I would like to have a better idea of which modes of play are going to be used.

There are 5 modes of play:

Solitaire - you play both sides and make all decisions.

Head-to-head (Hotseat) - two players use a single computer, with the players taking turns moving their units/making decisions using the same mouse and keyboard.

AI Opponent - the player takes one side and the Artificial Intellengent Opponent plays the other.

NetPlay - 2 to 6 players with each player having his own computer; there are game 'sessions' where all the players log into the game and communicate their decisions using the internet.

PBEM - Play by email for 2 players, with all decisions communicated via email (an option to temporarily switch to NetPlay if they so desire).

Which mode of play do you expect to use?

Could you please put your answers in percentages? It would be nice it the percentages added up to 100% too.

Short and simple answers would be best for this thread. If there are other discussions on this topic, I would prefer a new thread (or some other existing thread) be used.

I expect to play mostly NetPlay and AI Opponent.
A little Solitaire maybe too, but I don't expect to ever play PBEM mode.

Solitaire : 10% (always good to try things)

Head-to-head (Hotseat) : 0% (I have the room for the game, so prefer to play the cardboard game if my friends can come to my place -- but this may change if I move to a smaller place)

AI Opponent : 35% (for the enjoyment fast plays / no pain, pure lasyness)

NetPlay : 55% (with my best friends that are too far from my home, and the pleasure of not having to bother with the rules)

PBEM : 0% (can't think of having to wait for the next move. For me WiF FE can only be played live )

Solitaire - 5% (to play with things not to play a game)

Head-to-head (Hotseat) - 10% (when my brother is on leave)

AI Opponent - 60%

NetPlay - 25%

PBEM - 0% (but maybe it will take some of the net play time, it depends on how well this option works... I would think it would be to clunky)

This is in terms of TIME I spend playing it. Not really how I think effort should be made. In other words Solitaire might be 5% of my time, it would likely be 1% of my care or concern for the game.

I play WiF live right now, so assuming that keeps up:

Solitaire - 30%

AI Opponent - 40%

NetPlay - 30%

Most of which is for me to game out ideas I want to use in live games.

At First

Solitaire 5% or less
Hotseat 0%
AI Opponent 70-75%
NetPlay 25% (or zero depending on preferences of my friend who will buy the game)
PBEM 0% (or 25% depending on preferences of my friend who will buy the game)

The total of NetPlay and PBEM should be 25%

After I have had it a while

Solitaire 25%
Hotseat 0%
AI Opponent 25%
NetPlay 25% (guessing)
PBEM 25% (guessing)

The total of NetPlay and PBEM should be 50%

Steve, I can spare you the time of putting the results of this survey into a spreadsheet if you want.
I already begun however.
Just tell me when you want me to mail you the sheet.

Solitaire 30%
Hot Seat 70%

I have never tried NetPlay or PBEM, but would probably use one or both of those if Hot Seat proved too difficult to organise.

80%, (ultimately this depends on the quality of the AI and the availability of human opponents)

20%, (But why only two player PBEM ?)

Thanks, yes, please. Let's give it a week before generating any summry, so the frequent visitors to the forum get an opportunity to reply.

solitaire 50%.
PBEM 50%.

as time goes on, and assuming PBEM works pretty well, I would expect PBEM to increase and solitaire to decrease.

AI, almost completely -- though I'd play solitaire if you think there'll be no AI.

I will play vrs the AI to learn the mechanics of the UI.  Probably once or twice.
I will play a good friend of mine who I played WiF with for 15 years PBEM/Netplay.  Probably 5-10 games
I may play random people I meet here in multi-country Netplay.     1-2 games perhaps leading to several.
Solitare?  Nah, I can use Vassal for that.
Hotseat?  Well, its easier to play over the board, and set the game up

So:

Vrs AI:  10%
PBEM/Netplay, 2 people:  70%
Netplay, 7 people:  20%   But could eat into the PBEM/Netplay if it proves to be fun.
Solitare:  Never.
Hotseat:  Never.

Solitaire - 5% Seems like it would come in handy to try different build strategies. Wouldn't play it for a War though.

Head-to-head (Hotseat) - 5% My group plays our grand strategy game with a LAN setup now. We'll probably do the same with MWiF. On days only 2 can make it, we'll try doing this.

AI Opponent - 20% Try things out.

NetPlay - 70% This is where the fun will be.

PBEM - 0% I have seen your threat explaining how this works, don't think it's for me.

Solitaire: 10% (until such time as the option of split scale is offered in MWiF, then 20%)
Head-to-head: 10%
AI Opponent: 20% (until split scale, then 10%)
NetPlay:50%
PBEM: 10%

Assuming split scale is ever offered, I would use it to explore possibilities inherent in the position over-the-board. Definitely, Netplay is my strong preference for MWiF.

That means 50% / 40% ?
55% / 35 % ?

Statistics need hard data.
