In china a second gueriila brigade surrenders near Peking ! hoorah these annoyances can
be stamped out, although its taking a lots of units to do it. the tank units in particular
have been excellent operation on the open plains.

Ground combat at 54,30

Japanese assault odds: 114 to 1

Allied ground losses:
592 casualties reported SURRENDERED

We'll go for another attack on johore baru tomorrow as a full division arrived and it appears
Aztez is pulling back from here. Gerogetown days are numbered too. He's been trying to recaptur
and block the north malayan bases. 2 NLF started the clearance and 2 tank units will ensure
that no more allied units try and recapture resources etc. 1/2 ing them over and over . so far
only alor star has been retaken and that doesn't have any to lose.

Piccie of malaya for clarification.

Start of january has seem the fall of george town , now its a race between the new jap div that
reduced georgetown and the escapees from khota baru to kuala lumpur. to impede the allies 4
jap BB's will shell kuantan to kill off as much supply as possible.

Japanese are persuing the allies toward rangoon while 2 jap subs and several nells have sank over
6 TK's trying to evacuate oil and fuel from rangoon .. I boats in particular have been out standing.

Sub attack at 28,34

Japanese Ships
SS I-122

Allied Ships
TK Empire Onyx, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

Meanwhile in malaya the japanese sallies have been putting both johore baru and singapore under
heavy air attack in an attempt to impede supply and in johore barus case to start hurting the
allied infantry based there. reduced forts by one so far, really do need the extra 2 divs to
reduce the forts and take singers.

HK gets bombed weakly but the allied levels are slowly going down .. now canton has been opened
up to roads from the east the clearing div will definately stop any chinese attempts to take canton.
HK is taking much longer than expected.(no matter though).

another CCP guerilla unit surrenders near shanghai. and 3 more routed by tanks back to chinese lines.
the guerillas it seems have been dealt with rather well imo. some extra support has been
sent to china from manchuria , tanks and artillery mainly, the armour is v v useful vs
partisans and the arty will help any attempts to try and drive into china. although i have no idea
if thats even possible with the mod .. advice here would be appreciated.

Ground combat at Georgetown

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 21923 troops, 255 guns, 16 vehicles, Assault Value = 499

Defending force 3912 troops, 27 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 61

Japanese max assault: 990 - adjusted assault: 455

Allied max defense: 55 - adjusted defense: 73

Japanese assault odds: 6 to 1 (fort level 5)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:
10 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Allied ground losses:
278 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Ground combat at Georgetown

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 21887 troops, 252 guns, 16 vehicles, Assault Value = 499

Defending force 3581 troops, 23 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 53

Japanese max assault: 990 - adjusted assault: 1772

Allied max defense: 46 - adjusted defense: 85

Japanese assault odds: 20 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Georgetown base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
72 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

Allied ground losses:
5122 casualties reported
Guns lost 17

In the PI .. NLF units hoovering up the northern bases while 2 divs hold back from manills for
now. more men and material arriving at san marcelano .. will move into clarke soon (hopefully
all in one go) ..

just a quick update today .. next ops

Timor (div +CV's)
Rangoon then invest mandalay.
Singapore then ? maybe ceylon ? definately some to sumatra then squeeze java from 3 sides.
I'll have to start working on the SW Pacific and to that end engineers and BF's are unloading
at truk , just need MEN ! .. When HK falls one div is freed up .. PI or Rabaul (maybe even
port moresby as a fast slash and grab).

bye bye

Rob,
Do you have any idea of how far you want to expand the Japanese Empire before you dig in and prepare for the Allied counter attacks??
India??
Northern Australia??
All of New Guinea??
Eastern Pacific Islands??
New Zealand??
Hawaii??
Russia??

