Im always happy to see a title that centers around the most diving point of american history...the American Civil WAr.
Having long been a fan of the John Tiller Series, especially those that were under the Talonsoft and now offered by Matrix,IE The WWII campaign series that has no equal as far as size and scope,I did expect quite the same value in this game as it was written/designed much latter than the former.
Well all that stated and quite sincre..I was ever disapointed in the overal resolution settings of the game. You can hardly see the minatures in 3d or make out the icons during 2d. I havea LCD 22" monitor thats optimum setting is 1680x1050. The game sugest 1024x768,which I did adjust setting on display too. Well still the 2d/3d are now where of any size to be fully enjoyed. they are blured and lack the clear detail that was found in the WWII Campaign series which I have mentioned preceeded this. Also some of the game mechanics have been tweaked that are not a spolished as the earlier series. However the game does bring to it a style of play in offensive/Defensive/mele/movement type order for the units involved. As always supply /morale/leadership skills are involved in overall schemes. The maps are indeed large and detailed and actually are the strongiest part of the game.
Again I have to reinforce the rating of only 3 stars in that for what you recieve here...in the lack of clealry defined visual playing pieces, especially on latter systems, this game would be better priced at $14.99 instead of the $29.99 Im sure I only will likely play this title on very "rainy Im bored with everything else "days if I eve have any.
Till then it s anon returnable product taking space on my hard drive...which is hard to understand in thatwe all know John tiller has and usally designs games a lot better than this!
