August continues July's boring ways. Kaiser continues to play it safe, nothing but the occasional mining foray and the now typical pattern of air attacks on the 5th Air Division defensive zone in Burma. If he keeps to form I dont expect to even sight an American CV till the fall or possibly even early 43. I have to admit I find the Burma raids frustrating despite their nusience value. My AA defenses might as well not be there and without them, my Army fighters cant do the job alone. With waves of Allied bombers attacking at low altitude, I end up losing more planes on the ground than i can damage or shoot down in the air. My only consolation is that the ground losses are preserving the lives of my pilots. Got plenty of Nates in particular to replace losses.

My own boring plans continue apace as well. Maybe a suprise or two left in me. Only 1 AP has been the victim of these mining ops. In trade i've sunk of the raiding subs.

Well, last turn my subs found out they are there to fire some torps . Upgrade time is coming, hopefully they will be more useful after.

There is really nothing to report. I am continuing to build up, move supplies move ships, move troops and aircrafts...

Usually, at this stage of the war i am using my klingon 200 b17 squadrons to hurt the Japs while i prepare.
However, in this game, i have few B-17E reinforcements (16/month). I lack the long range escorts to make some raids without losing B-17 at this stage of the war. and Nik has still all his squadrons with good pilots.
This, together with a mistake i made early on in deployment, makes me so quiet.

Add to this that Japan is smart enough to keep just crappy planes in forward bases (nates, oscars, claudes) so i won't even affect his production as those planes are going to be replaced anyway (he just using his stockpile of garbage planes ).

Add to this that KB has disappeared since 1 month now. Given the fact i ended up losing AK in an unexpected raid in one of my rear bases for 3 times, this makes me over cautious.

Result a boring August for the Allies.

Allied subs continue to conduct harassment mining raids. Our MSW's are litterally clearing them as fast as they are laid. Commonwealth air forces have switched to a "strategic" bombing campaign in Burma. Imperal GHQ is consulting with Burma Area Army on what, if any, steps to take to halt this action. The resources in Burma are not vital to the health of the Co-itsallforNik-sphere and there is plenty of supply available in Burma for operations planned there.

Elsewhere, all is quiet. New Guneau saw it's first heavy bomber raid by B-24's and B-17's. Negligable damage was caused and a good number of heavies were shot up. Imperial pilots reported downing 20 enemy bombers

do you think any ASW TF could have ship classes without an ASW rating or more than 25 ships in a single TF?

bug has been around for a while but it has proven to be almost impossible to squash because for one, it does not repeat even if you save the turn before and then rerun the combat phase. Without a consistantly repeating save showing the bug, it makes it next to impossible for MikeW to track down where/why/how the glitch is occuring. Fortunately it is very rare. This is only the third or fourth time i've seen it in hundreds of turns in games/tests that i've been running

Imperial GHQ admitted today that an administrative error resulted in a major air counter-attack by the JAAF 5th Air Division going horribly wrong. Due to the error, the massive strikes (over a 2 day period) all went in over Dacca unescorted and were set upon by hordes of enemy Allied fighters. Losses are very severe. 71 bombers either went down in flames over the target or crashed while trying to return to Burma.

The Air commander of 5th Air Division has been sacked for the error.

No, what happened was that when i set the fighters to escort, i missed the fact that their range settting was set to 4 hexes. I"m not 100% sure, but i think that if you set your fighters to escort at a base but limit their range, even if the target in question is beyond that range, the rule that prevents unescorted bombers from flying against strongly defended airbases will still be relaxed. That would explain why the bombers flew TWICE unescorted against an airbase that had over 75 frikin fighters orbiting it.

Well, today partially made up for yesterday's disaster. I anticipated that Kaiser might try to capitalize on my flub yesterday and strike my airbase where my damaged bombers are still repairing and retooling. I reinforced it with more Burma Zeros and set them to high CAP. 65 very angry pilots were waiting for the raid which only had a tiny token Buffalo escort. The result.....a failed air attack and 35 enemy aircraft destroyed over the target or written off/crashed on the way back to Dacca.

Allies report 12 enemy aircrafts destoryed on ground during bombing raid over Port Moresby.

August ends. The report of the month is that nothing happened.

Allies lack b-17 replacement to use them regularly. So my air campaign is non existant. I canàt hit rangoon, or any base in pacific.