I'm so new to japan i hadnt thought about 'limits' yet

India - possible if singers falls in jan/early feb . will almost certainly at least take ceylon.
I know the mod adds in a lot of 'india only' units but no idea as to thier size.

north aussie . not worth it imo on standard map with the rail road and the australia command units.
as allies i look forward to japan attacking the mainland .

all of NG .. definately on the radar . will be doing it backwards though .. (as an experiment)
i.e PM 1st then gili/lae etc. might leave rabaul to rot till NG is secure. will go for
lunga too.

NZ -nope

Hawaii - nope .. I'm in no position to go into the pac yet .. I had toyed with ignoring the PI
and hitting midway early on (aka nemos game). but im just not aware of what the allies have
anywhere as i have never loaded up the mod as allies (added FOW or stupidity ? take your pick )

Russis is a definate no go zone , with china being a LOT bigger i think my hands will be full
trying to hold there rather than a russia adventure that i dont have enough troops to do.

Thanks for the comments .

Rob

hm Rob, i'm happy to have Northern Oz in my hands... the truth is, enemy can try to counter attack you via railroad but you have plenty of time to bring reinforcements - all you have to do is to keep an eye on railroad (infamous hiting ZOC key)... also, didn't tested yet but i'm not sure that supplying units far away from the bases are so easy?

As Amiral well put it - Northern Australia has to be considered as island... and if Allies want to retake it they must use his CVs otherwise they are without air support...

True about the air support part bar some 4E that i think can reach from alice springs ( i always build this base as allies just in case).. australia might be an option once i have timor and have good recon on the 3 main bases there , darwin is sure to be well guarded but can be cut along the rail line and reduced . wyndam would make a good 1st call imo. so would thingybob . the one closest to Koepang if its badly garrisoned .. albeit unit numbers could be decieving as he might evac dutch bits and bobs here .. we will see. I still have to take sumatra and java 1st .. and i dont think thats as easy as it sounds ..

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/06/42

anyhoo new day .. exactly one month we have been at war and i'm happy to report the brits are
running , suprisingly he left johore baru ? im sure thats a level 4 fort and he could have delayed
here for a few days. also he's legging it in burma. rangoon is down to the fort unit by the
looks of it and hes withdrawing back to mandalay . banzai.

FYI he abandoned north phillipines so i have been hoovering up the bases with an NFL unit.
However ive been carful about not atacking the ones with resources as they change sides
without a fight and i believe are NOT halved by capture .. wonder if JB will do the same.
I'll attack anyway so if im lucky it'll fall before the ground attack phase and i get
all the goodies at 100% .. sneaky

singapore also drops 2 fort levels to a 4 but the 2nd day attack did nothig bar hurt japan.
rest bombard and repeat. sallies stop the forts rebuilding .

Oscars encoutered 1/3 of the AVG in china and did rather well considering

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 10

Allied aircraft
Curtis H81-3A x 14

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
Curtis H81-3A: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

I am fighter short in china , the 1st claude home defence unit has recieved Zeroes and will be
transferred to china as i need to tame the AVG as oscar production still needs 2 more months to
really ramp up .

Heres the usual daylight air raids , obviously the jhore baru missions will be switched to singapore
with 2 chutai on ground attack and 4 on airfield attacks. oscar escort provided. once the base
force reaches johore baru the sallies can be sent to much closer airfields.

Day Air attack on Hong Kong , at 43,42

I consider it important to try and train up as many ASW units as fast as possible . many have been
operating 6 ship TF's around the north philipines and experienced sallies have hit several.
2 more today ! ..

sub tally is definately in japan favour

Java can be a very tough nut, so can Timor but the speed your taking Malaya at Aztez shouldnt have much time to build up fortresses here.

Good job so far :).

Thanks Joe , full division heading to koepang for an early grab .. covered by baby KB and some
heavy surface combat shipping too in case the allies have scraped a surface force together
somehow down here.

Made a typo in the last post it was hong Kong that was cracking not singapore .. sorry ..
Even so, Kuantan fell today and we have trapped 3 units between here and malacca .
3 more allied units made it to malacca but its not undefeneded, 2 tank units will
hopefully repel any unsupported allied attack .

