Wolfheze

Attacking with six teams is not to be advised... but just how weak are the defences.

Despite having the two entry VL's the Germans hold all the vantage points.. it's time to hide in the trees.

A team probing the defeces is taken care of

Time runs out

9am 20 Sept.

Arnhem Heights

The battle starts with the Germans moving quickly in the east.

Lucky full supply enables an arty strike to put a stop to it... wiping out all 3 teams.

With the Brits safely ensconced in the few buildings in  the southern part of the map the German infantry don't have the strength to advance,.

Brit teams lurking in the forest snatch two late VL's before time expires.

Velp

The stugs have move on as XXX corps arrives

The airbourne troops couldn't make any headway here earlier with the Stugs. controlling all the open fields.

But XXX corps armour motored about virtually unopposed by the depleted Knaust BG.

Arnhem Heights

German forces continue their push toward Arnhem Bridge.

This time they bring along halftracks to try and force the issue.

Luckily the Brits have full off board support - artillery takes care of one HT

And air support takes care of the other

This does the job...

And the German Bg disbands ... never to be seen again.

Valkenhuizen

There is a lot of open ground to cover

One lone armored car tried to interfere - destroying a Stuart.
But there was little else to hamper the advance of the armour and the Germans are disbanded , never to be seen again.

XXX corps securing the flanks...  Where the hell is VIII corps?

Atrocious deployment is gist for the mill for the XXX corps boys

Standard tactics of picking up VL's before committing to the assault.

Brings expected results with the very week German forces.

The Grenadier guards move on to Shaarsbergen

with speedy armour available the plan is to quickly seal off the pocket and then squeeze..

With all the uncontested VL's easily accounted for.... The armour goes for broke with a stab at the German VL....

German counter attack in the final 2 minuses fail to wrest control from the Brits...  and they are forced to disband.

midnight 20/21 September

Pannerden - SS resurgent

After an earlier debacle when crossing the river this time The best of British armour is seeking glory..

If all Vl's are to taken under control a lot of open ground needs to be crossed.

within seconds a Cromwell is left a burning hulk after a hit from a hidden gun.

A supporting Cromwell  tries to outflank the suspected position.

The still hidden gun scores again.

it wasn't supposed to go like this...

The Brits fall back in dissaray as a third Cromwell takes a hit from the unseen enemy...  i told you not to attack at night.

Very late in the Battle two Stug's are seen advancing cautiosly on the scrambling British.

Have to give marks/points to your opponent for continuing on as the outcome has looked very grim for a while....

But I guess getting shot attacking is better then getting shot retreating by your own side....

Renkum Heath

Ordered to clear a forming up area for a strike into the Reich everyone is on the attack

Two Bg's but no points to spend... it will be a very reserved attack - let's call it a probe.

A lot of long range shooting but not a lot of action..

Time runs out

Ginkel Heath - XXX corps continues to advance

The fast moving tankers keep intercepting fleeing German BG's

The Axis disband after the VL's are collected by the swift moving tanks...

A short sharp action in the trees was the only highlight.

Papendalsche

Allied armour has moved through and left the AB in holding positions.

If armour were available... but it is the ring of death for the Dutchmen.

Clearing the remnants ensconced in the woods was hampered by artillery support.

The savage assault by the paras causes the Dutchmen to withdraw and must spend 24 hours regrouping.

The Brits form up with their trademark ring of death

The German BG gets to spend 5 turns regrouping... which will seem like an eternity

Pannerden

With the Bg's in contact falling back in dissaray the 43 wessex make an assault crossing un-accompanied by armour...
But come all kitted out with support.

The Fanatical KG Euling wait with determined confidence

De jA Vu

No place to run no place to hide.

A nice bit of blood 'n bone should help the tress grow.

Three Stugs run amuck

The Brits fall back in dissaray

Heelsum

The advancing tanks meet a tentative German probe.

Plan is to hold positions until the VL's are picked up.

A rare insight into the fanatical German mind - The Heroic Fromm is assaulting with his tripod mounted Heavy MG.

As dawn breaks 6am 21 Sept.

After 3 days of constant movement  The Grenadier Guads are not quite as cohesive as they would have liked.

They enter the frey understrength and carrying quite a few walking wounded.

They've relieved the tired paratroopers who have left them in good position.

Slowly tightening the noose

Until there is no life left to carry the fight
