Since the game has the possibility of going to March, 1946, what planes would be available to both sides at that time?

F7F and F8F, for sure. The Tigercat was operational with Marine squadrons before VJ-Day, and the first Navy fighter squadron with Bearcats was enroute to the Western Pacific when the war ended.

Japan would have been hard pressed to field new aircraft with the destruction of her industrial base, but the Ki-83, Kikka and Shusui were all possibilities in small numbers.

Another one the Japanese were working on was the Nakajima Ki-115 Tsurugi, a purpose-built kamikaze aircraft. It was meant to be constructed by unskilled labour, and flown by minimally trained pilots, but ironically enough its design made it exceptionally difficult to fly for even experienced airmen.

See...that's whats interesting about how the game is set-up. What if Japanese production is NOT hurting in 1945? Or 1944? Or 1946? If the Japanese player is able to hold on to areas he needs to continue to get raw materials, and his production has not been impacted by Allied advances...shouldn't the Japanese player get everything that COULD have come his way?

Actually the IJN's Nakajima J8N1 Kikka though inspired was smaller than the Me-262. It also had folding wings. The IJA was developing the Nakajima Ki-201 Karyu, which was a much closer model to the Me-262. These jets were designed with unskilled labor in mind. What delayed Japanese jets was their developement of turbojet engines since they had no experience with them and were working from drawings and photographs that the Germans had provided.

This thread is pretty simple....

If you could have one Allied Aircraft added to the game...

....What would it be?

How about the F3F. They were still in squadron service with a few of the USMC fighter units (and some USN units if I remember reading right) when the war started. They were replaced with F2A's or F4F's. Where the F3F's became the "fast" trainer for the fleet before new fighter pilots hit the training squadrons or thier fleet squadrons.

I would also humbly submit the Beech Staggerwing. To represent the US Civil Air Patrol (aka USAAF Air Auxillary) which flew a number of costal scouting, ASW, and Naval Search missions through out the war both in CONUS and in a few of the terroritories. They achieved the kill of about 3-4 German subs on the Atlantic coast, if I remember reading about them right.

finally how about the P2Y built by Consolidated Aircraft (click for link to pictures). To represent how some of the USCG units were equipped when the war started. They were still flying the P2Y up till early 1942 when they were phased out for the PBY or other aircraft like the Grumman Goose or Widgeon.

Just 3 of my ideas.

A Mosquito bomber formation along with the recon and FB versions of the plane.

My Dad navigated and was bomb aimer as well on those, when we were talking in a history class I took with a WW2 vet he said "Those were the elite of the elite" My Dad also completed several other tours from 1941 to the end in other aircraft, including Wellingtons, Stirlings and Lancasters.

When the war ended in Europe he was being prepped for deployment to India and that was only changed with Japan's surrender. He was later posted to Berlin as RAF attache to the French military governor.

The only way that'd happen is if the war didn't start until then...

PBJ-1J Mitchell as upgrade for the PV-1 Ventura (well, maybe a corrected PV-1 would do, and get rid of the default upgrade PV-1 - PB4Y-1, in my stock game there is simply no reason to employ the PV-1 because the PB4Y-1 is so much better...)

or

B-25H Mitchell with that nifty 75mm T13E1 gun

or

Beaufighter TF.Mk X, nice torpedo plane for the British

OK. Since people feel free to talk about Japanese a.c. that weren't part of the OOB because they never made it out of X-development, I'll nominate a good Allied early war wannabe.

The YP-39 as a full-up production aircraft. This would be the one *with* the turbosupercharger.

Then either the game is totally screwed up...., or the Allied player is totally screwed.

B-52. So I could "Arc Light" the Emperor on December 8th. Now that would be really "remembering Pearl Harbor".

A spooky would be fun. Of course I want the AC-130 version and not the AC-47 one.

My vote would be for the B-25H if only to see the effect of the 75mm cannon on shipping.

I have a feeling it would probably be disappointing, due to the game's mechanics, but I haven't gotten around to implementing it yet...

try the HVAR, hell on subs, tested for a smallish mod for PBEM, best combined with the TBM-3E variant of the Avenger.

my vote, btw goes to the F4U-4

*crosses fingers for pic to work*

it worked, at least on subs, caused much flooding and little system damage, the Okha is a special item in a special slot with its own production rate, but adding a completely new weapon seems to work (don't know about ground attack, though but i don't see why it shouldn't)