Ground combat at Kuantan

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 20759 troops, 220 guns, 9 vehicles, Assault Value = 422

Defending force 1097 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 8

Japanese max assault: 764 - adjusted assault: 384

Allied max defense: 6 - adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 384 to 1 (fort level 4)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Kuantan base !!!

Allied ground losses:
1619 casualties reported FMSV brigade surrenders

capture 10k supply here too, now thats useful. I will await all combat troops for singapore
before crossing that darn river , is that the best thing to do ? certainly will prevent
multiple shock attacks. Sally hammer i now hitting the fields at singapore , will do better
with more recon attached (i hope )

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 21
Ki-21 Sally x 86
Ki-46-II Dinah x 5

Allied aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 destroyed, 3 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Catalina I: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
89 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Airbase hits 20
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 51

Hopefully bagged another sub near san marcelano . ADP-1 did the dirty :-

ASW attack at 42,49

Japanese Ships
MSW W.9
MSW W.8
MSW W.7
APD APD-39
APD APD-2
APD APD-1

Allied Ships
SS S-36, hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

HK will get another shock attack tomorrow , fall ? doubt it but should tear a few fort levels
down. it'll fall soon i hope .

Japanese forces are now marching on clarke field in strength ( also hopefully in one lump)
should arrive next turn . Both tuagretaro and begulia have fallen intact in the north PI as
i'd hoped , both have 100 resources which i believe are the standard levels and not 1/2'd
from being attacked. so thats the north PI secured .

In the south PI 2 full divs and engineer and tank unit advance on manilla to siege the place
and prevent a withdrawl from clarke to here, also should stop all free supply production
with the hex contested.

Several invasions forces launched in the SW Pac and new guinea . shortlands and lunga are targetted
by 'expendable' SNLF units while the north NG oil centeres should fall to NFL units. Well they
do in stock and recon shows nothing.

I am collecting air droppable paras and the air capable SNLF units at victoria point for a potential
massed air attack on akyab ? if its weakly held . i havnt sent in recon yet so no idea but also
not tipping my hand yet either. IF its well held then they can all be used to secure north sumatra
and i will be building up sabang as a forward air base (its too useful imo) and allies
can build it anyway later on so no loss. should be a great betty base to intercept aussie
bound convoys.

japanese bombers harass the retreating allied troops in burma

Day Air attack on 2nd Burma Brigade, at 31,32

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 8
Ki-21 Sally x 20
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 damaged

Allied ground losses:
42 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

I made a error with KB and it went to a base with no bloody fuel ! situation sorted out
and she'll sail to truk to hunt in the S and SW Pac.

also many many AVG planes spoeed in china, 2 zero datai now tasked with heading here to
try a wrest air control back.

Aztez commented that the guerilla brigades i have killed off will return ? can anyone confirm
if they will come back in chungking ? (good) or behind my lines (bad). should hopefully kill
3 more i have trapped and surrounded tomorrow. i love the wee jap tank units in china for
anti-partisan duty , they rock ! (pinched 2 more from kuantan army to help)

for some odd reason the burmese army stalled at the river line and despite 2 attempts at follow
the leader i gave up and have sent them over independantly , dont have much luck with ground
movement

Hi Rob,

YES - the destroyed Gurerilla units will come back.

I don't think it would be right for me to say where they come back (Aztez may not want me to say)...so you'll just have to see. But the destroyed Chinese units come back.

fair enough , i havnt asked him .. might make a lot of differance to china , although i've now got a 'good' anti patrisan theory that seems to work well so far . should be 'fun' to find out

been rather busy of late .. sorry

anyhoo

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/14/42

Humm well what can i say , after the initial wave its gone all a bit flat. HK stubbornly refuses to
fall while china piles in corps at canton ( 2 divs behind level 6 (and building) forts). Elsewhere
in China its going well and the last partisans have been slaughtered in a nice 'box' trap.

also chinese coastal city fell on the 12th (see piccie).

