I have been lurking in these forums since before WITP came out.

Finally registered because I had a flash of an idea for a new sound mod or new sound files for the game. Being as technically inept as I am, I know I am not up to the task, but perhaps brilliant person here will think the idea has merit and work it out.

Change the stock background music files for sound track to the movie "Final Countdown". Theme song from "Delta Force" is another one that might be good in the background.

Several of us have swapped the music files.(My personal favorites are from an old TV series called "Victory at Sea".)
Go to download.com,find a nice audio converter,(mine was free),and convert MP3 files to wav format.(Remember to keep the new file small,8 bit preferred),and keep the clip short as well.My clips work fine at around 6 minutes max.
Go to your sound folder and locate the music files. There are approx 5 or 6.SAVE THEM in a seperate folder.DO NOT change the opening file!..
Give the new files the same names as the ones you just removed.(If you get a message asking if you want to replace the old file, then you failed to put the old file in a seperate folder.you MUST do this first or you will erase the old one!!!)
Cobra was nice enough to provide some of the Victory at Sea clips several months ago,(see Spooky's great website)..
Take your time.I am not responsible if you screw it up,just remember to SAVE the stock files!!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Just got Victory at Sea from spookys. Listening to it gave me the idea for the others. Will give it a try, though I am noobish when it comes to changing anything on the computer.

This game takes me back to the old days of PTO for Sega Genesis I keep hearing that Hawaiian-themed music in the background. I'd love to have that running in the background of WitP

Before I got married, I just put Gettysburg CD on continuous play on the stereo system. Can't do that now with everybody sleeping. Shocking what marriage does to your life.

movie scores let's see

Das Boot
The Patriot
Victory At Sea and More Victory At Sea
War (Music from Classic War Films) includes cuts from Sink the Bismarck, In Harm's Way
The Blue Max (though more fitting for SPWAW)
Alexander Nevsky by Prokofiev
Beethoven Symphony Nos. 3, 5, 9
Carmina Burina by Orff (more fitting for when playing the Russians in any war)
La Mer by Debussy

I always liked the theme from A Bridge Too Far as well. Got my stepson looking for the songs but he says he can't find them online for download. This is going to sound very noobish but here goes......Can I copy it from an audio CD, change the format and the name and have it work?

I have never been into this area, however, at the very least, you can "rip" an individual song you want to MP3 and then convert it back into WAV format using widely available software. I think there are ways to take it directly off a CD (which is basically WAV format), but i don't know what software you would use.

EDIT - You *might* be able to copy a single track depending on the CD just using WINDOWS.

Rtrapasso is correct,(as is often the case)..
Again,go to "download.com" and find a good audio file converter,(where I found a great one for free,NOT just a "trial issue"),and you can basically copy your own cd's using the stock Microsoft Windows media player........
As for finding those old songs (which cannot be found on the commercial market any longer),some folks use Winmx.(Type it into your browser and it will be located..)I did this and have been able to locate both audio and a Bugs Bunny cartoon of "Any Bonds Today",a true WW2 era "anthem",which was recoreded by several big names of the day..
IMHO NO WW2 audio library should be without it..!!!!

all 3 are on either the CD WAR or CD THE LONGEST DAY (selections from war movies) found both on amazon along with PATTON/TORA, TORA, TORA. not sure where i found A BRIDGE TOO FAR score. WHERE EAGLES DARE isn't bad either. may have found them hunting in the movie music section and Barnes and Noble.

I tried Winmx and must be doing somthing wrong. Can't find anything. Will try search engine later tonight {providing nobody calls 911}.

Got go to work. I have a wonderful job. I sit in an ambulance for 12 hours playing on my laptop. Well.....if nobody calls 911 that is. I can usually get about 2-3 hours a night in.

Thank You

You can get Winmx here:
http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?qt=winmx&tg=dl-2001&search.x=19&search.y=7

Anytime you are downloading anything, always use your firewall and have virus protection.Know what you are downloading. This is NOT a commercial product so it has no adware,trojans,pop-ups,etc,(like so many of those "file sharing" utilities have..)..

I was able to find it and download. I am concerned about music software as my stepson has DLed more than a few viral infections much to my wife's regret {he uses her computer}.

I could not find the theme from Final Countdown or Delta Force on there. Kept getting hits for the soundtrack from Rocky IV. I can find a copy of the soundtrack from Final Countdown on the net, but Ebay has only two copies of the Delta Force soundtrack and they are in Finland and Peru. A little skittish about purchase from outside the country.

Gotta keep looking. Find it in time. Let my wife know about it and she'll find it. She is good about finding obscure movies.

Can I pick your brain a bit?

I got a .wav file from Final Countdown. I copy it as 1029.sfx {which is one of the files that the Victory at Sea files replaces}. However, I cannot get it to copy as 1029.sfx...it copies as 1029.sfx.wav. I stays as a tile unlike the others in the sound folder. It doesn't play.

Am I picking the wrong file? Am I doing something wrong that I don't know about?

Thanks for your help.

I think it's windows. You have to change your windows settings to "show file extensions" (if you have winXP open WITP sound folder than click on the "Tools" menu --> "Options..." and uncheck the settings "hide file extension for know types" or something similar) or you cannot change the extension of a file.
E.g.: with "hide file extensions", you'll see "sound1.wav" simply as "sound1". If you rename it to "sound2.sfx" it will be renamed "sound2.sfx.wav".

Hope it helps (and sorry as usual for my english).

Oh yeah! Calumet Harbor, is that close by?
My family is originally from Hammond. Moved to Indy many many moons ago.
Like 1960 timewise.
