It would be certainly interesting to know more what is happening in central and south Pacific.
I hope Nik will bring his contribution in this AAR.

When something interesting happens, we might see something appear here. Right now its just crickets and dolphins.

Burma Front

We tried our first real "sweep" of the war - 23 Oscars over Rangoon - AVG+Beefalos and Blenheim cleaned us up nicely - we lost 4 - they lost none. Guess we don't have to worry about the "sweep bonus" being too strong!!!

Hong Kong
OMG - HK finally fell. The 38ID will start replanning for "Merek" on the NW tip of West Java.

Central China
We killed one little unit, the AVG+Chinese bombers are trying big bombing raids around Sinyang, but still not doing much. We will shift more strength SE of Sinyang and try to advance through there to Nanyang.

North China
We bashed up a little unit but didn't kill it.

South China
Ditto - we are advancing on Chuhsein.

Try setting the Oscars for the Troposphere Altitude setting...

On a historical pace I see...Wonder why it took you so long? My last few starts I take it by the 11th or 13th.

Hmmm --- I enter the hex, Bombard with everyone for a day. Next day I rest the 38ID and Engineers...and on the third day I deliberate attack. All the while the AF at Canton is Ground Attacking.

I had Oscars at 23,000 ... you think they will do better higher? The Allies seem to have been at 14,000. I would think that diferential would be fairly optimal.

Nik wanted me to "hurry" so I think I shocked right after I arrived. Then continuous bombarment followed by shock every 2-3 days until finally done. Only bombed when attacking, bombers didn't seem to accomplish much regardless.

Ackk....don't shock attack the British. Their firepower will take a toll...I prefer the Deliberate Attack first...possibly followed by a Shock the next day if the odds were 1-1 or better...The defender will be disorganized when the Shock hits.

China

In North China we trashed - but did not kill the 7th Army Group HQ, we are sending a small Armor unit to try to finish it off in clear terrain.

Around Sinyang, our artillery park is taking a toll, our reinforcements are moving up. Perhaps we can turn Sinyang into a (Chinese) killing ground, but we need to move fast, before he shows up with a "telephone phone". Oh, also, over Sinyang our Oscars shot down three AVG planes losing one of our own. Boyington, was about, but we only damaged him.

In South China, both sides bombed and repositioned. We are headed for Chushien.

Malaya
We killed a British Battalion on the West Coast with one of our Recon Battalions. In the Center we pushed back two disrupted Brigades with two of our disrupted Regiments. We unleashed our Sallys and bombed all along the front line where as the Brits concentrated their bombers on the center, but our attack worked anyway - this time.

Luzon
Empty Lingayan falls to our forces. Not sure what the American plan is on Luzon, looks like they are scattered out all over - 5 units at Clark 7 units to the East, 5 South of Manilla, not too many in Bataan or Manilla, interesting. We will send one unit over to Iba and await our last reinforcing Regiment before deciding whether or not to go after Clark next.

China

The Chinese seem to be trying to mass more forces at Sinyang, but so are we, I think if we hurry we might be able to bounce them out of the hex. If so, this would set us up to go after Nanyang to the NW.

Malaya

We will try to cover cap our front line this turn to see if we can get lucky and bag a few unescorted bombers. The Nates will cover the West Coast, the Oscars, the East Coast.

Our forces will continue moving South across the entire front.

Production

Had to turn off the Musashi, our Naval Points took a 200 point nose dive that turn, something new must have come on line and started sucking up the naval points. We accelerated the Shoho a few turns back and promised her to Nik by Jan 21st, so we want to keep that promise.

Also had to turn off Betty's for a turn or so. There are 56 in the pool and 72 Nells, so we're not hurting for "Netty's" right now. But i am running low on HA32 engines and want to keep the Sallys comming off the line at full speed, only 14 of them in the pools. There will be over 110 HA32 Factory Capacity soon, so no problem eventually, just for a few turns there will be a pinch.

If you can't bounce the Chinese out of Singyang right away are you gonna do anything else while Singyang becomes a meat grinder? Or are you just gonna keep sending guys in and then attack? I think you should send most of your arty units to Singyang, because the Japanese definitely seem to be able to outgun the Chinese...so bleed em there, then maybe later on you can encircle them? Looks like a prime location for encirclement.

BTW, compliments on the AAR, you're making it really fun to read. I'll be following this whenever I have the time.

China

We attacked SE of Sinyang and routed the small Chinese Corps there out of the woods. Of course this also had the affect of hastening the enemy in the direction they want to go. Now they can "retreat" into the Sinyang hex and sit - or they can retreat in there and then keep on going back to Nanyang. But at least we've cleared the wood SE of Sinyang.

Thailand
We shot down one AVG plane and several Blenheims over our base at Rahaeng. This makes the ratio of Oscar to "P40ish" planes 7 Oscar lost to 4 "P40ish" lost.

Malaya
We continue marching South, looks like the Brits are mostly following the "bug out" plan but keeping a light screen of units in front of us to keep us from "zooming" South and also providing "spotters" for the Allied bombers.

Nik had some excitement on his side of the map, but I'll leave it to him to relate those events.

So 1941 comes to a close. No big surprises thus far in terms of our attack on the SRA.

Hi Joe,

What is your Burma Strategy......in stock...Burma was easy(for the Japanese)..... due to all the easy road movement.....but in AE the allies will have time to build a sound defence......what are you marching where?.....or are you looking to go by sea after Singapore falls?

Actually, in stock, I found Burma, or any of the historically captured areas, to be tough for the Japanese. If you try to take the historical areas, with the historical forces, on the historical time table, I've always found it tough in stock.

And yes, I think it is tougher in AE. My formula, in AE, is to use greater than the historical forces and hope that works - we will see if it does!!!

Admiral Nik-omoto is a man of few words.....and even fewer posts.

Admiral Nik-omoto is a busy man.

Admiral Nik-omoto doesn't like it when pesky Allied players attempt to interfere in his plans.....especially when those forces can't defend themselves.

Admiral Nik-omoto hates sneaks......especially Ozzie sneaks.

Admiral Nikomoto had not forgotton the suprise raid on Tarawa invasion Butai.

So here we are in the sleepy sunny Coral Sea........not so sleepy anymore. Admiral Nik-omoto is in the House.

Red lines show my simotanious invasions. Green line to first arrow shows Kido Butai covering these invasions. When sneaky un-honorable Ozzies don't show up to be blown up.......KB heads south to come knocking maybe on Brisbane, or Sydney. I'll give Cold Chisel something to write a song about!

China

One small Chinese unit destroyed in Central China a medium sized one bounced out of our rear area in North China and our drive continues towards Chuhsien in the South.

Malaya
Biggest air battles of the war on land side. Lots of our Sallys covered by Nates and Oscars bombing the British front and rear, intercepted by a fair number of Beef-a-lows. And Allied bombers hitting us covered by more Nates and Oscars. Losses were 6 Sally II and 5 Sally I, against 5 Beef-a-lows and 4 Blenhiems. We had the vastly larger number of attacking aircraft, so though heavy, we accept our losses under these circumstances.

Our troops (5ID, 18ID, 56ID, IGD and now joined by 21ID) continue their drive South towards Singapore.

Our armored vanguard shifted a British Battalion out of the line on the Western Coast.

Production
We turned the Musashi back on last turn, Shoho due in 5 days, call it 08 Jan 42 in game terms.

The red arrows show our planned lines of advance.
The yellow arrows show expected Chinese lines of advance.
