It works great! Just one thing though, when I downloaded and installed Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, it created a new user on my computer named "ASP.NET Machine A...". I don't know a lot about computers, much less about networking. I would like to delete this account because now my computer always loads to the "select user" screen when the machine loads of the screen-saver starts, which I find annoying. I also don't like the idea of having a "user" on the computer when I don't know what it can do. So, my question is: Can I safely delete this user with out messing up either my system of your utility?

The utility doesn't add or need another user. I think that user is added during installation of the .NET framework and is intended for ASP.NET development purposes, but I don't have it on my XP dev system.

I think you can safely delete it, as long as you dont intend to develop any ASP.NET applications. Here's a link with some more info if you're interested (the link also includes a way to recreate the user if you find it was vital after removing it. )

Hi Mark,

Sorry to hear that. Any chance of zipping up the relevant com_combatreport.txt file from the [game save slot No] subfolder of the WitP SAVE folder and sending it to me?

Thanks.

Where do you find the trace log? I'm having some issues where some of the operations reports and combat reports aren't showing up - haven't had a chance to look closely (which is why I didn't report it yet - always want to rule out pilot error before bothering a developer, especially a volunteer developer). Wonder if I've got the same symptom?

TraceLog will be in the folder where you installed the utility. It should only be present if the program has encountered a run-time error. If you think it's missing data though, a better bet would be to look in the "missed____.txt" files in the same folder. If you find something, please send me these files.

Thanks.

Thanks to Mark (BaitBoy) for uncovering a bug that slipped through.

There's an update (1.0.04) to fix the problem Mark found.

Ted's doing that independently, I'm sure he'll post when he has something to report.

Nope. A couple of short trips have kept me away from the house. I have one more trip next week and then I will have time. I hope to knock most of it out this weekend.

Bodhi, would it be possible to add something like an import/export function so we could export a given save plus all the reports to a folder and import the folder to a different WitP install?

All the data for a "game" is already saved into a single folder, the XXX sub folder of WitP's SAVE folder, where XXX is the save slot number (with a leading zero(s) if required).

So, assuming a game has a save slot of "10", you should find all data for the intel/ops/combat reports in the "010" sub folder of the main WitP "SAVE" folder. Just copy this folder and it's contents to the SAVE folder of your other install, start up the utility and set the WITP path to the new install location. This should give you what you want.

One word about using multiple installs, it should work fine by resetting the WitP path in the utility for each install. However, the utility only allows one game per save slot, so if you do use it with multiple installs, try NOT to use the same game save slot in different installs.

If you're missing combat reports and seeing a message in the TraceLog.txt file like the one below:

"[4/3/2005 1:36:59 PM.437] CheckCombatReports - mscorlib Length cannot be less than zero.
Parameter name: length"

please update to the latest version. You'll be pleased to hear that the programmers pay has been docked 10% for a month for letting this one slip past.

Any other problems, please post here.

Another quick update, and a couple more screen shots concerning the planner/calendar...

I have two of the 4 areas pretty much finished at the moment, and waiting for feedback from a couple kind folks who are testing for me. The categories and notes are complete, and I have events left to do, as well as a small routine that allows Bodhi to delete my game files whenever you choose to delete one of his slots.

OK here is the first screen shot..

I've set this up so you can create and display multiple categories at once, allowing you to group various notes and events. You'll also be able to update, delete and add new material from here.

More in next post

Here is a screen shot of one of the popup menus. These popups will be available from just about ever text box in this program.

OK, thats it for the moment. I'm off to jump in events and wait for feedback.

Looking good. Almost looking forward to this release as I am to 1.5! Hoping to do away with my notebooks completely!

Question...can you select a base and make notes about it?

Not at this time, no. I have added provisions in the database for x,y coordinates for the future. This is something Bodhi and I will have to hash out, because it involves more "talking" between his program and mine. Right now the only "talking" our programs do is the F10 key, and setting/deleting games. We have discussed it though. Bodhi...comments ?