I am keeping Rabaul from being built too much and killing off a few wirracoffins as a bonus

Naval bombardment of Rabaul, at 61,88

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
Wirraway: 1 destroyed

Japanese Ships
DD Okikaze
DD Kamikaze
DD Yuzuki
DD Kikuzuki
DD Uzuki
DD Asagiri

CL Naka
CL Kashima

BB Nagato

Allied ground losses:
125 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

Airbase hits 3
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 21
Port hits 3
Port supply hits 2

Lunga, shortlands, medan, hollandia and sarong have all been invaded and will fall next turn.

also Kuantan in Timor takes the full weight of a japanese combat division (only 2 allied units
so he had no time to prepare here it seems) .

1st attempt to try and cull the AVG was no entirely succesful .. nates told to go fly well
away from enemy planes for now .

Day Air attack on Changsha , at 47,36

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 27
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 12
Ki-27 Nate x 28

Allied aircraft
Curtis H81-3A x 13

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-27 Nate: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Curtis H81-3A: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

Keeping singapore's heads down (and stopping /slowing fort building)

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 2
Ki-21 Sally x 79
Ki-46-II Dinah x 4

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 4 damaged

Allied ground losses:
76 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 7
Airbase supply hits 1
Runway hits 31

the remaining brits from the north are trapped at mersing with 2 divs closing and 3 tank units
preventing them from entering the city. should be a walk over then massed move to singapore to
reduce the river shock attack rules.

Also rangoon will be assaulted tomorrow (only looks like the rangoon BF there ) as i took andaman
early he wasnt able to move it out and the brit tankers found out the hard way hauling oil out
of rangoon.

In the Phillipines !

Well plan B seems to be working after plan A failed miserably . 2 jap divs and a supporting NLF
entered manilla hex and the allies came howling out of the city only to be horribly repulsed.

Ground combat at Manila

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 40655 troops, 372 guns, 108 vehicles, Assault Value = 1079

Defending force 43607 troops, 520 guns, 14 vehicles, Assault Value = 921

Allied max assault: 1170 - adjusted assault: 989

Japanese max defense: 875 - adjusted defense: 2473

Japanese ground losses:
285 casualties reported
Guns lost 12
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
1678 casualties reported
Guns lost 28
Vehicles lost 3

I am NOT being suckered into attacking back ! way too risky. 20 units in manilla ! also 18
in clarke are now stuck as the japanese move in en-masse ! .. just to top it off a brigade
and a guards batallion will advance along the coast to bataan and seal the allies in place.

Japanese Navy land based planes however are proving utterly useless in the ground attack role !

Day Air attack on 11th DAF Base Force, at 25,57

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 30

No Japanese losses

Aircraft Attacking:
15 x G3M Nell bombing at 10000 feet
15 x G3M Nell bombing at 10000 feet

heavy recon , men landing over the beach (singkawang , west borneo). are they dropping torpedoes ?
happened 2 days running .. maybe the leader is bad ground skill ? welll both were c.18 on ground
skill ! pretty rubbish . however trying to find anyone over about 30 is proving impossible

They probably arent needed anyway and have been switched back to ship strikes although the DEI
look like an allied desert right now. has he been scared off ? .. dunno.

Menado in NE sulawesi has been invaded too, might get some recon planes tomorrow if i get lucky
with the cruiser shelling next turn.

5TH ! attack on the s36 and she refuses to go down permanently !

ASW attack at 42,49

Japanese Ships
PC Ch 22
PC Ch 21

Allied Ships
SS S-36, hits 2, on fire, heavy damage sink damn you !

ground in canton .. looking bad for japan, very glad i got the extra division here !

Ground combat at Canton

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 46598 troops, 551 guns, 7 vehicles, Assault Value = 938

Defending force 76680 troops, 196 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2263 eek !

