Yes but most manuals written by programmers truly suck. Ever read microsoft's manuals? They are terrible.

Agreed. Then I dare to say that I wrote better manuals than MS ...

Of that I have no doubt. Adobe also does terrible manuals. I have a manual for Photoshop Elements written by someone else that is quite good.

I have read several David Baldacci books in the last few months. I have enjoyed most of them.

Which one was that?

Luftwaffe - Creating the Operational Air War 1918-40, by James Corum.

Purported to destroy a slew of the myths about the inter- and early-war Luftwaffe, it's poorly argued and written. Call me old-fashioned, but if you want to debunk "conventional wisdom", you have to present evidence to the contrary. The author fails to do so.

He's an obvious Luftwaffe fanboy, and it shows.

One gets out of a book what one expects. I found it well argued, objective and thought provoking. Aspects of his arguments show up in other texts, including Bergstrom and Shores.

Ah, ok. I thought it was job-related.

It doesn't matter which war, just that it's The War and it's used to entertain/bore the grandchildren. It's just The War, something that you experienced and your grandchildren can also experience through the medium of long rambling stories.

For added effect, The War can actually be a composite event. Featuring the Cold War, Gulf War and a night out in Portsmouth for example.

Switch off Shaun the Sheep kiddies grandpa's going to tell you about a night out in Port Canaveral during The War...

Port Canaveral. I know that locale. Was it the {censored} or {censored}?

No, I meant the q's that people ask are so mind numbingly dumb, they're just too lazy to RTFM. Or serach on the forums/fora for the answers.

is it just me or are people just damned lazy to RTFM? Okay, if you don't undertsand something that's fine but some of the q's asked are just mind-numbingly dumb.

lazy. You can appreciate this.....GF told me her friend (who manages an IT group) got a call one weekend about a server that stopped responding. They didn't know what to do. "Did you read the contingencies manual?" she asked. No. If they had they'd have known that all they needed to do was reboot the server.

And to think i can't get a job in IT.

I need the extra java today.  I've been up way too late the last two nights, finishing the new Wheel of Time novel, "The Gathering Storm."  Number 12 in the series, and the author died after writing number 11.  The new writer they brought in to finish up this one, and two more books did a fantastic job, IMHO.