However, all is not lost. I would suggest creating a category (like "Tarawa" in the screen shots) and keep notes and events in there. I think that would do for the moment.

This looks great! Can you link a note to both a category and a day? For example, you have the same note under "Routine Convoys" for a re-supply convoy to re-supply Midway, and under the day that the convoy is expected to arrive? If you can this would save us having to enter the same data twice.

Understand...very grateful you guys are doing this.

Mainly thinking of tracking purposes on the bases. Sometimes I want to see how my assault strength changes over a few weeks, or how supply is doing at a particular base. Right now I use sticky notes and notebooks, but hopefully in the future will be able to use your programs.

Not a note...but you can with an event. The category screen will list all related notes and events. And the events will have a note field you can keep notes in. There will also be recurring events....

I think it'd be useful for players to have the option of automatically displaying notes for the currently selected hex in the utility. If you include a property for the currently selected hex in your DLL, I can set it whenever, and however, the player changes the hex. You could then load the notes/events for that hex.

How about doing that for an auto category? That would load all of the pertinent events/notes in one window and display. Otherwise, it could get ugly if a player had setup 125 different events or notes for that base, and having all those windows pop up. I think that would be doable. And on your side...set it to return 0 for nothing available, or 1 for something available, and then you call a Show method.

Ok, i'll have to doodle on some paper for this one. But I'll toss it high on the "to do" list for the first revision.

Well, I got the trips out of the way, and for about a week now some testing has been going on with the planner/calendar. Since no partions were deleted or hard drives accidentally reformated , I thought I would open up the testing a little. If anyone wants to try it out, PM me and I will let you know how to get it.

Don't want to post the link here because it will change eventually, and neither Bodhi or I want to have to keep answering the "Why is the link broke ?" questions all the time.

Hi, thanks for the great utility. I have a couple of questions about it. When it asks for a save slot, what happens? Do I have to have a game already started and saved in that slot? What if during the game I make a save to another slot as well?

There are a couple of options to set intel times (1 day - 7 days). Does that mean it only checks that often or that it only keeps stuff around that long or what?

Hi, thanks for the great utility. I have a couple of questions about it. When it asks for a save slot, what happens?

All the data it uses is saved into a sub folder XXX of the main WitP SAVE folder, where XXX is the save slot number. Also, if your have auto-archive user-saves turned on, whenever you save a game to that save slot within WitP it'll make an archive copy of the save.

quote:

Do I have to have a game already started and saved in that slot?

No you don't need to have a game already started, it'll work even for a brand new game (just don't click the "Check for New Intel/Ops" button before you resolve the first turn though ).

quote:

What if during the game I make a save to another slot as well?

If it's the same game, the intel/ops/combat reporting will function as normal. If you're using the auto-archive of user saves option, it won't recognise the save as it's to a different slot and so no archive copy of the save file will be made.

quote:

The options on the Reports form simply alters the number of days worth of data that's displayed. There's an option on the Options form (Tools->Options) that allows you to control how many days worth of data is saved. Unless you have a compelling reason to do so, I'd suggest you don't change the number of days saved (once the data's lost, it's gone forever ), rather control how much is displayed via the options on the Reports form. Intel/Ops/Combat reports are checked after every turn resolution if auto-monitoring is turned on.

Trying to use your utility to plan IJ first turn utilizing Pry's Scen. 34 and AB's map. Utility doesn't want to show airbases or ports or resources/fuel/oil etc on map....The correct map appears... with no information on it...

EDIT: I have multiple installs.... AB"s map and Pry's Scen 34 are installed under C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific the original base game is installed under C:/Matrix Games/ War in the Pacific.

In the utility...under the tools option when i point the utility to the AB file I get the correct map but no information...If I point the utility to the original game in the War in the pacific folder it appears to function normally. ie. the original map appears with information on it...

The correct data appears in the side bar...just no visual representation on the map.

EDIT #2: Still exploring ...the utility seems to be working fine with AB's scen 116. Possibly Pry's Scen 34 is missing a necessary file?
