Status: offline 		Guys, I picked up a virus from this site tonight called "Trojan Dropper." It self-installed into the following directory on my computer: C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific\iun6002.exe

Thankfully Norton Antivirus caught it but it took 4 tries to clear it out. MacAfee didn't catch it (I run 2 AV programs). Check your directory for this file and get rid of it.

Status: offline 		Chez, Your post made me look at my computer, and then do some searching on the net.

I found that iun6002.exe was installed on my computer when I was installing CHS (v1.06) - because of the date and time of install.

My search on the internet came up with this nugget:

"iun6002.exe is a generic installer and part of Setup Factory 6.0 from
Indigo Rose Corporation.
http://www.indigorose.com/sf/using_setup_factory.php

It could be a false positive, or it may be considered a threat because
some spyware uses it as installer (this is probably the case.) You
shouldn't need the file after the program that uses it has been
installed, unless of course you are actually creating setup files
yourself."

Status: offline 		Thanks for the info. Norton rated it as a severe threat and thta's why I figured I'd let people know. I am curious as to why an installer was downloaded. I have never dowloaded CHS so if it was part of that, I don't know why I would get it.

I agree about Norton, AVG is free and does a better job

Status: offline 		yes, CA's EZtrust Anti virus isnt nearly so bulky vs. Norton, works quickly and never interferes with other programs i'm running and their updates program is very reasonable.

Status: offline 		iun6002.exe has been used by creators of spyware as the installer which places their spyware onto computers. This is why many virus/spyware detectors will list it as a dangerous program.

Was it used as the installer for any of the CHS?

Chez, what I did was look at the time of install on it and then looked for other programs installed at the same time. If you still have any idea as to when it was installed, you might want to check for other files installed at the same time.

If i'm understanding Norton's statement right, they consider the presence of the exe as an additional vulnerability to a system, perhaps some trojans look for it and "use" it to install themselves onto the system in question but given that most viruses and trojens self install it might be overblown.

Since spyware programs also use it dont think it hurts to be safe. on a similar note, my CA AV always considers the autorun for SPWAW as a potential threat.

Another thing to be on the lookout for...."Wintools". Check your task manager to be sure they are not running in your processes. They suck up system resources and are hard to remove.

Status: offline 		iun6002 in itself is not a dangerous program, but you might want to double check to see what else was installed on that day. From what I read, you can remove it if you are not in the business of creating setup files. I decided not to, as I'm now confident that it is no danger.
