Very impressive campaign in China! Do you have a "house rule" about how many units can be withdrawn after you've pretty much conquered the place?

there are no house rules but ...
1.there are garrison requirements and quite a lot of troops will stay from this reason
2.there are troops needed to stay in chinase ports for 44/45 campaign
3.kwantung is too weak to oppose Russians in 45 and needs reinforcing in 44
4.every unit not belonging to base HQ is penalized
plus...
5.i decided that India will not be finished so marching 25 division to India is not fully justified - we play WITP and not conquer the map :-)
6.Russia seems interesting .... but i don't see political scenario - i can wipe out russian troops but later we will have edge of map effect so it is wrong - not counting few hundreds 4E bombers close to industrial centers in Home islands is not an option and I feel I will have my fighters busy on perimeter
7.One thing certain - sooner or later china troops will be used to free southern area units on continent to allow southern army units to strenghten pacific/dei bases - what i assume will allow to lenghten war by 6-12 months

basicly with more or less 25 inf div free within 3 month i can finish Russia or/and can try to finish India. But as we wrote earlier we don't like totally ahistorical game
on russia front I could use sth like 20k AP :-) especially I had plenty of supply/manpower/vehicles/armament in pool to cover losses

no decision was made and I have still a lot of time especially there are over 100+ units left operational and taking chungking will not be easy

Actually I don't think that Sneer has the strategic or even military intellect to carry off an operation in Russia. Yes he has done well in China but there are a great number of people whom would simply say that was luck rather than skill. Likewise his efforts in India have also been "lucky". Could Sneer take Russia at this late stage of the game?? Nope, he would not have the skills, troops or ability to do it.

either you provoke me beliving your offensive will be as successful or it is your worst nightmare to see elite china army in russia

arguments against : mayor one :4E bombers within range of industry centers
minor one : Russian OOB is too strong and replacement rates are to high - remember it is decisive moment of battle for Moscow and there is big Air force + replacement pools are huge what I don't belive to be true IRL
I would gladly send 25 div to Australia but I have not enough PP to take Raver's smile off face

Good news : another Arm div bought out - should join Chungking strike force soon
I wrote earlier that I would gladly carry out land campaign given my resources and there will be sth given to you

is that sth Raver waits for?
late 43/44 single midway type battle ?
i hope not cos it would take away whole flavour of this game

My aim is to knock the stuffing out of the IJN fleet at a time of my choice. I can't say that I will wait as long as '44 as that is not in my game style.

Actually I hope and pray each time I load the next game file that I will see the "Russian forces activated" flash on my screen along with some sort of Russian battle song blarring out of my speakers. Alas it never seems to happen. :( I would love nothing more that to come pouring out of the North and sweep all before my Red Banner Armies !

Well the sad truth to the matter is that Sneer simply ran rings around me He is a very good player, couple that with the fact that I made some silly moves (such as sending ALL the ships in Karchi down to Perth which he found and sank half).

But on the up side MOST of my ship loses have been AKs and TKs.....not that many Naval units lost. The US Pacfic fleet in intact and within the next two to three months I will be lets slip the dogs of war. Time for some payback !

I will be able for russian offensive no sooner than spring 43 which is rather late -
Russian army should have / miracolously cos of moscow battle/ about 75% backup replacement in groung troops/ double air fighters numbers and forts 9 + lots of supply
it will be 9-12 month campaign to finish Russia at this stage and will need hellish amount of supply
finishing offensive in spring/summer44 is rather late and I'll have much better use of both troops and equipment on perimeter which will be totaly unhistorically harder to break.
it is tempting but it is too late in my opinion
it is doable but other options are more profitable
key to russia campaign is borzya region and cutting railway + taking northern bases while keeping vladivostock area busy
at the beginning of war rhere is good chance of blitzing Vladivostock but this time window closes fast.
russia is best place for allied player to attrit Japan air force as Russian fighters are relatively good interceptors + they have lots and lots of them. I see that Japan would be in defensive in air which makes things for ground troops more difficult. starving well stockpiled southern russian positions will take very long time.Honestly speaking Russia is a good idea for middle 42 but there is no chance to free enough china army by this date.
I think I will use china army to guard my continental possesion and use whole southern army in DEI and salomons. I want to see enemy landing in places defended by 3 divisions well prepared and dug in with good support from rear troops. With burma army in reserve in malayas it may be very interesting in 44 as only way for allied will be central pacific and they will need to start fast in order of wining this war
....when allies will somehow take timor retake it with 10 divisions landing

Sounds pretty good, depending on what you and Raver are using for victory conditions. In "Pacific War" the Japanese could get a good harvest of points by building an airbase within A6M2 escort range of Calcutta, but you have mentioned you're going to ignore the points score for the time being.

it would be a mistake going for attrition war against spitfires as far as war in india is concerned
zero fighters - whole family of planes - is out of use in war I'm planning
there will be carrier planes as I'm not going to use Jacks and expect Corsairs to be land used only and some daitais as a betty escort but rest of my airforce should be modern interceptors /tojo/tony/jack - zeros /zekes are too fragile
now I have monthly production of almost 400 tony/tojo
200 zeros and 150 jacks soon will be operating
franks and georges are long story away and do not offer big breakthrough but maybe I will defend DEI long enough to produce enough shinden/reppu to see some results
BTW calcutta is mine

