Lots of catching up to do, starting with how I managed to lose the Enterprise just a couple of weeks after my miraculous first battle. Never send a carrier towards a Japanese base, particularly in the early war, without carefully counting hexes after carefully calculating the escort range of the zero. (11 Hexes! Whoops)

Mogami's comments: "OK this might change things. I think you had PM safe because I knew you had at least 2 CV left maybe 3 (180-270ac)
Now you have only 1 or 2 (90-180ac)
I could not send a CV TF with 270 ac out for battle and I could not expect to fight such a battle where my LBA could help (I would have to stay away from your LBA as well)
The race is now to see who can repair a CV first. The first side that can put 200ac to sea will control events. Soryu and Hiryu were the two smallest IJN fleet CV (with some of the best aircrew) but only 120 ac. The other 4 IJN CV load at least 70 (4x70=280) So I need 3 CV or 2 CV and some CVL (The 2 CVL the IJN has at start load 78 ac)
I don't have to win the CV battle just score a draw (damage the remaining USN CV so my transports can move)
The excitment is back at IHQ
It is very dangerous for any Allied TF to get within 11 hexes of Japanese size 4 airfield. The A6M2 has an escort range of 11."

Ever modest, Mogami's next message: "Operation "MO" is back on. The IJN can put to sea with 240 carrier aircraft. Ready for the second battle of the Coral Sea?
You are well aquianted with the starting positions on 1 May 1942 in UV.
The focus of the Japanese war plan this time around is to secure the SRA and be ready to move towards Noumea or Fiji by 1 May 1942. So as long as I have Port Moresby by then I'll be happy.
I'll let you evac if you want."

Mogami is starting to get unhappy with my forces in the Philippines that have managed to hold his four divisions at Naga. He lands at Lamon Bay and urges me to retreat. Mogami: "So you either stop bombarding and retreat or your going to lose a pile of men. The fall of Singapore has released considerable Japanese force for redeployment. "

Ground combat at Lamon Bay -- On half-rations, the Allied commander decides that pushing the Japanese into the sea at Lamon Bay is a great idea. Two PA divisions attack, somewhat less than two return after discovering that pretty much all of the 3000 Japanese are elite combat infantry.

Mogami offers some advice on my disaster at Lamon Bay that others would do well to heed:
"remember Japanese SNLF/NLF and Naval Guard units are almost 100 percent combat troops.
Most other units (RCT/BDE/DIV) contain 1/4 to 1/3 combat troops and the rest suport troops so when you see 3k Japanese and the units are the above you need at least 6k infantry to get 2-1 before adjustments. Also these units tend to have really good leaders (at least they do before I send them into combat) I don't think PI div have much more then 2k infantry so you'll need at least 3 of them.
And don't you think I considered that maybe you would move there?
When you plan on moving troops to unload in an undefended hex it is best to have a smaller unit (like a SNLF) land in advance and capture the hex so the follow on units
A. Unload faster using the port
B. Don't suffer disruption landing on enemy hex.
C. The enemy does not get intell on number of troops landing. (when you capture a base every unit already landed appears in combat animation whether or not they are actually attacking)"

How many of you have Saburo Sakai in one of their daitai? I started 2 PBEM games with the same starting turn and he's in both. As of 12 Dec 41 he has 2 kills in one game and 0 in the other. He has 99 experience.
