Good morning, T.  I haven't gone to bed yet....watching the end of a baseball playoff game.

Sounds like you have some "history" with Mr. October.

So, some bright spark comes up with the National Schools Film Week. Of course none of the little darlings would type nsfw.com (don't do it at work!) by mistake. Doh!

OK, so.....silly question. What is the difference between a Cargo TF and a Transport TF?

Cargo is for cargo: fuel, supply, oil, resources.

Transport is designed to move troops efficiently by sea. They have to be in Strat Move mode.

So you cant load oil and resources in Transport TFs. I know you can load fuel and supply in Cargo TFs (I tried it).

Thats a scary thought. That would pretty much mean that the feature doesnt work.

Actually, no. Setting a destination does not allow you to set a Patrol zone. Setting patrol zones is how you get reactions. It seems to work well, and gives the player a way to prevent reactions when they are unwanted.

So if I'm sending a sub out from Manila, I dont say "go here"....I say "patrol from hither to yon". Right?

Is there any sort of loading advantage if you transport say resources in cargo as opposed to transport?

I don't believe you can load resources into a transport TF. Just troops and supplies. And there are quite a few efficiency advantages to using transport TF over amphibious TF. See the manual section on TF Loading.

Actually, this was the post I meant to reply to.

Pretty much. Set the sub patrol TF's home port, then set a patrol zone. You can use 1, 2 or 3 zone markers to outline where you want them to patrol. I frequently will just set the first zone hex, so the sub will go to that hex and patrol in that hex and up to it's reaction range. Then, be sure to set the reaction range (max of 1 for subs). They will return to their home port when they are low on fuel, ammo, or take non-trivial damage.

You can load oil and resources in transport TFs. I don't think there's any difference between transport and cargo TF. Not sure why it was included, probably the AI uses different scripts for both TFs.
