I have 2 Divison at Meiktela now plus 1 Armoured Bde

Reinforcing them is an Army HQ 2 Corps HQ's 2 Armoured Bdes and about 5 Inf Divs plus base forces and Arty.

Its still a little to early to be leaving India unguarded so I have another 2 Corps in India acting as garrison troops

I just rechecked make that 2nd/ 18th UK, 14th, 17th and 23rd Indian Divs on the trails
5th and 25th Indian are already at Myktinia

Add to that about 7 Independent Inf Bdes (some rebuilt after Malaya/Burma some new arrivals) on the trails

I also have 3rd, 44th, 20th and 26th Div in India with about another 7 or 8 Independent Bdes in various rebuild and heavy equipment states (20th is Bde strength, 26th about 70% but light on Morters and Engineers)

Yunan falls and my Chinese forces are forced to retreat into the wilderness. Burma Corps begins its advance towards Mandalay with several divisions under command if Pauk wants a fight he will get one.

Intel reports 35,000 men at Mandalay I have about 50,000 heading that way now.
Its time to roll the dice and see what happens I will swap Rangoon for Yunan quite happily.

GiliForce is getting organised I would like to take that base ASAP to start putting pressure on Rabaul.

p.s. in order to supply this offensive I am alternating all my bombers onto supply runs into Myktina with bombing raids on Mandalay.

I will be threatening a landing on Rangoon with mhy fleet to try and stop reinforcements oving towards Mandalay.

If I can take Mandalay I will be able to take the whole of Northern Burma which will allow me to drive South !!!!

Here's another option for you:

I have a similar offensive going at near the same date (March 9, 43). My bombers & transports weren't carrying enough supply so I flew the Southeast Asia HQ into Myitk.... Within 2 or 3 days it drew plenty of supply (@25K IIRC).

There's only 14K there now (1300 required), but 120K troops beseiging Mandalay are fully in supply as well as 50K troops driving on Lashio.

I'm sure I'm losing a lot to spoilage going over the trails but supplies in India aren't a problem at this point. And I can keep my transports & bombers on other duties.

Aye SEAC is not far away on the trails should be there in a few days.

I have a number of operations under way

I have a carrier TF off the coast of Burma with a lot of transports but this is a diversion no troops are loaded so I WANT to get spotted hopefully anchoring Pauks forces

I am looking at the Marshalls long and hard as an option I may send some forces that away.

Psy ops begin I am trying to convince Pauk that my real target is Rangoon I have 6 Divisions in the 1st wave attacking mandalay.

2nd wave will arrive in a few days.

I am open to suggestions guys I have 6 USN and 2 RN CV's plus 3 CVL's in SWPAC and I dont think I can take on KB head on with Wildcats.

Not with Pauks xp levle and win but I am open to suggestions.

(almost as bad would be the crippling of my Amphib TF's)

Forces are limited as I have pulled a lot of forces to Australia for SWPAC's attack

SouthPac has 2 Bdes/RCT's in New Cal
Fiji has 2 Divs and 2 Bdes/RCT's
Nanomea Atoll 2 Bdes/RCT's

Not a lot to defend a lot of real estate so no real offensive forces at present.

Centpac has 1 Division and 6 RCT's covering the Gilberts and islands west of Pearl.

At Pearl itself I have 1 Divison and 2 RCT's

As I am sure you will agree the cupboard is slightly bare  CENTPAC can probably muster 2 Divs for offensive Action SOPAC probably another 2 Divs but I am probably unwilling to commit to far at present until I know whats happening at Gili Gili.

I have Ndini now at lvl 1 AF and building

In the next 90 days I get 4 more Divs that will all go to CENTPAC for an attack into the Marshalls

OK guys choices choices I have perhaps over concentrated in Australia

4 Divs at PM
7 Available Divs in Aus plus the actual Aus Command militia Divs

I can concentrate about 4 Divs at Suva within 45 days for offensive ops and in 90 days a further 4 at Pearl.

As I see it there are three ways of playing this.

1. Use my current forces for operations securing outlying islands in the Marshalls and the 90 day forces for the assault on Kwajalein and Entiwock.

