somewhere in the mid Feb 43

new PC type ships are available
ASW 7 rating and DC type 2 make a huge diffrence in Hunter killer groups
now i see they can at least force sub to changing place - but maybe if i get more of them i will even have a kill
Raverdave moved his subs to intercept my cripples and KB main body to communication lines but all i can say - he maybe dissapointed as I don't need to go to Japan to rearm and take new crews
There is other way for him as a strike on PNG and Timor - I decided to move my pacific reserves to southern DEI - without BB component i can't see Raverdave attacking fortified atolls - even so there is enough naval bombers to hit his low cap- i think I have even too much in southern DEI at that moment and I don't see him achieving much without exposing rest of his fleet in any operation there
two of my damaged carriers already in Japan in shipyard.

quite a lot of action
enemy barge TF hit by surface TF again
my hunter killer group hit hard SS sunfish today

I'm very dissapointed by Chungking assault
i'd like to have sb who captured chungking reading this post
there was sth like 35 big inf units fully preped with adequate support + art and tanks
Chungking is being bombed for months
it is only base left to allied
54 units inside
4x for urban hex
lvl3 forts
there is free 300 supplies per turn given to them
I massed sth like 11k assault points plus 1000 tanks
again attack was a disaster
30% of assault ability lost
enemy have no heavy weapon
i brought sth like 3k of engineers to this attack
i can't destroy forts !!!!!!!!!!!!
if anybody has any ideas what to do i will gladly read
BTW KB is almost ready again for action - planes on fleet carriers are almost all replenished

seems to me to bring down the forts you'll need to shock... And then bombard for a weeks, and then Shock again...And it will be horribly deadly...

The outcome of the assault on Chungking is ridicoulos. And it again reminds me that ground combat in this game is the worst of all the different combat types. If this is nearly realistic then the 6th German Army would still be in Stalingrad!

You might have to shock attack more often leaving your arty always in the hex and rotating INF, ENG and ARM so that you can do 2 Shock attacks in a row... Disruption should be high enough for the Chinese that you can bring down the fort on the second attack... Maybe Shock with your low quality units the first day and keep you elite Divs, Engs and Arm for the second attack ?

From my limited experience you really need to take advantage of the disruption.. otherwise you can repeat the slow routine for ever to no avail...

And how is the airfield ? You say they get 300 supply points for free, if you were to bombard the airfield, would they use it to repair ?

I keep airfield bombed so it is not lower than 70%
if it goes down i bomb again and force repairing
more doesn't have much sense as he is relatively low on supply so it is probably distributed to units with little to no supply left in base

next try in sth like 10-15 days - ap this amount of time is needed to have readiness back
did I mention that almost all of my troops are elite 95+ exp ?
doesn't seem to have influence

what is weird - almost no losses to defenders
non existing artillery barrage or what else caused my casualties???

with 50+ units bombardment can disrupt only 3-5 units from the top only

did they use bamboo sticks to destroy / damage almost 1000 of my guns ????? 15% of all guns used are out of action
how the hell it is possible to loose 1000 guns in such battle - among them is field artillery that stay few miles behind lines
frustration is not the best word describing ground combat model in this game but it is a word heading in good direction

it is a game
we are players
we are expected to have fun from playing
and in most cases we do
sometimes such " flower" can ruin your day
basicly all my frustration in this game is caused by land combat model
during last few days during carrier engagement in had pure excitation now i have to go dow a bit

the good news is that Kongo flood is gone and ship is underway to Home Islands - i still can't imagine it i saw her sunk after battle
so sunk list is only CVL Zuiho

another good news is that shipyards were able to repair 4 sys dmg of Hiyo during last 2 days
in this tempo carrier will be operational within 2-3 weeks
same with Taiyo which reduced sys dmg from 30 to 20

Sneer, do you have prepped HQs with your forces in Chungking?
Somewhere I read that prepped HQ are very usefull in assaults (might have been amphibic invasions though).

Raver's TF seen 120 miles SE of Makin
7 ships 5 AP and 2BB reported
looks like Raverdave decided to continue offensive operatins against gilberts
But most funny thing is that he doesn't know where my carriers are
i can assume that he thinks i'm R&R in Japan
the only info he has is that damaged carriers are in Japan shipyards

no one will ever finds Raverdave cautious

on the other hand bad weather was used to attampt sneaking close to PM

fatigue in low lvl as only cap mission
range 1 in this example - very often i put range 2 so most bases can send few planes to other attacked bases too
I think as long as I can keep exp high I will have no problem with good fighter combat result - especially m3 will be exchanged to jacks in east india
it is ore interesting that Raverdave's turn execution is longer in lately  - he has probably many TF underway - maybe even there will be some diversion attack as well

He gambled with invasion TF - I assume i guessed right - on gilberts and he decides 2 weeks later he certainly could find my carriers upgrading  - i had no notice from him today's afternoon and he usually give me a sign when is last turn sent
so maybe he thinks intensivly about situation

i got turn  excuse....

convoy spotted 180 SE of last position
either TF was withdrawn or it is conwoy which go through my sphere of influence
possibility 1 - test of my reactions
possibility 2 - human error
possibility 3 - sth important what can't wait

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/03/43

And once again KB action is successful
I thought at first it is an invasion - but it is even better
enemy convoy intercetped between santa cruz and nanomuea atoll
I counted 22 AKs ( 8 sunk this turn , at least 7 next are heavy damaged and only 2 unscratched )
there may be even more here and some of them are loaded with troops
one of my floatplanes picked survivor and 2nd USMC Para was recognized

there are 2 options :
1. Raverdave will go in strenght to defend this convoy - i think it is possible that CV are somewhere close - Nomua / fiji / NZ
3 Uk CV - i think Victorious should be already here + Yorktown + maybe 1 cvl / cve will be too slow for this action so sth like 200 planes available to allies - force strong in fighter but not in attack planes
and it will need to be fast so no "R" class BBs with fleet - anything like this and this battle will be with my advantage
2. I will harass freely for at least next 2 days so 20-30 transports will be sunk for sure

I like when enemy has such dilemas
personaly I would like 1st option - opportunity to finish allied carriers would be great
but on raver's place I would choose 2nd - even some troops are not worth the risk

Raverdave is quite risk taking last time so maybe I'm wrong and we will see some carrier battle soon

As you may see I postponed my CV upgrades to wait and see what happen
I'm not in full strenght too and Raverdave knows this
zuiho sunk
akagi and hiyo out of action
CVEs were too slow to join
instead of them i joined Taiho
so i'm weaker than last time by ap 200 planes

waow, Id like to now how fatigued they were and what was the range they were flying from... Because shooting that many P38 doesn't happen very often..

P-38s in WitP are kitty cats. In UV they were pure Death-In-The-Skies, but somewhere along the way things were changed...

Every WitP Allied player does the same thing with P-38s the first time. It comes from frustration from playing nearly 360 turns without being able to stand up to Japanese fighters...

I'm astounded that Raver sent unprotected transports in Harm's Way like that. The way things are going, you'll run out of naval targets in another game-month or so...
