In China the Allied units at Tientsin have been given orders to withdraw to Peking to defuse the situation. The Japanese have agreed to withdraw to Tsingtao. We will have to see if the Japanese can keep their word...

The Chinese mobile army has finally assembled at Kaifeng. They will rebuild while awaiting the opportunity to strike at the Japanese invaders.

2 more AKs arrived at Cebu to pick up more of the US Base Force. The first has already sailed. The subs at Manila seem to have driven off Martin's surface forces. I am trying to sneak some supplies in while my subs hold them off. I think he must have a lot of damaged ships clogging his yards because he seems to be scared of my subs...

All units seem to be withdrawing from Tientsin. As soon as Martin's last unit gets clear my troops will return. They have stopped North of the river. C Brigade of Chinese 3rd Division will detach from the Mobile Army and head for Wuhan to secure the river crossing. An HQ unit is moving from the Burma Frontier to give the appearance of a defence at the last remaining crossing point.

The large number of units Martin has at Manila are a worry. They are capable of causing me a lot of problems when Manila eventually falls as they could overwhelm me wherever he decides to send them.

Here is Hong Kong now that all assigned units have arrived.

Great AAR Goodboyladdie!

Thank you very much! Wolfie has hopefully sorted his PC problems so we'll be starting a later campaign with a back burner (turn a week!) game. I plan to do one for that too as WPO turns do not take very long. The increased air units in the later scenarios should give me a little more to write about. The Brits/CW/French/Dutch will start off neutral in the new game too.

BB Rhode Island has been stuck on 1 sys damage point in Seattle for ages. I have tried forming her up in a tf and disbanding (twice), which usually works, but not this time. I can wait no longer, as I do not know in which direction Martin will go next. She sailed with 3 DDs to join her two sisters in North Force at Dutch Harbor.

I have cancelled the SOPAC force's orders to bombard Kwajalein as I cannot afford to take too much damage as these ships will need to be fit to fight in the DEI. They will bombard Ponape instead as it's the distraction that I am after as they shift location. 3 AKs are unloading further elements of 119th USN Base Force at Rabaul. 2 more are unloading 5000 tons of supplies as the ANZAC build up continues. I have subs out in an arc at Admiralty Islands, Kavieng and one other location to warn of a Japanese approach.

Here is a screenie of this BB's latest escape. An escort counter-attacked but did no damage.

The Jap sub at Cam Ranh Bay has gone. As I was allowed back into Tientsin this turn (orders issued), it points to Martin not wanting to antagonise the French or British further. I think he is going to go for the DEI or the Central Pacific next. Manila will need to hold out as long as possible to buy me time to deploy. As you can see from the latest battle screenie from Manila, he really wants the place!

S-2 has refuelled at Canton and is heading for Takao. S-14, which was patrolling Saipan, now has sys damage of 11 so is withdrawing to Singapore to undertake repairs.

1st Cav has finished loading at San Diego. The ships are just topping off with supplies and will hopefully get underway this turn. They are performing a dog leg South of Canton Island on their way to Rabaul to refuel. The 2 Armoured Cruisers from Dutch Harbor finally arrived at PH. USS Seattle joined the patrolling force, while USS Missoula disbanded to repair slight system damage.

Here is a screenie of the summary screen.

S-3s last torpedoes failed to detonate and she has sailed to Canton to rearm. RAF 20 Squadron has loaded onto an AK at Singapore and will sail with 5 DDs for Hong Kong.

Martin has gone quiet in China. He is struggling to overcome Manila, so perhaps he is moving his forces to help out? My units in Manila are suffering very few disruptions when he attacks. I think he is short on supplies and needs to build up supplies while bombarding me from land, sea and air to heavily disrupt my troops to counteract the effect of the urban hex.

Here is a mouse over showing what he has at Takao. I hope my luck with torpedoes will change as I really need to whittle down his Navy until I can commit my main fleet to the action. I am waiting for PPs to build up to allow me to assemble enough troops to hop to Wake...