Allied ground losses:
71 casualties reported

Quick question for the experinced japanese players here , is it worth switching over some merchant
yards to naval as merchant points have built upto 5000+ while naval is languishing at 5 ! ..? or
expand some of the naval yards instead ? (and yes i halted the shinano).

Todays picie is China , now guerilla free ! at least for the moment

there isnt much to report really .. japan is taking some undefended bases around new guinea
and is landing at the 2 remaining timor bases. Lunga will get some CD guns and base
forces + engineers to try and build up asap. as well as having some punch should the aussie
navy show up .. KB is escorting these convoys and accompanied by an oiler have a cruise round
the SW pacific for allied shipping. my subs have detected very little round here but any
convoys sent from america should be arriving around about now in aussie waters . lets hope so

Well there is one major event .. China has invaded indo china ! 3 vietnamese divisions at 30%
strength have been mobilised and the defenders at saigon and haiphong are getting engineer
units flown in from saigon to help building up the forts. lets see how this progresses.
only 3 chinese units detected so far . no enough for saigon but could be a problem for
haiphong ..

piccie of the invasion .. manilla tomorrow (next turn).

Rob,
Enjoying this one and following it closely.  Question for  you:  If you could start over on Hong Kong, what would you do differently?

hi, i converted few merchant shipyards to naval but if you want to keep merchies production in the late 43 (when hordes of transports are waiting to be produced) that might be not a best idea...still few merchY won't make difference (and if you convert small merch Y to naval you can always expand them)

keep up the good work

more than happy to please readers

I'd send in the second combat engineer unit asap. Basically i'd almost sent in the canton base
force by mistake and come turn 2 china had decided to march on canton and the 2nd combat engineers
never made it to HK , whoops ..

also never do shock attacks if you have comber engineers (not needed imo). save a lot on disruption
and fatigue. I should have done regular attack , rest rinse repeat. the sally raids on HK supplies
must have helped a lot too.

hope that helps, always best to learn from others failures

Hi Pauk, i did switch over a couple of small (size 2-4) merchant to naval and expanded them to 4-8. shouldn't make much of an impact
on japanese supply levels at this stage and i'd like to have naval points growing a tiny bit.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions , if and when merchant points ramp up i might turn them off for a few months.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/26/42

Allied Ships
AK Steel Ranger, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Kilty
DD Crane
DD Kennison
DD Crosby
DD Dent

I-8 will move ASAP

Day 1 raid on singapore fields kill off some supply , day 2 did even better with 10 supply hits.
I suspect that the brits might be running a bit low. also time to send in the army in one BIG
wodge . but leave enough back to fend off any opportunisitic allied landing on the malay coast.
One Regiment should do that job efectively.

Ki-21 Sally x 111
Ki-46-II Dinah x 8

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 2 damaged

Allied ground losses:
273 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 11

Finishing off the last ships at manilla port. and we will send in the sallies freed up from

Defending force 55454 troops, 404 guns, 255 vehicles, Assault Value = 1481

and the allies are welcome to fire shells at the troops besieging manilla.

Ground combat at Manila

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 5254 troops, 59 guns, 95 vehicles, Assault Value = 1003

Defending force 51487 troops, 524 guns, 147 vehicles, Assault Value = 1065

Japanese ground losses:
4 casualties reported

Day 2 was a repeat of day one .

Japanese troops should arrive at singapore next turn, all in one go by the looks of it too.

In burma brit troops are trapped in tuang-gui while tanks are ordered into pagan.

Japan secures dili , lautern should get hit tomorrow. (timor)
Maumere also falls.

North NG coast is almost under full japanese control.
Reinforcments are now unloading at Lunga and shortlands.

KB will patrol 150 miles East of Lunga till the oiler arrives (2 days). then
according to that sub attack there might be goodies worth raiding near noumea.

piccie of clarke field .. lots more men than usual.