2. Use current forces for a Solomons Campaign and 90 day forces to hit Kwaj direct or to hit the outlying islands

or

3. Make noises in CENTPAC and concentrate all 8 Divisons in SOPAC and use them to secure Rabaul and force my way North. Basically a c 20 Division Force piledriving its way North

Any thoughts

What do the Japanese have at:
Thursday Island??
Gili Gili??
Southern Marshall Islands??

I think you need to get another base or two on New Guinea to be able bring in more of your bomber force.

About 30,000 at Gili Gili, 5,000 at Thursday not sure about southern Marshalls

Troops land on Thursday Island again its part of my diversion plan trying to make him think I go north for Darwin.

I am considering sending my Eastern Fleet South to the Malacca straight when I withdraw the dummy TF's to see if I can pick off any light carriers or surface combat TF's

Those British CV's with their armored decks are nice when it comes to being hit by 250kg bombs - they just bounce off.
However, they get hurt mainly by torpedo..which you had happen.

Another crucial advantage all the Seafire Sqns upgrade to to to Corsairs !!!!!

Under PDU my USN Wildcats dont upgrade to Corsairs making my RN  Ones very valuable in 43.

Pauk thinks it was an allied victory I call it a draw 1 CA for a damaged flat top that has a LOOONG journey to find a good repair yard.

(I really feel that allied repair yards are under represented in game.

I have seen games where the Japanese have 300 - 400 point repair yards on the go.

The allies get 1 x 200 yard and a few 100's it take the allies longer to repair ships after a long journey than it take the Japanese is this right ?.

Surely there should be a return to East coast/UK yard button at Karachi/San Fran with a formula 30 day transit time x a modifier for level of damage i.e. a ship able to do 2 knots would take 120 days to get there etc etc

And Assume they go to a 500 point shipyard so 1 point of damage repaired per day once they arrive there but when they come back they are fully repaired.

Just a thought.

I dont like being out repaired after a far longer journey

From now on I will cut out training missions unless someone really asks to see it

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/29/43
BURMA FRONT

Only interesting front at present heavy air attacks on Mandalay defenders and supply status of allied forces means I will try a deliberate attack with just Malaya Armies 2 Corps in the line.

12th Army is still recuperating at Myktina and will need another few days to recover strenght then I hope to give Pauk a surprise.

He know about 1 of my armies but not the 2nd.

This is a calculated risk I am taking I have the best part of 4 Divisons plus base forces and garrisone troops still in India but I have the equivalent of 11 Divisions in Burma.

I have achieved this by rebuilding 2 of the Divisons from Malaya and the 2 that got away intact from Burma and concentrating all replacements on 3 of the rebuilding India Army units. (and transferring in some Canucks) I am short of Engineers and Arty for Indian forces who really needed another 6 months to be fully comnbat ready but so be it.

In a week or so the 2nd Army that I hope Pauk does not suspect will leave Myktina for the front.

OK well mixed turn my Bombers hit naval tanports off of Siador and walked into a buzz saw of a CAP.

This game is still very competative in May 43 !!!!

OK you may think I am being a little chicken over not wanting to risk a carrier battle at present but I wanted to explain myself.

1. I have fought many battles against KB in many games and with Wildcats against an undamaged KB I have won 1 encounter out of about 10 (Sorry Simon :) you were the only one I have won !!!). The fact is whether its right or not, historicall accurate or not Wildcats are NOT a good risk against Zeroes. UBER CAP and Zeroes means that my Carriers would be toast if I try to go toe to toe with KB it is possible I could do ok but my personal experience leads me to say its a bad risk.

2. I cannot afford heavy losses in 43 in carriers as they dont re spawn for 550 days If I got the replacements on historic launch dates I would probably be more willing to take risks.

I doubt this is right but Hellcats make such a huge difference to the fighting ability of USN carriers in game making them an offensive rather than defensive weapon UBERCAP starts to work for the allies.

As a result of the above I am not going to take to many risks regarding Gili Gili ....its just not worth it.

p.s. my attack against Mandalay was interesting.

I have about 6 Divisions in the line plus an armoured Bde

IJA has about 5 Divisions and 1 Armoured Bde facing me behind lvl 9 forts.

My adjusted assault for about 500 IJA's was 10,000. I doubt my men will be able to take mandalay when facing that kind of strength.

My engineers managed to reduce the forts 1 level so it is only lvl 8 forts now but I cannot count on that roll working in my favour 8 more times.

I will bring up 12th Army into the line in a few days to see if they can make a difference.