Late war russian campaign analysis
We have discussion about russian campaign at the moment
Raverdave is disappointed with low probability of such action
Yesterday I mentioned that such campaign would take 9-12 months and would finish in early 44 but what are risk & return ?
Japan side
if won
profits :
1.access to heavy indutsry/resources and oil which would offer 10-15% increase in industry capabilities - most of it outside of enemy heavy bombers + what important land connection to home island - it is partially only success as it means more planes/tanks but no more ships - increasing industry potential doesn't mean 3 extra CV or 20 mutsu DDs will be built and it will help to stop allied fleet- I don't count LBA as it fails to penetrate cap in all AARs
2. no russian offensive in 45 -as if it really bother Japan which will be in dust from 4E bombing- low weight argument- i doubt even Zeta lived long enough to see russian activation
3.points- we do not play for points
risks
1.allied subs will get bases very close to main ports. Petropavlovsk would be blitzed fast but it is milestone to allied offensive on north wing so this position brings no advantage but huge risks- it is difficult to jump of aleutians against prepared kuriles without petropavlovsk. I don't consider 4E bombers as it was not historical from political reason and Raver declared he will not use them from Russia
2.it negates main theatre of operation which is pacific and where fast and well coordinated offensive can bring harm to Japan
3. it negates rule -strike hard and finish fast - land war attrition is ok against western allies but not against russian - replacement rates for Russia are taken from ceiling.

why not ?- it is win/win for allies to activate this front.
Russia can't be blitzed in 43/44
so worst case scenario for them is loose region+troops after 1 year bloody battles-
losses will be preatty similar to both sides but japan assets will be used in wrong place - meanwhile most important period of perimeter fight will hapen - 43 is only year when Japan can hurt Allies and delay inevitable for half a year. it certainly under no conditions can do it in 44.
I have some confidence I can halt allies progress in early 43 but not in late 43 or 44 - but it will not be possible when I will be forced to use planes and supply + reserve inf units in russia
so no gift to Raverdave as taking russia would do more harm to my war effort than advantages

11/17/42 breaking news
all this talking about allied inactivity caused him to launch offensive
8tfs 480 miles east from Wake isl
1 is huge Transport rest probably navy TFs
no sign from carriers

our fighting spirit is great however this news caused a little bit mess
especially when cadres of garrison are evacuated

looks like whole pacific fleet and half of their merchants is 240-360 miles east from Wake
and yes carriers force is also present
pity Raver did not wait 2 weeks - I was changing deployment
good that his sub activity shifted my preparations effort a bit :-)

I wanted you to know that I was coming....the idea is to force your CVs into battle. Hence the high sub activity ( it is a dead give away that something is up).

i did not expected BBs that night and tried to sneak 2 fast transport TFs
it failed and losses were high
on the other hand they prevented bombardment from 1 enemy group this night which is crucial
as you may see british joined US pacific fleet
estimated 8-9 Cvs 15+ BBs and countless cruisers and destroyers

I'm spending most of my ammo shooting at bloody AGs...... you'd think that the TF could tell the differance between a friggin barge and a CL.......pity they are not worth the effort, otherwise things are going well. The BB Tf that was hit were the old tin cans that were not hit back on the 7th of December.

... if you'd think that TF can carry out surface engagement at combat speed in mined area with 100% protection from 2 DMS ?
game is far from perfect
but honestly speaking I expected you sending destroyers to clear the mess
you lost ammo but you caught 2 my FT TF

combined fleet was ready day after first sightings
now I'm getting info about enemy fleet and tactics
most of my comment can be reflected in short sentence "it is big"
i know more or less fleet composition and main idea of this operation
contrary to my tactics when I want to have troops ASAP on the beaches Raver wants to walk around -it would be very tricky if he went after Marcus instead of Wake
but it means that keeping all these ships close to Wake must consume fuel fast
Wake is not best place to fight allies but it can't be given away lightly
i'm really interested if Raverdave will wait his armada till his Bombardment Tfs rearm and come back - or maybe he has some backup BBs - and I think he has
I expected attack on Wake so I'm not surprised - But I expected it 2-3 weeks later - minefields are well below my standards and only 3 ships were hit

still no move from Raver
my fleet concentration discovered today - grayling was fortunately a bit unlucky
soon I will have my ships refuelled and ready for action / should boost flak by few heavy ships going and voila
I think that in 3-4 days we will have our decisive battle
impressive number of ships of both sides in relatively small range

btw i think that there is over 15 BB there as well as 6 US and 2 UK carriers

Nevada and Oklahoma? Raver's obviously throwing in the kitchen sink. I wonder if we'll see British BB's as well as the modern 9X16" American BB's. And I notice Raver has followed my advice about converting his US torpedo squadrons to Avengers -- but was it the Swordfish that got those torpedo hits on the Japanese CL's?

enemy 480-640 miles east of wake retreating- allied fear Japan sailors and aviators ??
my sub missed Ramilles today
i'm surprised there was no troop landing - bluff ?
but it is a good news- campaign in China is in last stage and I should spare inf div or two to reinforce Central Pac as this route is most convinient to allies
if Raver wants me do run like mad he is wrong and certainly i'll not go close to Midway
or was I expected to leave wake undefended?
