AM air action
57 P40 sweep Honkers -30 tony
7s/d to 6 lost
then 19 p40 escorted 8 mitchels to honkers-the 23 tony shoot down 5 mitchels

Chinese troops enter the fray at rahaeng
The 1st deliberate attacj at lunga gets 3 to 1, forts to 6
But its only 2 divs there-I think this might take a while.

Orders
I move buckets of planes to honkers -order to attack Wuchow A/F.
Still getting things together for operation baffle -the fake yet not so fake invasion of tricomalee
yep -soon a lot of APs will be headed towards the rear areas -me thinks tabpub has stripped India a bit bare.
At the least -this little op may distract him from the real battles I am about to develop.
herbiesan aint going to wait to get steamrolled -he has a few nasties of his own
Singapore by 44!? IN YOUR DREAMS FRIEND!!!

tabpub tells me vietnam is a side show

I do not believe him
But Im about to try to make it a major fight.
So many chinese in burma -I wonder just how many are available in southern china?

Today anaval bombardment of Munda
His Cvs are leaving Lunga -getting ready to cover the invasion of PNG tha must soon come

Today 48 p40 sweep honkers -nobody home
instead 63 tony,31 zeke, 25 sally, 27 sonia, 34 lilly attack Wuchow
67 hits -and 10 enemy destroyed
a second raid from taan -32 oscar, 59 lilly, 27 sally add 46 hits.

he hits rahaeng hard
Lunga is hit by CV planes
lautern hit
GG hit
Only a bombardment at lunga -man, if Id stuck to the original plan -I could have held him here for a lot longer.
Oh well

Orders
Big gamble -more of the same from honkers
Still moving the pieces into position.

More enemy troops landing tassafronga
2 lct hit mines

POO
Hong kong clouded in
34 oscar and 39 sonia attack wuchow -41 P40 on CAP -OUCH- 25 sonia, 8 oscar lost.
55 lilly, 22 sally, 35 oscar meet the 40 P40
4 lost 3 lost 8 lost 8 s/d -30 hits
If only the 100 plus fighters I have at honkers flew

I notice greatly increased CAP at Adaman island
sallies from camrah bay attack chinese troops in vietnam

Then disaster in the PM phase -78 mitchell-43 liberators tear up the base -no cap
I lose 40 a/c of all types
Then all bases in burma are bombed, shortland is attacked too today
Lunga -down to 5 forts
Orders
I have to pull out of honkers, the remnants leave
At Hue in vietnam 2 divs await another, and a regiment -they will soon be told to advance

In the solomons I am having a successful time pulling out support , especially AV support units, and sending them to the phillipines

He is busy taking maleop today, insisting on taking every dot in the gilberts.
AM
all china fields clouded in -i get quite a few planes out of honkers today
My last ML in soerabaya is sunk by a SS
and a chinese unit throws a snlf down the track south west of hanoi

Orders
I order a very large number of troops up from the south towards rahaeng -and order a div south of there up across the river -I sense a attack soon -looking at units in the jungle to the west -and across the river - bombing is getting very heavy, and my principle unit is very tired there -time to be relieved.

And now for operation backdoor
Phase 1
The chinese troops, so long quiet are on the march towards Changsa -and north from canton towards wuchow
Objective -to draw his eastern airforce further east

Phase 2
equivelant of 4 divs to strike north up vietnam coast road towards hanoi -
objective -same as china

Phase 3
KB 1 - 6 cvs is pushing into the bay of bengal -waving the flag!
A very large convoy sails from Singapore today -20 Aps -all with troops, destination tricomalee.
how many troops? enough that if a SS gets one he will see casos from any ship -and must assume all are loaded to the hilt.

Phase 4
The mani show -a BIG drive straight up the railway to rahaeng and beyond -I am counting his units -and here is a chance to throw him back, or at worst -to have him break a few divisions

Phase 5
KB 2 -and the whole fleet will aspproach Sabang
Any general seeing such a thrust at rahaeng must be tempted with such air/sea superiority to attempt to outflank the thrust by landing at Vic point or even further south.
KB 2 might get a good shot in
failing tthat -and Tabpub hardly strikes me as one to try -KB, and just about every fighter I have will CAP and LRCAP the fleet to striking range of Adaman island -and I will crush it.
I seek the british fleet for battle

he trys again at lunga -2 to 1, forts to 4 -and i think he is getting very disrupted.
It will take more than the 5 days he boasted

operation backdoor starts well

one of the Aps hits a mine -and troops swim -hope he gets the message

Honkers pounded.
Still struggling to get planes out

Lunga -forts to 3
The china battles around changsa commence -and allied planes are there in numbers!

16 div arrives rahaeng tomorrow -and Im expecting an attack -massive bombing there today as well. The advace to north begins from bangkok

KB 1 is rapidly getting near its position I want.

more troops landing at lunga -somebody did not bring enough perhaps??

operation backdoor of to a great start -allied shock attack at rahaeng
- as 16 div arrives
3 indian divs, a chinese div, 1 tank regiment
0 to 1 forts 9, 5246 allied casos -to 175
and careful looking shows not much behind the now wrecked allied units

coming up the railway -2 more divs, 65 brigade, 5 tank regiments, 5south sea detachments, and another regiment
plus the 16th already there.
KB 2 sails
(thats the entire fleet) sssshhhhhhhhhhh

Its the 9th month of 43
I have stuff all oil
stuff all fuel
running out of planes, ships, and everything
Yet, strangely enough -Im having a ball, its going to be the most frustrating game Tabpub has ever played if I can get half a chance!

operation backdoor gets a bit of a jolt -Bb ise hits a mine in mallacca straight -but escapes pretty unscathed.
a PC near her goes straight to the bottom when she "clears" another.
A ss in soerabaya hbr actually misses a MLE, and a AR!
2 times lucky me today!

My Cvs are giving the game away by attacking ss with their judys.
Tabpub sure must know Im coming up the straight.

rahaeng is bombed, so is lautern, and deep down south in the coral sea -here comes the Milne bay invasion fleet

The fronts
Home islands:
not much happening -its scrape the barrel time for oil and stuff.

China
The entire front from the northern areas to canton is alive -tabpub is attacking on ALL fronts!!!!
North of canton 7 chinese units vs 5 of my divisions
South of changsa its 3 corps vs 3 divisions
Troops coming into the homan intersection -and many more coming.

I think I stirred a hornets nest!!!!

Vietnam
a couple of days and we march

Burma
The fleet is headed up the channel, lots of LRCAP as well, moving north with it.

I think this month should see the war turn decisevly against me -i seek a miricle!
