It provides army lists for the wars of the French revolution from 1792 to 1802 and the first campaigns of the First Empire from 1804 to 1808, thus charting the rise of Napoleon from Captain to Emperor and the armies he led to his great victories at Marengo, Austerlitz, Jena, Eylau and Friedland and their opponents .
Alongside it covers other conflicts and campaigns such as the Russo Swedish War and the wars of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans, North Arica and the Middle East and the war in the Peninsula which is covered in full from 1807 to 1814.
