once again, another interesting surface engagement to be anaylized. This time comparing few Large Surface TF's vs multiple Smaller Surface TF's.

anyways...any thoughts on how i should've distributed my warships differently??

Considering the pitiful performance my surface TFs turned in at Wake and Menado I was very happy with this. Admiral Tanaka (my best surface commander) was in charge of the CA TF so he may have effected the outcome. I have a feeling they suprized the fast BBs since they took very little return fire. The only regret is that a lot of the torps hit DDs rather than capital ships.

The DD raid on day 2 was an accident (they were supposed to get there on day 1) but it turned out for the best since the other surface TFs had withdrawn allowing them to got straight for the transports. The icing on the cake was that this now caused the transports to retreat away from the CAP allowing them to be attacked by my LBA.

I wish I could take credit for this and say that it was all my evil plan, but a lot of luck played into the battle.

yeah Commanders are key. I forgot to handpick my surface TF commanders for this battle. I'm pretty bad at that actually, while i always hand pick my CV TF commanders, i have trouble remembering to do the same for my surface TF commanders

i guess it was payback for my Mets taking 2 of 3 from the Phils

He has too much LBA and heavy naval forces bombarding you for this to happen, IMO.

ASW TFs came out on the short end of the stick today. I lost 3 MSWs in exchange for damaging 1 sub. Good thing one of my AC hit and sunk the SS Finback.

Looks like Kennys is starting to bomb my industry in China. I hope he will follow this up with a landing. Does the name "Galipoli" ring any bells?

That is why watching the combat replay is so important to see which ones are more than just near misses.

The Allies have landed at Tainan! This will give them a B-24 base within range of the Souther HI. Things are going to get real bad for me soon. The only good news this turn was that the S-39 finally sunk.

Got a 2:1 at Chungking with a deliberate assault. Now I am kicking myself for not shock attacking. If either of the last 2 attacks got a 1:1 and lowered the forts, this would have been the fatal blow. Hopefully this is just a speed bump on the way to final victory, but the fact that the Allies now have a lvl 5 AF within range of Changsha worries me.

w/ Tainan....a level 5 airbase (w/ 100,000+ supplies) in my hands, Changsha, the major supply hub of the CEA is my crossheirs. I probably only have a turn or 2 to hopefully knock out enough supply at Changsha to put the attacking army at Chungking in the red. The question is....whats the best course of action for my bombers.....

a) hit the airfields at Changsha
b) or hit the resource/HI centers

comments and suggestions will be appreciated

(1) Hit the airfields and
(2) Try to fly ground-attack missions against the Japanese troops at Chungking. If one strike makes it through the Japanese LRCAP over Chungking, it will hit the strongest Japanese unit present and should cause enough disruption. And this could be decisive. If you manage to hold Chungking for just another week you can then systematically destroy his supply-generators. And the he'll never be able to take the city.

Air raids failed to do much damage. This is good since many of my fighters at Changsha refused to fly. They made enough of a show of force to scare the bombers away on day 2.

Elsewhere 2 PCs went from hunters to hunted and were sank by Allied subs.

Once i finish up the conquest of Formosa, i'll be in perfect position to start pounding the Japanese Home Islands. Looking at the map of the Home Islands, i've divided Japan into four strategic bombing sections......

Section A) - P38 Escort Range
Section B) - B24 Range
Section C) - B29 (normal range)
Section D) - B29 (extended range)

I don't expect to be doing much B29 extended range bombing, due to the high lost op rate. So that means Section D will go untouched for the time being. Below i listed the percentage of Japanese Industry thats outside B29 normal range, thereby being spared. Its not much as you can see.

This leaves Section A, B, C where the majority of the Japanese Industry is located. Section A will be the first to be targeted as i expect little resistance there, then Section B, then Section C. I expect Section C bombing raids to have heavy losses, since fighter escort will be non-existent. So when i get to Section C, targets need to be carefully selected to do the most damage to the Japanese industry, as i won't be able to keep up daily raids pounding everything insight.

So targets in Section A should be selected based on the precentage of damage to the Japanese Industry, that will be compounded the greatest... when i get to Section B, then Section C. So looking at the percentage of Japanese Industry w/in Section A, i see that HI, Armaments, Vehicles, Georges, Kawasaki Eng. are my best targets. Better yet these target precentages (which are compounded on the map) carry over well to Section B. So when i move onto Section C my targets will remain the same.

This means i expect the results of my Strategic bombing campaign in the next 6-9 mos to yeild the following results
- 98% reduction of HI
- 100% reduction of Armaments and Vehicle Production
- 100% destruction of George Production
- 97% destruction of Kawasaki Eng. Production

Kenny has begun the reduction of China's industry. Looks like he will be responsible for them becoming communits after the war due to their poor treatment by Western Imperialists.

I have been backed into a corner and forced to fight at the same time Kenny was willing to risk his fleet in an offensive. Prior to this we both kept out fleets out of harm's way.

Soon you will also see big air battles as I am no longer able to pull my AC back out of range of the 4E bombers, especailly next week when the Allies get B-29s.

I have written my fleet off as dead so anything they take down with them is a bonus.

Not the most inspirational message from an admiral to his sailors.

Come on, I give them pretty headbands and Sake along with the "You country will remember you" speech.

Notice that the Admirals never go on the suicide missions.

Since Allied command has decided to suppress the knowledge of the naval diaster at Paramushiro Jima, for fear of losing support at home for the war....we will instead talk about my strategic bombing campaign in China

Below is a screen shot showing the HI, Resource, and Oil Centers that i have hit thus far in China. The goal is to reduce the daily supply generated from these center which help keep the CEA going. Hopefully this will be enough to halt the Japanese offensive on Chungking.

As you can see i've destroyed about 60% of the Industry in China. Unfortunately there's not much more i can reach w/ my B24's so at best 2/3 of the Chinese Industry will be reduced to rubble. This means that the Japanese will be deprived of about 4200 supply points per day, which equals 29,000 per week, or 126,000 per month.

Had i been in this position a month early, this may have made a difference in the battle for Chungking, but somehow i doubt this is gonna be enough.

Very strange thing happened today. A single Sally on Naval Search got through the Uber CAP and hit the CV Franklin:

Ki-21 Sally has spotted Franklin at 75,36
Franklin is reported HIT

I think the pilot is lying.

Allied CVs raided Toyahora and sank 16 AKs unloading there.

I tried sneaking some Bettys to Menado to hit a spotted convoy but they got creamed on the ground before they could do anything. They few that survived and attacked all missed their targets.

If this amount of LBA get in range of the Home Islands, somebody is going to feel some serious pain.

Sad thing is that this was a small raid. These planes were just the ones he could spare to deal with a rear area target.

I am not looking forward to the 1,000+ raids that will be coming to the Home Island soon.