Allied ground losses:
5748 casualties reported

Vehicles lost 1

Ouch , but expected. at least there will not be any successive shock attacks as everyone arrived
at once (for a change . pleasing change at that).

artillery to start a bombardment while the troops and engineers recover from the river crossing.

Japan needs oil at sometime so brunei has been invaded as there should be a nice store here
after 1 and 1/2 months . BF awaits airlift from saigon for fighter cover.

Coastal Guns at Brunei, 32,57, firing at TF 113
TF 113 troops unloading over beach at Brunei, 32,57

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
AK Tjikarang
AK Silindoeng, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage SUNK
AK Elout, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage SUNK

Japanese troops (2 divs) arrive at pecheng in china (its a wierd new city in the arse end of nowhere
that might be the re spawn ground for the commie guerillas as the number of units here has
increased to 7 ) .. more men on the way + heavy artillery in the form of 150 mm mortars.
At least 1 full chinese corps is here as we bounced off this place early on. bombardment
will reveal the truth tomorrow.

As i seem to be under using the japanese surface forces , new bases have been formed at kutching
in borneo and kendari in sulawesi for japanese surface forces to harass enemy shippin
if it eludes the all conquoring betty.

BB Ise and Hyuga for Kendari and BB Kirishima is at Kutching ( all with CA/CL and DD escorts).
As the Kirishima needs a new paint job (sys 8) she will remain in port for the balikpapan
SC skirmish sent out today.

Shortlands is to recieve fuel and also in time will be a forward SC base. needs AF1 though.

China - 2 more zero datai (54 a/c) sent in to sweep the AVG from the skies above yenen while
the south concentrates on the HI and resources at wuuchow and changsha .

Day Air attack on Changsha , at 47,36

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 26
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 12
Ki-21 Sally x 9
Ki-15 Babs x 2

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 damaged

Heavy Industry hits 5 its a start.

clarke should start showing strains as 60 more sallies will start bombingthe airfields
and supply dumps (hopefully) commanders as about as good as i can find right now.
the IJA pilot pool is ok at 213 the IJN has been empty for quite some time .

question ? is it 'safe' to unload the carrier groups for china training ? as doing this
as allies royally screwed up the air components, but i see japan does it all the time .
is this an allied problem or just that japan has more CV capable units and wont miss
the odd growth spurt some units seem to have .

Up in burma 20 zeros will sweep mandalay at 25k feet (range6) as buffs have been spotted here
might as well use the zero bonus as aztez has been very reluctant to commit any allied air
in this theatre at all.

Akyab --humm .. appears to have only one base force in it . I have concentrated the 2 jap para
and 2 air droppable snlf units at victoria point with both tabby and tina transport planes.
the best ones in the jap inventory imo. should we maybe do a mass drop on akyab and try a suprise
take of it ? It's really ramping up the burma theatre timewise and i have zero reserve in
and nowt in saigon to help too ( bar base forces ) .

both pagan and tuang gui will fall tomorrow too. allied BF will get a shock when a whole jap div
arrives with attitude

LRCAP over singapore also indicates no allied transport planes flying in supply . i'd like to
prevent aztez from using transports to mandalay too but need bases a bit closer to minimise
fatigue.

KB will do a run into new caledonia (she hasnt refuelled yet ,the AO was 1 hex away)fuel levels
are ok for now , 6 hexes from noumea is the target point. AO will follow (slowly) and probaly
refuel KB when it goes back to Truk .

Thats it for today definately .. time to do some serious thinking about buying a new PC as mine
is falling apart at the seams ..

Well KB certainly did some action today !

1st up we were attacked by the perfidious americans .. how dare they stoop so low as to attack
the emperors elite , shame on them.. the shame was on our zero pilots who shot down 2 bombers.
BigB mod being felt quite scarily as waves of dive bombers aimed for the CV's (and missed).
Flak took a toll though.