1st Cav Div is finally at sea. ML Baltimore and 3 DMs arrived back at Mare Island. They re-armed and are off to lay a minefield at Dutch Harbor. BB Oklahoma finished repairs and joined the ready force off Pearl Harbor, along with 2 more DDs. The 2 new BBs should arrive next turn so it will be time for me to make a decision on splitting my modern force and sending some to the DEI.

Here is a list showing the LCUs due. Within a month I should have enough available to think about offensive operations in the Central Pacific. I have started loading large supply convoys for PH, Anchorage, Pago Pago, Sitka and Juneau. I should have enough transports back at Mare Island in 25 days to start moving my new LCUs forward.

The BB shown being hit below was not heavily damaged. The torpedo only achieved a belt armour penetration, with no secondary damage or fires. The counter attack by 2 of the escorting DDs caused damage of 7/4 to S-2, so she will remain on patrol at Takao.

I am toying with idea of sending a unit North to reconquer Martin's recent gains in Northern China. I have very few mobile assets and a couple have quite low morale so I am not sure...

Just the Combat Report, such as it is, for now. Martin is away until Tuesday so I shall take my time with the turn...

BBs Nevada and Pennsylvania arrived at Pearl Harbor today. They joined the ready force with 4 more DDs I am still thinking about splitting my modern fleet and sending a portion to the DEI, but I am leaning towards keeping my modern ships concentrated in support of a cross Pacific strategy.

A minelaying task force of an AV and 2 DMs has laid a new minefield at Midway and is heading back to Mare Island.

Nothing much is happening elsewhere, now that Martin seems to have decided to stop antagonizing the British. My sub blockade of Manila also seems to be working well. He must be hurrying more supplies in to help him achieve the reduction of Manila. I smell an opportunity to cause some havoc. However, I must wait for more subs and DDs to arrive...

Thanks very much T. It means a lot coming from someone as ... er... discerning as you.

If it makes you miss the game, the offer of a backburner later campaign still stands...

I think the urban hex is really screwing this up. How built up was Manila in 1922?

There is not a lot happening I am afraid.

The bulk of my supply convoys out of Mare Island should sail next turn.

I have ordered the 2 AKs approaching Manila to split into individual task forces and run in at full speed to try to get some supplies through, but Manila is in no immediate danger of running out of supplies. I am very tempted to run my CLs out of Canton to raid the sea lanes to the PI, but must resist and wait for my DDs to return. Next turn, any US DDs at 1 or less system damage will cruise to Canton to join the fleet there and I will start to look for trouble again.

As Martin seems to have stopped offensive action in China I have decided to detach 1st Chinese Cav Corps. They will move North to cause trouble and hopefully stop Martin from freeing up too many forces for the Manila siege. War Plan Orange seems to be working, apart from the fact I fell back to Manila instead of the Bataan peninsula.

I seem to be taking a nice toll of Dixie's destroyers. With my reinforcements arriving in 9 days time, it will not be long before I have an advantage in light forces in the main theatre of operations.

Edit: Apologies if this blurry. It was fiddly trying to get it as big as I could with the small file size. Has Matrix changed the size allowable recently? This type of screenie used to fit with no problems.

My supply convoys are finally away from Mare Island. 40,000 tons arrived at Pearl Harbor today and another 100,000 is on the way. PH also finally reached a size 9 Port.

The first two upgraded DDs left Singapore for Canton. I'll start raiding as soon as they arrive. I'd prefer to wait for at least 6, but need to keep Martin on his toes.

Martin was lucky at Manila. He nearly lost one of his newest Battlewagons. My AKs are passing Bataan, so he know they are there. Let's hope my subs can hurt him if he comes for my transports...

12500 tons of supply are almost unloaded at Kodiak Island. They'll need another convoy to get over 20000. CA Missoula finished repairs at PH and has joined her sister in the ready force. This task force now numbers 24 ships, so I'll have to split it soon.

My AKs are discharging at Manila. Some Jap cruisers are moving towards Manila from the South.

20000 tons of supplies have arrived at Hong Kong and 2 more US DDs reached 1 sys damage at Singapore and are cruising to Canton.
