Close Combat: The Longest Day

A really nice update to one of my favorite games from the series. There are many more maps and the rendered artwork is, for the most part, up to par with the original map graphics. Graphics for units are also updated and more accurate. More scenarios too. I only have 2 gripes with the game, one very minor and the other, more serious. First for the minor gripe -- some of the newer maps are too large to manage, considering that the units usually fit on only about 1/3 (at most) of the total map. So, you'll find yourself scrolling back and forth at times. Again, a minor gripe for me. The major gripe is the path-finding and AI for units. This was supposedly improved by both the game (and the subsequent updates) but I really haven't noticed a huge improvement. Occasionally, units like tanks will turn in circles for no reason at all (with no obstacles or altitude changes to stand in their way) and, of course, get slaughtered. I still see the 'bee dance' at times, which makes no sense, considering that one of the supposedly improvements to the game is the elimination of this problem from the original game.

Still, a very enjoyable game -- both the improved version and the original (which comes with it, but I don't see why you'd want to play it).