Day Air attack on TF at 71,110

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 48
F1M2 Pete x 16

Allied aircraft
SBD Dauntless x 6
Beaufort V-IX x 3
P-40E-1-CU Warhawk x 4
A-24 Banshee x 10
B-25C Mitchell x 3
P-40B Tomahawk x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 4 destroyed, 2 damaged
F1M2 Pete: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
SBD Dauntless: 4 destroyed
Beaufort V-IX: 1 damaged
P-40E-1-CU Warhawk: 2 destroyed
A-24 Banshee: 2 destroyed, 6 damaged
B-25C Mitchell: 2 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 9 destroyed

I-171 again hit another loaded merchantman nearing noumea the day before and i was expecting
KB to ravage the rest, allies might have had one turn to unload but KB decided differantly.
A second unspotted convoy carrying the 3rd NZ brigade was clobbered instead !

Day Air attack on TF at 72,112

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 41
D3A Val x 63
B5N Kate x 69

Japanese aircraft losses
D3A Val: 1 damaged
B5N Kate: 4 damaged

Allied Ships
AK Dakotan, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK Puerto Rican, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
AK Arizonan, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
AK Atlanta City, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
PG Tui, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AK Santa Rita, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
AK Georgian, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK Iowan, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage
AK Andrea Luckenbach, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
AK Kohala, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK Atlantic, Bomb hits 1, on fire

Allied ground losses:
788 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

KB will linger ( a bit further from noumea though) for one more turn and 3 more subs closing
on the original convoy will hopefully slaughter a few cripples during the night.

Over in china our fighter sweeps killed off 38 AVG elite planes for the loss of 6 zeros and 3
Oscars.

e.g

Day Air attack on Yenen , at 50,26

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 81
Ki-15 Babs x 1

Allied aircraft
Curtis H81-3A x 16

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Curtis H81-3A: 8 destroyed

allies had moved some AVG down to protect hengchow from the bombers and the resulting fatigue
showed when even lowly oscars picked a few off.

Day Air attack on Changsha , at 47,36

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 12
Ki-21 Sally x 40
Ki-49 Helen x 12
Ki-15 Babs x 4

Allied aircraft
Curtis H81-3A x 34

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged
Ki-21 Sally: 2 destroyed, 3 damaged
Ki-49 Helen: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Curtis H81-3A: 10 destroyed, 9 damaged

Japan can now start a heavy industrial attack on china (which in bigB's mod looks like its an
essential part of japanese ops in china and not the somewhat gamey move it can be in stock)

Burma front .. AKyab collapses under a swarm of japanese paratroopers ( worked out a treat).

Ground combat at Akyab

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 1711 troops, 18 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 85

Defending force 774 troops, 6 guns, 1 vehicles, Assault Value = 1

Japanese max assault: 106 - adjusted assault: 67

Allied max defense: 0 - adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 67 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Akyab base !!!

Allied ground losses:
42 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

I'm keeping it brief for times sake . next turn could be interesting if allies have any CV's they
want to commit near noumea .

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/03/42

In a turn that promised much, it was all a bit of a damp squib, allies lost 3 merchants near noumea
to KB and one to subs. allied air attacks still concern me as 90% of the bombers get through. Fuel
is becoming an issue for now so back to the oiler.

Day Air attack on TF at 73,113

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 44
F1M2 Pete x 13

Allied aircraft
SBD Dauntless x 6
P-40E-1-CU Warhawk x 6
A-24 Banshee x 11
P-40B Tomahawk x 17

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 6 destroyed, 1 damaged
F1M2 Pete: 3 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
SBD Dauntless: 2 destroyed, 2 damaged
P-40E-1-CU Warhawk: 4 destroyed
A-24 Banshee: 1 destroyed, 8 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 6 destroyed, 5 damaged

Japanese Ships
CV Hiryu
CV Akagi
BB Nagato, Bomb hits 1
CV Soryu

Starting to lose a few pilots too. Oh well we gutted a NZ brigade for no real loss.

