The only way to intercept an enemy TF with your own surface TF (outside of a base hex), is if both of you end the turn in the same hex. Even then, there's a good chance you won't fight each other (the chance to engage depends on the detection level, the type(s) of TFs involves, the TF leader ratings, and bunch of other stuff). It's not easy, but it can be done. The only use I've found for this is, if you're trying to catch a convoy, you can split up your SC TF into single ships, and squat on every hex you think he'll END his turn on (not move thru). Problem is that now your SC TF is split up, and if your enemy has a SC TF, he's got a fair chance of landing his multi-ship TF on a hex with your single-ship TFs. -F-
