US tradition is more like the British (surprise, surprise)... the gaudy ring is the engagement ring, (usually) plain gold band for wedding ring...

I think German women to not trust us German men enough to select a "proper" gaudy ring by ourselves, so we get to select only the plain engagement ring...

We generally pick out the engagement ring with our intended... usually (but not always) you get the matching wedding ring at the same time.

To answer your question - usually both the men and women just switch to the wedding ring. This one is usually a little more gaudy (for the woman) than the engagement ring which is just a plain gold ring.

Same here.

Hi Martin! Good to see you around.

I tend to think here more men are sent out on a mission to impress their girlfriends by buying as much ring as they can afford for the engagement ring. Plenty of couples do shop together, but the "tradition" is that the man buys the engagement ring and "surprises" the woman with it. Then, they will both shop together for wedding bands (more plain rings).

Hi guys.

I think you won't see me a lot now : the new security at work think that this forum is a breach to the security of the site .

January will be very busy as usual at work, so i won't miss THE THREAD a lot, but still, this is annoying !!!

Hey Eric, how is Languedoc for a summer holiday?

Simon (and all others Threadster brothers that could be interested).
If you stay near Saint Cyprien and Perpignan, here are a few things that Claire and me liked :

1) if i remenber, there is a museum of planes south of perpignan ( very near of the town, maybe 10 km), but can't find back the name of the small town.

2) at Tautavel, there is the museum of Prehistorical man. Not bad at all.

3) If you like Colorado-like landscape, you could try to visit the Isles-sur-Têt (this is the village) Orgues. Count 1 or 2 hours of walk according to the path you choose. And a lot of water, it can be VERY hot there !

4) if you look for a Middle-Age restaurant, with middle-age recipies, middle age suit for the waiters, and else :
- "Rotisserie medievale de Villerouge Termenes". Is at village Villerouge Termenes, in one wing of the castle. This XIIIth century castle also host a museum about the last cathare.
Also the landscape in the area is really nice (to my taste)

5) If you like ruined castle, you can't miss Queribus Castle; and very close to it, Peyrepertuse Castle. Each one, you have to walk maybe 30 mn. At Peyrepertuse, in summer in the afternoon, there is a show of bird-prey (hawk, eagle....).

6) at 1H30 of driving from Perpignan, there is Carcassonne Medieval city. In the inner walls, there is a medieval show ( knight-like cavalry show + sword dual, and so on). There is the Count Castle in the middle of the old-city. And the whole middle-age city is a tourist-trap, but a good one. You can also visit the walls (near the main entrance).

Hope it could help.

Been a quiet afternoon with some M2TW action and good coffee.  Now, it's time to prepare for a trip to the hockey rink.  First of 3 games this weekend, with two tomorrow in a town about 90 minutes away.  Even had some pretty snow flurries to look at today.

This is nuts. There MIGHT be some snow in Memphis 24 hours from now. And the weather people have been talking about it for days already. And people are going to the store. I have gotten several emails from friends warning me.

Because there MIGHT be snow. Maybe 2 inches. We Southerners are very funny about this.

Of course maybe I can use it as an excuse to drink my Congac for two straight days.

Ah yes. My trip upstate. I woke up one morning with an English bulldog staring lovingly into my eyes. I still have no idea what happened.

Does that make the Fleahawks over .500 on the season now or do they still need to win 2 more to get there?