More importantly singapore started to creak under the 1st 2 attacks :-

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 142388 troops, 1426 guns, 325 vehicles, Assault Value = 2765

Defending force 57599 troops, 341 guns, 11 vehicles, Assault Value = 841

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 5

Japanese max assault: 2597 - adjusted assault: 2080

Allied max defense: 858 - adjusted defense: 1385

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 5)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 5

Japanese ground losses:
2405 casualties reported
Guns lost 78
Vehicles lost 4

Allied ground losses:
3417 casualties reported
Guns lost 68
Vehicles lost 1

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 139768 troops, 1336 guns, 322 vehicles, Assault Value = 2629

Defending force 52154 troops, 263 guns, 11 vehicles, Assault Value = 739

Japanese max assault: 2258 - adjusted assault: 3015

Allied max defense: 731 - adjusted defense: 2628

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 5)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 4

Japanese ground losses:
2980 casualties reported
Guns lost 59
Vehicles lost 4

Allied ground losses:
3572 casualties reported
Guns lost 66

Japan will rest for 2 days while the many 150mm arty guns prevent the allies from doing the same.
then we'll come in again in 2 days time.

Meanwhile piccie of Malaya.

You'll soon find that massed LBA in the form of medium and heavy bombers are the Allies silver bullet against the KB.

Don't hang around Noumea for too long...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/09/42

Aztez and myself were concered about resource boming vs the chinese as in stock this can
reduce china to impotence rapidly and unrealistically imo. In consultation with Big B we have
decided on an historical and interim solution .

the IJN will not fly in china i/e no Zeros and the theatre till 10/43 will be the province
of the army 100%.

This will make attacks more costly (to me) and in return aztez wont dump the RAF in china
(AVG allowed ) in an unrealistic air war. Allies allowed to add one more figher unit too
as an aside agreement as japanese Tony/tojo will make life hard for just the AVG.

Going to make naval pilot training a tad more tricky but i'll live with that so long as
the allies don't swamp chine with fighters.

Okay dokay ..

9th Feb crept up quickly as not a lot happened of note in the past few turns .

The AVG is holding it's own in china vs the last zero attack before we withdraw :-

And on the 10th ! singapore fell !

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 132797 troops, 1165 guns, 323 vehicles, Assault Value = 2264

Great , now the way is open to sumatra and Java ,

With Timor in japanese hands the DEI looks to be doomed !

Now shall i have a go at Sri lanka too ? with burma looking good for now (mandalay will be a bitch
as per usual, although i am sneaking a tank unit behind him ) . 2 more divs would make mandalay
fall IMO, but 3-4 will get srilanka .. and make him definatly NOT reinforce burma.
with the newly available Zeros from china the burma areay army can bomb mandalay into
the ground from rangoon /pagan areas. maybe it can wait will the DEI is over with 1st.

From one Japanese newb to another, I'd say wait until the DEI is over with. Sri Lanka would certainly be nice to have, but you must have the DEI. Someone like pauk or PzB could probably pull it off easily, but the Japanese have less margin for error from what I've seen. I'd play conservative until you have a better feel for the strengths & weaknesses of the Japanese. At least that's what I'm doing.

I'll add:

Rob-sama BANZAI!!!

I don´t think Colombo and Trimcomale (sp?) will do you any good. It´s the place where you will lose more in the end than your opponent. It will be bombed into oblivion out of Madras. First the Allied will take some serious losses but once he´s able to close the airfield it will stay closed. And it´s a perfect place to attack with bombardment TFs. After enough recon those two bases will be nuked, with the home base of those BBs (the British get a lot of BBs early on) also Madras.

I would prefer New Caledonia or the Fidjis. Canton Island perhaps? While you will lose those places sooner or later also, at least it´s harder for your opponent to take them back IMO.

Hi Rob,

Yes the SBD's DO have that range - but the Wildcats Don't - something for everyone to keep in mind and be careful.
