Ok, let's all calm down. We understand that different people are willing to spend different amounts on the game. There's no problem being up front about this. If we knew what every possible customer was willing to pay, we could quickly calculate out where we would make the most profit and Matrix would be foolish to price it anywhere else (unless by gaining additional customers for this game it was serving as advertising for future purchases). Of course we don't have that info. Getting a few data points from a few customers is nice, but really is not a scientific survey of customer behavior so I doubt anyone is going to make too much of it, or take it as an indication of the market at large. Ideally I would like to see the game priced so that many more players could enjoy it, but since I think games like this are price inelastic, and since we (and Matrix) make our livings selling these games, we have to price it to maximize income, not number of units sold. If you don't like this game then any price is too much. If you end up liking this game and play it until you tire of it, you could end up playing for hundreds, even thousands of hours. The very first War in Russia game that was published in 1984 cost $79.95. That game was the monster of it's time, but does not compare to this game in terms of the number of hours of expected gameplay. But none of that really matters. In the end Matrix will price the game to maximize profits. For those that feel the ultimate price is too high, you can always wait a year or two and likely be able to pick it up during a holiday sale. If you're unsure whether you will like it, there's plenty of information available on the game, and more info that will be coming. You can also follow the forum and see the reaction of those that buy the game. This conversation seems to happen with any much anticipated release, but I don't think there is enough new data to impact things one way or the other.

At the end of the day this is just a game, you buy it or you don't buy it that is your choice. I have been waiting for years for a decent Easten Front game at divisional level. & this does look to be exeptional so I am going to purchase it. Matrix will announce the price when they are ready and at that point I will make my descision to either purchase immediately or if I feel that it is more than I am willing to pay at that time save up until I am able to purchase, however not having kids it will probably mean that I am going to be using my card as soon as it is released.

Lutzow - I apologise unreservedly for my outburst. You don't deserve to be spoken at like that - but I'm not a hypocrite

Talking about the 1984 War in Russia game, I still have the original boxed version with diskette at home well preserved! Joel is sure right about us old wargamers that we are willing to pay whatever price within reason for the WiTE game. And I am still playing War in Russia every week!

I don't get it...knew I'd say what? And how did you know I'd say "it"?

You still have the original version with box, that has to be worth something! What was the manual like?

I still have the manual from WiR.
It was a great source of information, mostly the reinforcement tables and used heavily.
I had to patch it a few times, but still in working condition. :)

Oh my, finaly it will find a successor. Cant wait.

I will buy it when the patches stop coming out.

As with most PC games, there's little point in playing a game whilst it's still being patched heavily, as most new releases do in the first few times.

(This assuming that Matrix and Grisby do not think they have a unique thing in the galaxy in their hands and over price it. As someone said above, a luxury item it's not really needed , and I won't go out of my way to buy it.)

(I'm also more than a little suspicious about this thing of wanting to include every single piece of equipment, for 'realism' I assume. Right. As if anyone could actually know for sure how many pieces of equipment most units had at a specific point in time. It reminds me of those over detailed OOB's in ancients games.)

Not every piece of equipment is modelled. I read somewhere for example, that Elefants were not in the game because there were so few and suffered greatly from infantry attack and reliability

They are definitely in the 1943 campaign, and 2 battalions should appear as reinforcements in the 1941 and 42 campaigns.

They are in the game, but come with units (653/654 Hvy PzJg), no production. Otherwise, yes not every piece of equipment is in the game... but system allows to have it all.

can you remember what you paid for WIR way back when? I purchased it when I was single so the price never registered but after I was married and picked up "second front" my wife reminded me for 2 months about the $50.00 budget shortfall, (canadian dollars).

ah, good times in the cave with the lights turned low, manual open and disk in my hand.....

lol, just checked amazon and second front is going for $49.99 (new) $24.44 used. That game has been out 20 years and it only lost half its value.

There is your selling point for WitE, play it for 1000 hours and sell it for at least half of what you paid.

I wish the price issue was not so hush hush on Matrix games end. If I knew the price I could plan on buying WiTE or if its to much, I could buy something else from their catalog instead.

What does make me laugh about the Elefant was they made it so damned impregnable...but the tracks could easily be destroyed, rendering it COMPLETELY useless as it had no turret

I always found the idea of a tank without a turret a liability. I know the turret and body joint is an achilles heel in itself, but it could be argued that tracks could be hit and disable the vehicle much easier than hitting the join between the turret and the body.

IIRC I think most (if not all) models also came without a machine gun for taking out pesky russian AT infantry, but not 100% sure about that.

No - they were eventually fitted out with them - I can't remember the battle where that particular flaw was identified, but subsequent models were fitted with the machine gun - initially they had no MG

But again...without a turret you are vulnerable on 3 other approaches and only protected on one front - if your tracks are blown

It was at Kursk they saw the prob. They were then fitted with them in Italy.
