Im noticing very similar resutls when Japs bomb my airfields at that height in WitP too

Yeah, I think this is another case of SAIEW, though we are discussing some options.

SAIEW?

Now as the Kate has almost Twise the Range as the Dountless, did the Jap aircrafts Strike First in that CV battle in previus pages ?
Or how did it go?

Very nice to see the torpedo loadouts on those screenshots.

I think it was mentioned already, but the first thing I'll mod before I start any game is to set the capacity of the Jap CVE's to zero torpedoes (unless they fix that before release). Should be a fast and easy fix in the new editor.

If that is truth and it will be possible to edit the torpedo numbers then clap clap! to the team. "Less hardcode the better" should be a Motto.

Oh, brilliant. It seems my guess about this being doable was right.

Of course, lets not forget that its not only the IJN CVL/CVEs that need this 'tweak'...though I think itll hurt them far more.

Smart people than I will probably post some list of exactly what ships need to be modded. And given that it is SOOO easy to do in the editor, I wouldn't be surprised if the AE team just fixes it before release. But who knows...

As I've been reading this, I notice that A2A engagements are producing far less kills than in stock.  I take it you have done something to eliminate the 'turkey shoot' syndrome that turns every stock air battle into a bloodbath then?

Even better - really our #1 team priority for AE was to fix the "Uber Air Battle" syndrome. And after a redesign and then a fair amount of testing and tweaking - I think we actually have fixed it. So no more 100xB-17 strikes with 100xTony shooting down 50xB-17. We've tested up to the 300x4EB versus 300xFighter and still no Uber effects ... same for 300xFighter versus 300xFighter.

In fact IJN CVE could carry and launch planes with torpedo IRL, see for example Hosho equiped with B4Y1 until June 42. Jap player should have this possibility.

The ability to carry a torpedo bomber has nothing to do with the ability to arm them with torpedoes.

It carried Jean, because only that particular biplane bomber was able to launch from her short flight deck carrying torpedo...

Actually I think it carried the B4Y1 because it was incapable of launching the D3A, and the B4Y1 was more capable as a bomber than the D1A.

Certainly Ryujo carried both T13 and T97 attack aircraft (torpedo bombers) durinf her service ... but I have seen no direct evidence or any torpedos on board. During the opeartions against China, most if not all of the aircraft carried on board the Ryujo were fighters.

Actually looks like the translated chapter is the source for the forum discussion. Regardless, still no hard data on the smaller Japanese carriers.

And thus, not relevant to earlier claims about IJN light and escort carriers.

Number if ever planned IMO would be between 1 to 2 attack missions per torp. plane. But the first link i posted talks about use of torpedos planes(in Japanese definition B5N's were "Attack Planes" and not strictly torpedo planes) w/torpedos in CVL's. It appears only one or two times that happened, so i would say that is the best option to not include them. We also don't have restrictions on maximum strike package per carrier so the carriers are already too much deadly at first strike while typically things could much more confused.

I have at least a rumor now (via Nik from Shores) on Ryujo carrying torps during the opening months, though not using them. And good data (Hata/Izawa) on Junyo attacking Hornet with torpedos at Santa Cruz. So we will keeping hunting away.

The fact is the loadouts varied. The problem with documents even US ones there always the (pre-war & war time) standard loadout but, in war almost nothing carried a standard loadout, it would vary by the mission, available supplies, dates, etc, etc. Logistics were not the strong points of the Japanese, by late 1942 I'll bet nothing in the Japanese Army or Navy contained a standard load out. Even in Iraq today a combat infantry squad doesn't carry what some peice of paper in the Pentagon says they should carry (they carry more).

Hi Guys,

Thought this might help. Here is a website I found that gives some type of detail of the types of planes each Japanese carrier had at different points in the war...

Belotes' "TITANS OF THE SEAS" reports some of the smaller Jap CVE's carrying those bipe torpedo bombers and using torps..Played havoc against merchant ships in the Indiana ocean, IIRC..

The IJN escort carriers were used as aircraft ferries and convoy escorts. The closest anyone of them ever came to a combat zone was when the Taiyo ferried aircraft to the Solomons.

Yeah, I think this is another case of SAIEW, though we are discussing some options.
